He is alleged to be the protector and guide of the historical Buddha Gautama and rose to symbolize the Buddha's power.
VajrapÄni is also called Chana Dorje and Chador and extensively represented in Buddhist iconography as one of the earliest three protective deities or bodhisattvas surrounding the Buddha. Each of them symbolizes one of the Buddha's virtues... More

The Ten Stages of Zen Enlightenment
![]() |

.
The 10 Stages of Zen Enlightenment: A Map to Buddha-Nature
.
| Ten to Zen Bulls |
- What does Zen consider "enlightenment"? There are two words used. The first is satori (from Japanese satoru, to know, to see, understand a gestalt) or "sudden realization." Any insight or epiphany might do. But there's another word, kenshÅ, that means suddenly seeing our "true face," our "nature," our intrinsic "Buddha-nature." Certainly, our "true nature," which is the true nature of all things, has three marks. Penetrating this is necessary to letting go of all clinging.
- None of these accords with what the historical Buddha taught as enlightenment (bodhi, "awakening"), but seeing "emptiness" (suƱƱatÄ) -- how all things are impersonal -- is necessary for the first stage of awakening called "stream entry."
- The Ten Bulls or the "Ten Ox Herding Pictures" (Chinese shĆniĆŗ åē, Japanese jÅ«gyÅ«zu åēå³, Korean sipwoo ģģ°)
Created by 12th-century Chinese Chan Master KuòÄn ShÄ«yuĒn, these images explain the stages of enlightenment—from desperate seeking to the realization that the ox we’ve been chasing has been the "Buddha-nature" we already possess and have always possessed.
This isn’t just ancient art. It’s a mirror showing where we truly are on the path to awakening right now.
This video explores The 10 Stages of Zen Enlightenment: A Map to Buddha-Nature, decoding the Zen Buddhist path to awakening through Zen’s most iconic teaching story.
Learn how KuòÄn ShÄ«yuĒn’s Ten Ox-Herding Pictures became a timeless visual guide to mindfulness, meditation, and non-duality in Chinese Chan and Zen Buddhism.

Manjushri Bodhisattva cuts our ignorance
(Buddha's Wisdom with Matt) MANJUSHRI: The bodhisattva who cuts through ignorance
| Thousand-Armed Manjushri |
The name "MaƱjuÅrÄ«" is a combination of Sanskrit word maƱju and the honorific -ÅhrÄ«. It can therefore be literally translated as "Beautiful One with Glory" or "Beautiful One with Auspiciousness."
| Namasangiti Manjushri |
In MahÄyÄna Buddhism
Scholars have identified MaƱjuÅrÄ« as the oldest and most significant bodhisattva in MahÄyÄna Buddhist literature [2]. Notable traits of MaƱjuÅhrÄ« include: More
It's impersonal: My EGO is an illusion?
AnattÄ: "not-self," "non-self," "non-ego," "egolessness," "selflessness," "soullessness," the fact that ultimately all is "impersonal" is the last and most difficult of the three fetters or wrong views to cut.
It is one of the Universal Characteristics of All Existence (ti-lakkhana). The anattÄ doctrine taught by the historical Buddha is that neither within the bodily and mental phenomena of existence (the Five Aggregates clung to as self: form, feelings, perceptions, formations, and consciousness), nor outside of them, can there be found anything that in the ultimate sense can ever be regarded as a self or independently-existing real ego-entity, soul, self, or any other abiding essence, substance, or atman.
This is the central doctrine of Buddhism, without the understanding of which any real knowledge of Buddhism is altogether impossible.
It is the only really specific Buddhist doctrine, with which the entire structure of the Buddhist Teaching (Dharma, Dhamma) stands or falls.
All the remaining Buddhist doctrines might, more or less, be found in other philosophical systems or religions, but the anattÄ-doctrine is only clearly and unreservedly taught by the Buddha (or buddhas before him), wherefore the Buddha is known as the anattÄ-vÄdi, or "Teacher of Egolessness."
Whoever has not penetrated this impersonal characteristic of all existence and does not comprehend that in reality there exists only this continually self-consuming process of arising and passing bodily and mental phenomena, that there is no separate ego-entity within or without this process, that person will not be able to understand Buddhism, that is, the teaching of the Four Ennobling (Enlightening) Truths (sacca) in the correct light.
One will think that it is one's ego or personality that experiences suffering, one's person that performs good and harmful karma and will be reborn according to those actions, one's personality that will enter into nirvana, one's personality that practices the Ennobling Eightfold Path. More

Save oneself or save everyone else? Buddhism's most dangerous question
| The Bodhisattva Ideal (BPS) |
What began as a philosophical disagreement between MahÄyÄna and [Hinayana schools until they were all destroyed and] TheravÄda Buddhism [arose]. It became something far more dangerous: a 2,000-year argument about what "liberation" (vimutti, moksha) actually means, who it's for, and whether saving oneself first is an act of wisdom or an act of cowardice.

ZEN: Bodhidharma's 'Wake Up Sermon'
(Echoes of Lost Knowledge) The sermon that has awakened more minds than any other teaching in Zen Buddhism | Bodhidharma
"Bodhidharma" was a semi-legendary Indian Buddhist monk who lived during the 5th or 6th century CE [1]. He is traditionally credited as the transmitter of Chan (Zen) Buddhism to China and is regarded as its first Chinese patriarch [a]. He is also popularly regarded as the founder of Shaolin kung fu [2, 3, 4, 5], an idea popularized in the 20th century [4, 5, 2] but based on the 17th century Yijin Jing and the Taoist association of daoyin gymnastics with him. Buddhism split: Mahayana emerged
(Buddha's Wisdom) Heretical new texts turn the historical Buddha Shakyamuni's Dharma (Doctrine) on its head, infusing it with the Old Vedic Religion of the Brahmins, Taoism, Hinduism, and later thought, sometimes directly opposing what Gautama Buddha taught about nirvana and samsara and many other things, including the Ten Perfections (reduced by Mahayana to six) and the 31 Planes of Existence (reduced to six)...

The blue 'Medicine Buddha' - Healer
The MEDICINE BUDDHA: Buddhism's Forgotten Healer | Bhaisajyaguru
The Medicine Buddha (BhaisajyaGuru) is one of the most fascinating figures in MahÄyÄna Buddhism: a blue-skinned buddha associated with healing, compassion, and the Pure Land of Lapis Lazuli (a beautiful blue Afghan gemstone).
But if Buddhism teaches impermanence, non-self (anattÄ), and detachment from the body, why does it include a buddha devoted to curing illness?
This video explores the history, philosophy, and psychological depth behind Bhaiį¹£ajyaguru...and what Buddhist healing really means.

The Heart Sutra (translation)
![]() |
| AvalokiteÅvara, Padmapani. What is the personification of the Perfection of Wisdom? |
.
The being bent on supreme enlightenment was moving through the wisdom that has gone beyond, looking down from on high, beholding only five heaps, seeing that in and of themselves they are empty.
Emptiness does not differ from form, and form does not differ from emptiness; whatever is form, that is emptiness.
Herein, O Foremost in Wisdom, all phenomena bear the mark of emptiness. They are not dual, not produced nor stopped, not defiled nor immaculate, not deficient nor complete.
Therefore, O Foremost in Wisdom, in emptiness, in being impersonal, there is no form nor feeling, nor perception, nor formation, nor consciousness.
![]() |
| Bodhisattva, Dambulla, Sri Lanka |
There is no mind-consciousness element; there is no ignorance, no extinction of ignorance, and so forth, until we come to: There is no decay and death, no extinction of decay and death. There is no suffering, no origination, no stopping, no path.
There is no cognition, no attainment, and no nonattainment.
![]() |
| Prajna, Sophia, Goddess of Wisdom |
One has overcome what can upset, and in the end is quenched, having let go, having glimpsed Nirvana.
| Tibetan AvalokiteÅvara with 11 faces |
Therefore, one should recognize the Perfection of Wisdom, the Prajnaparamita, as the great mantra, the mantra of great knowledge, the utmost mantra, the unequalled mantra, allayer of all suffering, in truth -- for what could go wrong? By the Prajnaparamita has this mantra been realized. It runs like this:
Gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha!(Gone, gone, gone beyond, gone altogether beyond, O, what an awakening, all hail!)
This (having seen all conditioned phenomena as impermanent, disappointing, and impersonal) completes the Heart of perfect Wisdom.
