Healing with Medicinal Plants
“Healing with Native Plants" with Dr. James Adams is part of the ethnobotany certification program.

This field session focuses on local medicinal plants with author and local expert Dr. Adams, author of Healing with Medicinal Plants of the West.

Dr. Adams shares his two decades of training with Chumash tribal healing herbs. He will demonstrate how certain pain-relieving liniments are made.

See and handle specific herbs used in Chumash healing and learn how they are prepared for use. Some of those to be discussed are:
  • elderberry,
  • white sage,
  • black sage,
  • California sagebrush,
  • California bay laurel,
  • mugwort and more.
Learn specific recipes for making foot soaks, external liniments, and healthful drinks.

Participants are asked to bring a container of 70% isopropyl alcohol, a pint-sized glass jar, and an avocado seed. (There should be extra avocado seeds on hand just in case).

The group will discuss the ideal literature regarding healing with herbs and herbs that can be grown in one's own backyard.
