This shocking case of excessive force comes on the anniversary of the deadly Los Angeles riots of 1992, which were set off by the exact same kind of police abuse, internalized racism, "street justice," impunity, and overpolicing of minority communities.

The officer did this on April 27, 2020 in the 2400 block of Houston Street, near Soto Street, according to the police department.
Video recorded by a bystander from across the street shows two LAPD officers, one male and one female, detaining a man on a sidewalk by a church.
An initial verbal exchange between the male officer and the victim is unclear, but the officer begins violently beating and striking the civilian at least nine times in the head from behind, for no apparent reason, while screaming expletives at him in front of the female officer as if to show her how masculine and dominant he is.
The beating victim crouches down as he asks the officer, “What is wrong with you?” possibly in answer to the officer first aggressively asking the same thing. The officer's attack lasts about 20 seconds, video shows.
The female officer at first stands passively behind and illegally allows the beating, which appears to be a felony in itself but enhanced by the fact that it is done under color of uniform, then apparently places her hand on her partner’s arm before he would throw another punch.
[Police are actively investigating to see if there is any way to possibly absolve the offending officer or otherwise make this all go away without a criminal case or civil lawsuit for the city. And the DA is helping them in this endeavor, as the LAPD investigates itself, promising not to be biased.] More
