The U.N. Special Rapporteur to the Occupied Palestinian Territory Francesca Albanese declared this week that Israel does not, under international law, have a right to claim "self-defense" in its attacks against Hamas (and the Al-Qassam Brigades).

In fact, under international law, Israel is committing "war crimes."

Albanese's declarations came Tuesday (11/15/23) during an address to the National Press Club of Australia, when she deemed Israel's excuse that it was acting in "self-defense" non-existent under international law.

She took aim at the belligerent state for its "unrelenting bombardment of Gaza" [and Palestinian civilians that Israel says are "human shields" and therefore legal "collateral damage" when, in fact, they are non-state actors, an occupied population, and the legal responsibility of the occupying state actor, Israel] and other illegal actions.

Israel, according to Albanese, cannot claim a "right to self-defense" because it is not under threat from another state.

"Israel cannot claim the right of self-defense against a threat that emanates from a territory it occupies, from a territory that is under [Israel's] belligerent occupation," Special Rapporteur Albanese said from the event in Canberra, Australia.
