Right Livelihood

Tibetan Dharma Wheel: a visual representation of the Buddha's primary teachings.
The center represents meditation, the eight spokes each of the tenets of the Path.

Wrong livelihood for retreatants, monastics, and serious meditators is dealt with in extensive detail (see DN 2). For lay followers it is much more basic and easily summarized as in the Vanijja Sutra (AN 5.177):

"A lay follower should not engage in five types of trade.

"What are those five?

"They are trade in weapons, trade in human beings, trade in flesh, trade in intoxicants, and trade in poisons."
