LOS ANGELES - Fugitive former [LAPD] policeman Christopher Dorner is believed to have broke[n] into a home, tied up a couple, and stole[n] their pickup truck in the San Bernardino mountains northeast of Los Angeles, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in an advisory.
Dorner, accused of targeting law enforcement officers [reportedly illegally using a drone in a civilian area prior to FAA approval] and their families in three [alleged] revenge-driven killings, was apparently fired on by a state fish and game ranger as he fled in the stolen vehicle, the sheriff's department said.
Local television news outlets aired the sounds of gunfire and shouting in a live broadcast from the Big Bear Lake ski resort area.

It's believed Christopher Dorner committed a residential burglary of a cabin where a couple was tied up, the officer told The Associated Press. One of the people was able to get away and make a call.
Authorities responded to the location and gave chase when the burglar fled in a stolen car. Gunfire was exchanged.

The area is in the Big Bear region [snowbound northeast Los Angeles County] where a search for Dorner has been under way since his [burning] pickup truck was found there Thursday.
A KCAL-TV reporter in the Angelus Oaks area along Highway 38 reported gunfire in his vicinity.
The noise of the gun battle was broadcast by the station, whose reporter suddenly found himself near the fight. Someone could be heard yelling at the reporter to get out of the area. Road blocks are up around Big Bear. More

Eager to maim, eager to kill civilians (DN)
Police are pretending to be sure that Dorner is "pinned down" in a cabin. But contrary to this certainty, they are searching every car coming out of the area with guns drawn while "locking down" the local schools to train children to obey agents in a police state under any provocation. Soon the children will be used to it -- an almost weekly occurrence in Los Angeles that few blink at now. Has he escaped right out from under them? Or have they brought forward such a show of force that the only thing being revealed is that "local police" have long been armed as a paramilitary force with secret agents aiding their expensive efforts. The media is on the scene but being denied access and not being told what these public agencies are involved in. Other reports state that Dorner may have stolen a police vehicle and escaped the area. This is confirmed by police vehicles going in the wrong direction -- not toward the gunfight but in the opposite direction. By 3:00 pm there is a total media blackout on actual information. A pre-scheduled press conference by police did little more than parrot mainstream media reports, illustrating the vital need for transparency and real-time information. Recall that all of this is happening because of endemic racism, discrimination, and violent abuses of civilians by the LAPD that Officer Dorner was blowing the whistle on and was fired for reporting.
