GRANITE BAY, Northern California (KCRA 3) — A carpet of purple and blue is blanketing the dry shorelines and meadows around Folsom Lake.

A superbloom of lupine wildflowers has sprouted up in areas normally inundated with freshwater.

"I've been here 30 years, and I think it's just that rare instance where there is not enough water in the lake, and there's not too much heat," photographer Dave Blakeney explained.

"So when you get that combination, you get the flowers." And where there are flowers, there will soon be shutterbugs, photographers who wake up early to capture the light.

Let's do a drive-by Cali-style to see the bloom!
With the popularity of the bloom, parking spots, even on a Wednesday morning, filled up fast. Park rangers are warning drivers not to park on the shoulder of the road.

Park only in designated spots as rangers are ticketing and threatening to tow vehicles that are illegally stationed. Park faraway and walk. More
