(Timeline - World History Documentaries, 7/6/19) Inside Afghanistan with Timeline | Afghanistan is not so much a country as a series of shifting borders.
It is a place with no easily definable physical or civil boundaries. It is a place where war is an everyday fact of life. Afghanistan is a place where more children will learn to make a gun go RRR RRR than will go to school to learn The Three R's (readin', 'riting, and 'rithmetic). At least 1.5 million have been killed during the past 20 years of war, mainly by the CIA, ISI, and the USA. Perhaps another 4 million have fled. Every major road has been torn apart by tank treads. Almost every major building left standing has been blown full of holes.
Afghanistan was once a peace-loving Buddhist homeland, now the most militant Islamic state on Earth. It is where the Buddha was raised as a Scythian/Shakyian/Saka (ranajitpal.com). It was once part of ancient Gandhara (Bactria). In the Bamiyan Valley north of the central capital of Kabul (Kapilavastu?) the two largest statues of the Buddha on the planet were carved in the third century. David Adams was the last Westerner to exhaustively film them before they were blown up in 2001.
