County Sheriff Lee Baca, once one of the most powerful law enforcement officials in the nation, will go on trial for lying to the FBI in a career full of abuses and lies. The single lie he is being charged for in a federal corruption investigation concerns his role in attempting to block the FBI from looking into sheriff deputies' abuse of detainees within L.A. County jails. The maximum sentence he faces for a single offense is five years in federal prison -- after the judge surprisingly rejected his sweetheart plea deal.
