Part 1 (Jan. 27): Platica y Prueba (Talk and Taste Test): Indigenous Veganism Series, Part 1: Remembering Mesoamerican Foodways, Food Principles, and Seasonal Diets. This talk (platica) provides a brief historical account of Mesoamerican Foodways. These are the dietary changes resulting from colonial encounters and the erasure and appropriation of those Indigenous foodways.
The class provides a decolonial and Indigenous ecofeminist critique toward remembering the value and importance of eating a local, ecological, sustainable, organic, native-based diet.
Part 2 (Feb. 3): Indigenous Veganism Series, Part 2: Indigenizing Vegan with Mesoamerican Foods. This cooking class provides quick, simple, effective ways to integrate Indigenous plant-based foods into the making of nutrient-dense comiditas (foods) that retain their cultural heritage for anyone on the go.
