Dalai Lama CANCELS

GSTDL to host the Dalai Lama on May 1, 2011

HH The Dalai Lama Update - April 30th, 9:30 pm: His Holiness physician has advised His Holiness to not to travel. He will remain in Tokyo until he feels better. Unfortunately, this means that tomorrow's [May 1, 2011] public talk is CANCELLED.

On Su nday, May 1, from 9:30 to 10:30, Khen Rinpoche, Geshe Jangchup Choeden, the Abbot of Gaden Shartse Monastery will continue his talk on the Three Principle Aspects of the Path.

On Sunday at 2:30 to 4:00 PM, we will present a talk by Thupten Jinpa, His Holiness' translator on Secular Ethics & Meditation and Robert Thurman, Je Tsongkhapa Professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies at Columbia University.

Other events, including the sponsor lunch, will occur as scheduled, without the presence of His Holiness.

We understand that many of you have spent a lot of time and traveled great distance to participate in these events, and we offer you our most sincere apologies.

It gives us great joy to announce that Gaden Shartse Thubten Dhargye Ling will be hosting His Holiness the Dalai Lama on May 1, 2011. Although His Holiness will be our guest for only one day, it will be an extraordinary day.

We are honored that His Holiness has decided to confer a Solitary Yamantaka Initiation on the morning of May 1, 2011. In the afternoon His Holiness will be delivering a public talk on ‘Secular Ethics and Meditation.’ These events will take place in the Terrace Theater at the Long Beach Convention Center, and will be available on this site via live stream.

During the four weekends in May following the Yamantaka initiation, Khen Rinpoche Jangchub Choeden, Abbot of Gaden Shartse Monastery will remain with us at GSTDL to give a commentary on the practice and the retreat.
