ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST, California - Tataviam (Kitanemuk, "People of the South Slope") Senior Program Staffmember Rudy Ortega Jr. presides over reconstruction work at the Haramokngna Cultural Center, Los Angeles, and volunteers have began the reconstruction phase of an extensive plan envisioned since the center opened in 1997.
 
Haramokngna, Los Angeles County’s only Native American-owned and operated cultural center, serves as a learning facility to the local community offering a many services from seasonal camps, cultural workshops, conferences, and events.

The visitor’s center features information on regional tribal history and displays items such as basketry, instruments, and rock art, with a convenience store to boot.
 
For over 15 years Haramokngna has remained Los Angeles’ hidden gem, located 14 miles up the Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2), a few miles past Switzer Falls. It maintains its purpose after its namesake -- "the place where people gather." More
