10% Happier (Dan Harris)
ABC's Dan Harris is the author of 10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge, and Found Self-help That Actually Works: A True Story. In meditation he once wondered about a fleeting question. It crossed his mind, as millions of questions do. It was a good one, but pondering makes for terrible meditating. So first let's get that question out of the way:

Where do gerbils run wild?
Gerbils are small, omnivorous mammals, rodents adapted to arid habitats. Once known as "desert rats," the gerbil subfamily includes about 110 species in Africa, India, Mongolia, and Asia -- where they run wild.

Safer at Home: Snuggle and sleep like a gerbil
Dan Harris (ABC News' Good Morning America, Nightline) practices Buddhist meditation in a science-based mostly non-secular way. He's a student of Joseph Goldstein, co-founder of the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts. He is the host of the Ten Percent Happier PODCAST, named after his very successful book on mindfulness meditation after suffering a panic attack on air and chronic anxiety from the way he was living. Terry Gross had him on Fresh Air today talking about meditation, neuroscience, Buddhism, and better living.

Anxious? Meditation can help you "relax into the uncertainty" of the pandemic
(Fresh Air) ABC News Correspondent Dan Harris was broadcasting live in 2004 when he experienced a panic attack [thanks in part to his fast living and abuse of cocaine as a high powered newsman on the go]. "My lungs seized up, my palms started sweating, my mouth dried up. I just couldn't speak," he says. He credits meditation with helping him work through his anxiety -- then and now. He has a twice weekly PODCAST. And he does a DAILY MEDITATION everyone can join. More
