SMILE as an exercise – Thich Nhat Hanh

Thich Nhat Hanh Quote Collective ॐ, 2/7/21; Ashley Wells, CC Liu (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

"Make smiling an exercise" – TNH
Why should I smile when there is no joy in me? The answer to that is, Smiling is a practice. There are over 300 muscles in the face. When we are angry or fearful, these muscles tense up. The tension creates a feeling of hardness. If we know how to breathe in and produce a smile, however, that tension will disappear. It is what Thay calls “mouth yoga.” Make smiling an exercise. Just breathe in and smile: The tension will disappear, and one will feel much better.

Who ghostwrites my lines? Do I? "Smiling is mouth yoga"? (To stink of Zen is a crime)
