Protesters attack police convoy as tensions rise after Myanmar military coup
(On Demand News, Feb. 9, 2021) Police have clashed with demonstrators for a fourth consecutive day amid growing tensions following the Burmese military coup.
Supporters of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi charged a police convoy despite attempts by the military government to place a ban on demonstrations and impose a curfew in Rangoon (Yangon), Mandalay, and the new military capital, Naypyitaw.
Police response to the protests has escalated from use of water cannons [possibly tainted with chemical irritants] to firing deadly rubber bullets and "warning" shots with live ammunition.
Aung San Suu Kyi and various senior NLD (National League for Democracy) leaders were detained when a military coup led by new dictator General Min Aung Hlaing.
