Ajahn Chah: We can see Dhamma and be free

Ajahn Chah (ajahnchah.org) via Ven. Sujato, Ellie Askew, Dhr. Seven (ed.), Wisdom Quarterly

Where does the Dhamma (Sanskrit Dharma, the Truth and the Buddha's Teaching) arise? It arises with our knowing and understanding.

Everyone is able to know and understand the Dhamma. It’s not something that has to be found in books. We don’t have to do a lot of study to see it. If we just reflect right now, we can see what I'm talking about.

Everyone can see it because it exists right within our hearts. Everybody has defilements, don’t they? If we are able to see them, we can understand.

In the past we’ve looked after and pampered our defilements, but now we must know our defilements and not allow them to come and bother us.
