Meditation in a hurry?
Mettā
means loving-kindness, friendliness, amity, benevolence, good will, and active interest in others' well-being. It is the first of the Four Divine Abodes (Brahma Viharas) and one of the Ten Perfections (dasa pāramīs) of Theravāda Buddhism. The cultivation of loving kindness (mettā bhāvanā) is a popular form of Buddhist meditation. It is a part of the Four Immeasurable States in Brahma Vihara ("Divine Abidings") meditation. Metta as altruistic meditation (similar to karuna or "compassion" meditation) is often practiced in Asia by broadcast chanting, wherein monastics chant for the laypeople.
