At the 88th Academy Awards, host Chris Rock gives a funny and blistering monologue aimed at the #OscarsSoWhite controversy to nervous and riotous laughter from the celebrity crowd.

Will "Spotlight" win big exposing systematic Catholic child molestation or Leo's night?

I'm based on a Latino guy.
Our friend Oscar is going to the Academy Awards ceremony today in Hollywood. Little does he know that a Latino served as the model for the statue, or that only one Latino keeps Oscar from being completely white (washed).

But we all have to pay attention. In days of old the devas (ancient Vedic and Greek "gods") got all of our attention, then it was their progeny, the royal bloodlines.

Now it's all about spectacle and the "stars" (astrotheology). Devas are the stars, beautiful celestial bodies, and the stars of today are divas. So we keep paying attention.

I wonder what Kanye West is doing? Will the Donald be watching? Where are the Kardashians? Now that Joan Rivers has been killed for outing Michael "Michelle" Obama as a man, who will be asking the tough questions on the red carpet, her daughter?

Maybe somebody will wear a dress from a famous designer. Maybe Hollywood elites will do coke after the show and get drunk in big Hollywood Hills mansions. Maybe "Spotlight" will get the attention it deserves after winning those other awards. We'll tune in and see.

What would a Buddhist Oscars be like? Well dressed people nervous about good recognition for saving the world and striving in private toward calm and insight, silence and serenity. It would never sell. We want explosions! On and off the carpet. We want reality show meltdowns. We want crazy, and Hollywood is sure to deliver. We'd better head to our Hollywood hangout with Dharma Punx on Melrose, Against the Stream: Buddhist Meditation Center.

A growing number of actors and filmmakers are pushing for a boycott of the Oscars after no actors of color were nominated for a second year in a row. The largely white male Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences responded by pledging to overhaul its voting requirements and to double membership of women and people of color by 2020.

The boycott calls are discussed with two African-American filmmakers -- Stanley Nelson, whose latest film is "The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution" and Dawn Porter, director of "Trapped," which just had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. "This reminds me of when baseball was segregated -- the Negro Leagues," Porter says. "Does anyone really think that all of the talent that was in the sport was being recognized?" More
