The Buddha was born in Afghanistan (the real Kapilavastu being seasonal capitals in Bamiyan, Kabul, and Mes Aynak), which was at that time known as Shakya Land, thefoothold (janapada) of the Shakya Clan, called Scythia by the Ancient Greeks.
