WILD FOOD COOKING — edible wild plants of Southern California, Los Angeles Foothills. Saturday, August 12, 2023: 10:00 am-2:00 pm.
Learn about the edible wild plants of Southern California Saturday, Aug. 12th at 10:00. We’ll explore the local wilderness area above Pasadena and create an all-organic meal provided by nature.

We’ll give thanks before partaking in the manner of the stewards of the land, the local Tongva tribe, after preparing it ourselves on the spot. It will include soup, a salad, a vegetable dish, another dish, pancakes, and a drink -- from plants we collect today and from plants previously collected.

.
Learn how to survive anywhere
This nature walk will be leisurely and informative — collecting edible items along the way, learning to identify food plants, as well as identifying non-food plants we encounter.

Foraging has become popular — so learn how to ethically forage and properly identify wild plant species. It’s a great survival skill to possess! Who knows what may happen and when? One never knows exactly what we’ll find available, but we are certain to encounter
  • wild greens for soup and salad,
  • wild buckwheat for pancakes,
  • medicinal herbs for tea,
  • cactus for a sauté dish, and
  • possibly some wild fruits for dessert.
But no one knows until we set off on our adventure of discovery, walking trails Native Americans have sourced for centuries before "Los Angeles" replaced Native Tovaangar.
THIS WORKSHOP COUNTS TOWARDS THE School of Self-Reliance’s ETHNOBOTANY CERTIFICATE. Location sent upon registration or call. (PRICE: senior/student $45, regular $65). Schoolofself-reliance.com/contact Call Christopher: (626) 791-3217.
