(The Buddhist Society) Ajahn Brahm (Ven. Brahmavamso Mahathera) was born Peter Betts in London, England on August 7, 1951. He came from a working-class background then won a scholarship to study theoretical physics at Cambridge University in the late 1960s. After graduating he taught high school for a year before travelling to Theravada Buddhist Thailand to become a monk training under Ajahn Chah (Ven. Bodhinyana Mahathera). His enlightenment and sense of humor have made him famous around the world. He is now the abbot of the Buddhist Society of Western Australia.
