Women, Buddhism, and Mindfulness: UCLA

MARC (uclahealth.org); Ananda (Dharma Buddhist Meditation), Ashley Wells, Wisdom Quarterly

In the Buddhist tradition, teachings were passed down orally for several centuries the Buddha's passing into final nirvana.

When they were recorded, their tone and flavor were influenced by male monastics who infused his words with bias and systematically wrote women’s experiences and perspectives out of the narrative.

Reweaving women’s stories back into the Buddha's teachings offers a fuller, rounder understanding of meditation practices and instructions.

In this evening's conversation Pamela Weiss, author of A Bigger Sky: Awakening a Fierce Feminine Buddhism, and Director of Mindfulness Education at MARC Diana Winston, discuss how stories of Buddhist women and qualities of the feminine have affected them personally and transformed their understanding of mindfulness and Buddhist meditation practice.

Together they share a vision of a more inclusive, inspiring experience of practice and awakening (enlightenment) and its impact on the field of mindfulness. Sign up
