Thank you, Ambassador Jolie. This is one of the best animated movies Wisdom Quarterly editors have ever seen, certainly one of the best movies about the impact of the US's illegal invasion, occupation, and war crimes against Afghanistan, the Buddha's home country as revealed by historian Dr. Ranajit Pal.
The Breadwinner tells the story of Parvana, a 12-year-old girl growing up under the CIA/ISI's "Taliban" in Afghanistan (and instigated the destruction of the Buddhas of Bamiyan) in 2001. When her father is wrongfully arrested and imprisoned, Parvana disguises herself as a boy and takes the name "Fire" to be able support her family.
She is soon found out by another girl who has resorted to the same desperate measure. They become friends and make their way under US oppression after Afghanistan managed to expel Russian invaders.
GKIDS presents the newest masterpiece form the Academy Award-nominated creators of Song of the Sea and The Secret of Kells, ased on the worldwide bestseller Deborah Ellis. Parvana is a girl of 12 growing up under the sexist Taliban. Together with her cross dressing friend, Shauzia, she risks discovery to try to save her father from prison.

Original version (based on true story)
(Battul Zahidi) The Breadwinner is made from another movie called Osama (2003). It's the same movie. It's just that now it's an animated cartoon backed by UNHCR Special Envoy Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie. Watch the original, too, because it is a more affecting portrayal due to it having real actors rather than charming cartoon figures. Osama is about a girl in Afghanistan. It's called "Osama" because when the girl disguises her gender, she calls herself "Osama" just as Parvana (The Breadwinner) calls herself the Pashtun word for "Fire." Khaled Hosseini Mede created the original film based on a true story not unlike Yentl. ❤️
