World Bank to provide $50 mil to help Laos

HANOI (Bernama) -- The World Bank (WB) will provide Laos with US$46.5 million to help the country boost development in education, environment, and energy and mining sectors, China's Xinhua news agency reported, citing Lao newspaper the Vientiane Times Tuesday. Of the total, US$15.5 million will be used to increase primary school enrollments and completion of schooling in the 19 poorest districts in Laos. In addition, it will be used to improve its quality and capacity to develop policies to manage primary education and implement educational strategies, said the Times. Another US$20 million will fund a rural electrification project, aiming to enable 37,700 rural households in the country to have access to electricity. More>>
