Mexican wonders, pyramids, archeology

El Castillo, Chichen Itza, Mexico: During restoration work in the 1930s, archeologists dug into El Castillo's south side and came across the remains of an older pyramid hidden within. They followed the staircase upwards thinking they'd reach the older temple's peak, but instead came across a chamber in which they found a well-preserved chac mool (pictured), a Mayan sacrificial stone sculpture.
