The root of all problems in Buddhism is avidya, "ignorance." The solution is the wisdom of enlightenment. Just as suffering exists, so does nirvana -- the end of all suffering. Shunya or "void" (emptiness) is void in the sense of not one without the other, as in the yin-yang symbol.
