US Moon Lander fails as Japan succeeds
Team Comedy (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly; Noor Al-Sibai (Futurism); Dick Speed (The Register)
Once upon a time a group of American scientists went to an international tech conference in Tokyo, bragging about how great capitalism is for scientific advances.
But then they saw what the Japanese had built with government support to land on the moon and rove around. They were abashed, so they bragged about future plans for their next project after conquering the Moon.
The private capitalist company Intuitive Machines -- backed by NASA technology, boosted by Elon Musk's private SpaceX Corporation launcher -- has failed miserably in its propaganda campaign of pretending to land on the moon a second time 52 years after putting the USSR to shame with fake footage of a first landing. What can we do? I know! Let's throw more money at the problem. That fixes everything. Who cares that everyone is trying to claim the lunar surface or that the Earth's satellite is hollow, watery, and full of enslaved beings! We're cleared to take the surface, if we can get to it. And Eric Dubay says we can't, even if it's actually very close and smaller than we've been told.

"What's that?" the Japanese scientists asked the Americans, curious about getting to the next celestial body. "Mars, Venus?"
"The Sun!" the Americans boasted.
The Japanese were dumbfounded at America's great boldness.
"But how," one Japanese engineer inquired, "will you overcome the heat?"
The American team scoffed, "Ha, that's easy! We'll be landing at night."
The Japanese team giggled behind the American team's back, "We'll concentrate on the Moon."
"Whatever," the U.S. team dismissed the other science teams, "we've already conquered the Moon! We can do it again easy. We have Elon Musk!"
"Oh thoughtless mortals! ever blind to fate,
Too soon dejected, and too soon elate!
Sudden, these honours shall be snatch'd away,
And curs'd for ever this victorious day.
For lo! the board with cups and spoons is crown'd,
The [walkies] crackle, and the mill turns round.
On shining altars of JAPAN they raise
The silver lamp; the [SLIM lander doth] blaze."
-Alexander Pope, "The Rape of the Lock"
| Look, you can even see the curvature of our moon |
- LANDER BLUES: NASA's new Moon lander may have touched down in one piece, but the story keeps getting more embarrassing and underwhelming for the space agency. Intuitive Machines, the company that built the Odysseus lander, said in a series of updates posted on its website and on X (Twitter) that although the craft is online and beaming images back to Earth, its operators believe it won't be able to keep up communications for much longer [as the battery dies and fails to get charged by solar panels].
- Machine breaks through digging HS2’s longest tunnel
- American Odysseus probe moonwalking on the edge of battery life after [tipping over] (Dick Speed, The Register, 2/27/24) Controllers estimate 10-20 hours remain for Intuitive Machines lander. Intuitive Machines' Odysseus Lunar Lander is facing another countdown. This time the question is how much longer it can continue to operate until it exhausts what remains of the battery life.… On Monday, flight controllers reckoned they had until Tuesday morning before communication with the lander [died and] ceased [until Japan's SLIM can come by and give it a nudge, lift, or something]. At the time of writing, controllers hoped there might be as much as 10-20 hours of battery life remaining. While the landing has been called a success, surviving a few days on the lunar surface is far from the original plan of seven days or more before the lunar night arrived and Odysseus ceased operations. The question now is exactly how much work the stricken lander can actually do on the Moon, considering it is on its side -- or "on the wonk," as one space agency insider memorably told us to put it more nicely -- with its battery life fast depleting. According to Intuitive Machines, the lander has "efficiently sent payload science data and imagery in furtherance of the Company's mission objectives." More

Christopher Columbus: Misunderstood Jew or Genocidal Maniac? (10/8)
Christopher Nyerges (School of Self-Reliance) WTI; Eds., Wisdom Quarterly
It's time to learn the truth about Cristobal Columbus, a Portuguese-Italian Converso Jew expelled from his country and motivated by debt to go to Asia by a new passage.
Would he be able to find it? Would he rape and enslave those standing in his way? Would he burn his own crew? Would he be able to get his investors to live up to the contract he squeezed out of them? Find.
Columbus landed in India (actually the Carribean) where he met "Indians," whom he found docile and naive, welcoming and cordial, exchanging trinket gifts with them until he laid down the boom: rape, rampant disease, chattel slavery, forced labor, kidnapping specimen to send them back to Europe like creatures destined for a zoo and indefinite servitude.
Columbus didn't "discover" anything. His fame arose because he went BACK to Europe. Other white men had arrived but stayed and blended in. Columbus had more greed than that. He was here to take it all for the Catholic Church and the highest bidder.
But maybe he wasn't all bad. Sure, he shortchanged his men -- not paying them what he promised -- until they were more indebted and more willing to do anything (think crimes against humanity) for their freedom.
Did he really convert to Catholicism, or was it a cynical bid to be a Crypto-Jew, working for the crown to bring Spain riches and encouraging other Europeans to go, exploit, rape, pillage, conquer, commit genocide, kill off, colonize, and convert the locals to the "right" religion?
Author Christopher Nyerges (an American of Eastern European extraction, born and raised in Los Angeles) presents a report of his findings on the real Columbus. Not Everything can be laid at the feat of this "monster." He may have opened the door and gotten the ball rolling, but the Conquistadores did most of the damage and killing. Conclusion: What day to celebrate, CCD (along with Catholic CCD) or Indigenous People's Day? Both? Neither?
Sunday, October 8, 2023, join in a 9:45 am presentation by author Christopher Nyerges under the banyan tree in the yard at 5835 Burwood Ave., Highland Park. This week's topic is "Columbus," part of a larger week that includes Indigenous Peoples' Day at the non-profit. Donations accepted. No one is turned away. Questions? Call Prudence (323) 620-4720.
The presentation was also on Zoom, though the speaker did not mention that would be the case ahead of time and went for two hours of gory details and many different sources. There is no way to defend Columbus for what he did (and he did it more than once).

| Why did US lie to us about this mass murderer? |
CONCLUSION: The US should abolish any honor or worship of this madman Columbus. Columbus Day had a good motive, to make Italian-Americans feel good about themselves and their contributions to this great land. Columbus wasn't even actually Italian! He referred to himself as Portuguese. He may have visited Italy or learned something there or played acted being a modern Roman for Rome and the Holy Roman Empire of the Catholic Church. But we do not see the Portuguese or Brazilian American community getting up in arms for their mascot and maniac as he is deposed, dethroned, and tossed onto the heap of failed humanity, the star hypocrite, claiming to be motivated by God and religion and saving the savage heathens.

US Latin population growth slips behind Asians
Russell Contreras (twitter.com/russcontreras/BigStory.ap.org/The Associated Press (via mail.com); Crystal Quintero, Ashley Wells, CC Liu (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico - The
growth of the U.S. Latino (Latina, Latinx) population -- once the nation's fastest growing -- slowed considerably over the past seven years and slipped behind that
of Asian Americans amid declining "Hispanic" immigration and birth rates,
a study released [September 8th, 2016] found.![]() |
| Update: I hate social media. |
The Pew Research Center study, which analyzed U.S.
Census Bureau data, found that the U.S. Hispanic population grew
annually on average by 2.8 percent between 2007 and 2014. That's down
from the 4.4 percent annual growth from 2000 to 2007, before the Great
Recession [which was a new Depression].
By comparison, the Asian American population grew
around 3.4 percent on average annually during the same period. William
H. Frey, a demographer with the Brookings Institution's Metropolitan
Policy Program, the slower growth is largely a factor of the economy. A
slower economy is influencing families to hold off on having more
children, and it's discouraging migration amid stronger border
enforcement, he said.
Kenneth M. Johnson, a senior demographer at the
University of New Hampshire's Carsey School of Public Policy, said U.S.
Hispanic women between the ages of 20 to 24 have seen a 36 percent
decline in birth rates.
"That's by far the largest decline of any other
group," Johnson said. Despite slowing population growth, Latinos still
accounted for 54 percent of the nation's population growth between 2000
and 2014, according to the nonpartisan Pew Research Center.

.
Regional growth patterns also have changed some
following the economic downturn of 2007 reflecting the changing
economies of states, the study found. Counties in the South continued to
account for the largest share of the nation's Hispanic population
growth -- 43 percent between 2007 and 2014.
Among the other
fastest-growing counties for Latinos were Luzerne County in
Pennsylvania, Beadle County in South Dakota, Duchesne County in Utah, and
Burleigh County in North Dakota.
"Latinos are coming to Utah because the government
here is doing a lot to create jobs," said Rogelio Franco of Entre
Latinos, a Salt Lake City, Utah advocacy group that works to integrate
Hispanics into the state. Entre Latinos was not affiliated with the
study.
Franco said he thinks the declining birth rate is a
result of Latino millennials holding off on having children while
pursuing their education. "They are planning more," Franco said. "They
are focusing on other things."

| I'm white, you're Latina, and we're best friends. Should we go to Hawaii again? - No. |
The growth in North Dakota's statewide Latino
population nearly doubled to 18,000, making it the state with the
highest Hispanic growth rate over seven years. Though small in numbers
compared to states like California and Texas, the rise in Latino
residents has put pressures on local governments and nonprofits to
accommodate the new residents.
For example, in 2014 Catholic nuns from Mexico were
sent to North Dakota to help serve new Hispanic parishioners in that
state. North Dakota had experienced an oil boom until recently,
attracting workers from around the country. It remains one of the least
diverse states in the country.

"Latino population growth has become less
concentrated in counties with historically large Latino populations and
whose Latino population grew by at least 10,000," the study's authors
wrote. Though the growth has slowed in the last seven years, the Latino
population in the South has exploded when examined over 14 years.
![]() |
| We're not a model. |
From 2000 to 2014, Latino populations in Tennessee
and South Carolina, for example, nearly tripled. North Carolina also saw
its population spike 136 percent since 2000, the report said. Mauricio
Castro, an organizer with the North Carolina Congress of Latino
Organizations, said Latino immigrants coming to the region tend to work
in the construction or service industry.
Still, between 2007 and 2014, nearly 40 counties
experienced declines in the percentage of Latinos. Most of those
counties were in Colorado, New Mexico and Texas -- states with
traditionally large Hispanic populations.
Frey said once the U.S. economy starts picking up,
he expects to see a return of higher rates of immigration and increase
births. "This is not the end of Latino growth in the United States by
any means," Frey said. Source
