Kamala rejects Nikki’s claims on US racism

Graeme Massie, The Independent, 1/17/24; Pfc. Sandoval, Ash Wells (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Kamala Harris responds to Nikki Haley claiming US has ‘never’ been racist country
I gotta choose between these two dummies?
Kamala Harris has rejected Nikki Haley’s claim on Fox News that the United States has “never” been a racist country.

The vice president criticized fellow Indian American Republican 2024 hopeful a day after Ms. Haley rejected the suggestion she finished third in the Iowa caucuses behind two white men because of the color of her skin.

"I am not a crook." I get to be VP, not Nikki!
Ms. Haley, Don Trump’s former ambassador to the UN, made her self-serving comments during a Tuesday appearance on Fox News in response to comments by MSNBC host Joy Reid.

“We’re not a racist country…We’ve never been a racist country,” she said.

I won the Iowa primary, not Indian "Nimrada" Haley! Who does she think she is, Ms. Obama?
Republican rivals shove each other to kiss up to Trump to get VP nod. Vivek kisses hardest.
.
I agree w/Haley, and Floyd was high.
“Our goal is to make sure that today is better than yesterday. Are we perfect? No. But our goal is to always make sure we try and be more perfect every day that we can.”

[People rolled their shut eyes quietly as she] continued: “I know I faced racism when I was growing up [but we've never been a racist country because that was just me, and it didn't happen to anyone else but me]. But I can tell you, today is a lot better than it was then [when we were a more racist country than we are now].

Republicans stand for victorious white life.
“Our goal is to lift up everybody, not go and divide people on race or gender or party [as they belong to the right one] or anything else. We’ve had enough of that in America [that was never a racist country].”

VP Kamala Harris slammed that position when she was asked about it during a Wednesday appearance on The View.

“The issue of race in America is not something that should be the subject of a soundbite.

Racism in LA is so bad, even Latin politicians...
“The history of racism in America is not something that should be the subject of a soundbite or a question that is meant to illicit a one-sentence answer,” the Democrat from California said [about Ms. Haley's asinine and clunky claim].

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: In the future, Republican candidate Nimrod Haley will be right; we were never a racist country. It was all a BIG misunderstanding, not white supremacy but just colored discrepancy. *Irony*

Donny Trump grabs Billy Clinton's Billy club on Pedophile Island, hosted by Jeffrey Epstein

First Monica Lewinsky, now this, Bill! - I know.
The View
host FLIP-FLOPS on the plandemic vaxx – but doesn’t realize it! Big Pharma was nervous for a moment, but it owns the corporate media due to its massive advertising budget. The corporate mainstream media can say a bad thing about them without severe monetary consequences, so Big Pharma owns the media in the U.S. and can censor it at will so no revelations come out about it that would affect the bottom line.

So what if we were swingers? We were adults
Former Pres. Bill Clinton, husband of well-known lesbian (or bisexual) Hillary Clinton, is mentioned 50 TIMES in Epstein documents released by court after Virginia Giuffre's court case came out in her favor!

Now we finally have “proof Google is STEALING [American] elections!” says Harvard's Dr. Robert Epstein, who has the data to PROVE it.

Second Coming of the Peacemaker Tulsi

Tim Black Show (TBTV, 2/19) reviews Tulsi Gabbard (tulsi2020.com), Meghan McCain (The View); Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy); Ashley Wells, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
Peter fights back after being sexually assaulted by his doctor. This leads to the second coming of Jesus, who is shorter than expected. We don't know what a "savior" will look like ahead of time. Maybe it looks like Hawaiian peacemaker Tulsi Gabbard. She is loved but not set to be allowed into the third debate -- unless people donate $1 to put her over the top on the number of donors the party demands to be considered a serious candidate.

Tulsi Gabbard demolishes The View co-host Meghan McCain
(TBTV) Once again Tulsi Gabbard was smeared by war-friendly agents. This time it was The View's warmonger Meghan McCain. Tulsi Gabbard sets straight her positions on a series of issues.

If Buddhism taught Biology

§ 3. The root inheritance, the starting capital for self-training
I didn't ask to be reborn. It was my karma.
...This suggests that namo must be significant.

"If we take it up for consideration, we find that na stands for the water element, and mo for the earth element—and with this, a line from the Buddhist texts comes to mind:

Mātā-petika-sambhavo odāna-kummāsa-paccayo:

Biology
The caul or embryonic sac we're born in
"When the generative elements of the mother and father are combined, the body comes into being. When it is born from the mother’s womb, it is nourished with rice and meal and so is able to develop and grow."

Na is the mother’s element; mo, the father’s element. When these two elements are combined, the mother’s fire element then warms the combination until it becomes what is called a kalala, a droplet of oil.

This is the point where the connecting consciousness (paį¹isandhi-viññāṇa) can make its connection so that the mind becomes joined to the namo element. Once the mind has taken up residence, the droplet of oil develops until it is an ambuja, a glob of blood.

"From a glob of blood it becomes a ghana, a rod, and then a pesī, a lump of flesh. Then it expands itself into a lizard-like shape, with five extensions: two arms, two legs, and a head.

"(As for the elements ba, breath, and dha, fire, these take up residence later, because they are not what the mind holds onto. If the mind lets the droplet of oil drop, the droplet of oil vanishes or is discarded as useless.

"It has no breath or fire, just as when a person dies and the breath and fire vanishes from the body. This is why we say they are secondary elements. The important factors are the two original elements, namo).

I am completely dependent on others.
"After the child is born, it has to depend on na, its mother, and mo, its father, to care for it, nurturing it and nourishing it with such foods as rice and meal, at the same time teaching and training it in every form of goodness.

"The mother and father are thus called the child’s first and foremost teachers. The love and benevolence the mother and father feel for their children cannot be measured or calculated. The legacy they give us—this body—is our primal inheritance.

"External wealth, silver or gold, comes from this body. If we didn’t have this body, we wouldn’t be able to do anything, which means that we wouldn’t have anything at all.

"For this reason, our body is the root of our entire inheritance from our mother and father, which is why we say that the good they have done us cannot be measured or calculated [and is impossible to repay except by establishing them in the liberating Dharma]. Wise people thus never neglect or forget them.

"We first have to take up this body, this namo, and only then do we perform the act of bending it down in homage. To translate namo as homage is to translate only the act, not the source of the act." More

A Heart Released: The Teachings of Phra Ajaan Mun, translated by Ven. Ṭhānissaro. (ePublished Jan. 1, 2016). Much has been written about the life of Ajahn Mun (1870-1949), the founder of the Thai Forest Tradition, but very little was recorded of his teachings during his lifetime. (Most of his teachings he left in the form of people: the students whose lives were profoundly shaped by the experience of living and practicing meditation under his guidance). Translated here, A Heart Released (Muttodaya), is a record of passages from his sermons made during the years 1944-1945 by two monks who were staying under his guidance.

Enlightenment Mystery: Relics (video)

Ashley Wells, CC Liu, Dhr. Seven, Amber Larson, Wisdom Quarterly with Dr. Rei Rei, Ven. Chandananda (labuddhistvihara.org), Roshi Albrizze (pasadharma.org); MahaStupa.org
These exquisite crystalline formations are relics of various body parts (mahastupa.org)

Ancient stupa (reliquary), Thailand (Andyzart)
We filed in early in the afternoon, returning from a Dharma meeting at the doctor's house where we were looking at the Dalai Lama's book Beyond Religion. Whoever is ghostwriting is doing a great job, or Tibet's spiritual leader is making great progress in his English. Who needs religious labels? All we need are... ethics? We're still on the part where India is being exalted for its religious diversity and tolerance.

Relics (shariras) resemble pearls and glass beads with new growths (mahastupa.org)

Multiplying cluster of relics (photo gallery)
Last Sunday was the August full-moon observance day (uposatha). All of the white-clad Sinhalese devotees observing the Eight Precepts at the Los Angeles Buddhist Vihara filed in behind us. The Sri Lankan Theravada abbot, Ven. Dhammarama Mahathera, was at their head. And the abbot of Lu Mountain Monastery, author and sacred relic custodian Ven. Master YongHua (author of The Chan Handbook: The Learner's Guide to Meditation), was overjoyed to explain the evidence.

Fragrant tooth relic (BLI)
When the fragrant (and still growing) sacred tooth relic was placed under the nose of American Zen teacher Jeff Albrizze, he fell into a reverie re-experiencing past lives, seeing himself back as a monk stirring a great pot. It seemed to be the heat, but he later explained he was powerfully shaken. Dr. Rei, with psychic abilities, felt a purifying presence and joyful light beings. The rest of us were convinced by the Abbot Master YongHua's impromptu presentation. Wrongly harboring doubt and vening pessimistic views that lead others to wrongly doubt is serious demerit (unwholesome karma) with the potential of leading one to worlds of misery.

Crystal tray of colorful shariras
A healthy skepticism leads one to investigate rather than doubt. The abbot went on to say how fortunate we all were: With the relics at hand, they will be videotaped multiplying to help us overcome our skeptical doubt, one of the most serious and harmful hindrances on the path to enlightenment.

New views from Mars (photos)

This is a full-circle scene combining 817 images taken by the panoramic camera (Pancam) on NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity.

The US space agency NASA is calling it the "next best thing to being" on the Red Planet (AFP).

Color adjusted and distorted in the same way, this undated image provided by NASA shows Mars Rover Opportunity catching its own late-afternoon shadow in a view eastward across Endeavour Crater on Mars.

The rover used a panoramic camera between about 4:30 and 5:00 pm local Mars time to record images taken through different filters and combined into this mosaic view. Most of the component images were recorded during the 2,888th Martian day, or sol, of Opportunity's work on Mars, which corresponds to March 9, 2012 on Earth.

The view is presented in false color to make some differences between materials easier to see [and obscure its stunning similarity to the Earth's surface], such as the dark sandy ripples and dunes on the crater's distant floor. Opportunity has been studying the western rim of Endeavour Crater since arriving there in August 2011 (AP/NASA/JPL-Caltech/Cornell/Arizona State University).

Buddhism is "Nontheistic" not Atheistic

WQ edit of Wikipedia entry ("nontheism")
God and gods do not figure prominently in the Dharma. Whether they exist or not, the Dharma remains the same: The problem (dukkha) remains the same. The cause of the problem remains the same. The solution remains the same (nirvana). The path to nirvana remains the same. In that sense, Buddhism is nontheistic. It is entirely incorrect to say that it is atheistic or agnostic.

Although Buddhism has a vast number of scriptures and practices, the fundamental core teachings of Buddhism -- the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path -- are distinguished in the world of religion for not having any mention of God(s) or any notion of worship of any deity. These truths are not dependent on the existence or will of a higher being.

They are purely ethical and meditative guidelines based on the truths of impersonality, unsatisfactoriness, and impermanence. These are the Three Marks of Existence. Since the time of the Buddha, the refutation of the existence of a "Creator God" has been seen as a key point in distinguishing Buddhist from non-Buddhist views (Ref). There is, nevertheless, a great deal of talk about MahaBrahma (a great superior being who may boast or adopt the false view that IT -- not he or she since such beings, and there are more than one, have transcended sexual dimorphism -- is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, the alpha and the omega, and so on).

The Buddha said that many subtle beings-of-light, "godlings" or "gods" (devas), exist. But he portrayed them as mortal and deluded much like other beings. He did not center the Dharma (Teachings) around deities of any kind, but instead around the elimination of dukkha (a multivalent term encompassing ill, unsatisfactoriness, woe, or suffering) and the attaining of freedom from all suffering (nirvana).

Although the Buddha affirmed a positive belief in the existence of deities (devata), he encouraged people to be virtuous and thus attain the status of devas rather than encouraging the worship of them, a common practice in India to this day. They should be recalled (deva-anussati), brought to mind, their virtues (kusala-karma) emulated, and rebirths comparable to them gained. Some devas are earthbound nature beings, others live as extraterrestrials, and yet others are exalted and reside in high celestial worlds. Most are themselves, however, not liberated. Like other unenlightened beings, they are reborn again and again in the cycle of Samsara. A few, however, are enlightened to some degree, such as Sakka and devas residing in the Pure Abodes (suddhavasa).

The question of an actual "Creator God," however, was answered by Buddha in the Brahmajala Sutta. The Buddha dismissed the view that there is such a being responsible for everything that happens. Such notions are related to the false view (miccha-ditthi) of eternalism and run counter to freewill and choice. Like the 61 other views mentioned in the discourse, belief in such a being causes suffering when one is attached to it and relates to it with desire, aversion, and/or delusion. At the end of the discourse the Buddha states that he is familiar with these 62 prevalent views and he also knows the truth that surpasses them.

Elsewhere the Buddha states that he is personally acquainted with light beings more exalted than the sun and stars (MN 79.11). These brahmas and devas would surely qualify as "gods" in the Greek and popular sense of the word. However, they do not affect Buddhism. Whether they exist or not, intervene or not, boast or not, there is still suffering, a cause of suffering, and end of suffering, and a path to the end of suffering.

Earth, Space, and the Universe

The "universe" is defined as everything that physically exists: the entirety of space and time, all forms of matter, energy, and momentum, and the physical laws and constants that govern them. The term universe may also be used in slightly different contextual senses, denoting such concepts as the cosmos, the world, or Nature.

Sunrise at Second 24, Earth from low-orbit space (ESA/Hubble).

Astronomical observations indicate that the universe is 13.73 ± 0.12 billion years old. Its diameter is at least 93 billion light years, or 880 ×1024 (i.e., 880 followed by twenty-four zeroes) metres. According to the prevailing scientific theory, the universe has expanded from a gravitational singularity known as the Big Bang, a point in space and time at which all the matter and energy of the observable universe were concentrated. Since the Big Bang, the universe has expanded to its present form, possibly with a brief period of cosmic inflation.... (Buddhism, as well as Hinduism and Jainism, teach that such cosmic expansions and contractions happen cyclically, terming each such event a "world cycle" or maha-kalpa, "great aeon").

The word "universe" is usually defined as encompassing everything. However, using an alternate definition, some have speculated that this "universe" is one of many disconnected "universes," which are collectively denoted as the multiverse in addition to additional dimensions within a single universe. For example, in bubble universe theory, there are an infinite variety of "universes," each with different physical constants. Similarly, in the many-worlds hypothesis, new "universes" are spawned with every quantum measurement.

Throughout recorded history, several cosmologies and cosmogonies have been proposed to account for observations of the universe. The earliest quantitative models were developed by the ancient Greeks [borrowed from India], who proposed that the universe possesses infinite space and has existed eternally, but contains a single set of concentric spheres of finite size corresponding to the fixed stars, the Sun and various planets rotating about a spherical but unmoving Earth.
