Monkey Mind: 'Monkey-barring' for dating

'Monkey-barring' is the latest dating trend wreaking havoc on relationships
Without letting go of one, you grab the next.
(FOX 32 Chicago) Sept. 2, 2025: Certified counselor Love McPherson breaks down why some people jump from one relationship to the next [like a monkey grabbing bars, not letting go of one and already grabbing the next or like a frog waiting for a new pad to jump on instead of getting into the water of singlehood and swimming to find a better pad like a decent person] and offers steps for healing and forming healthier connections. "Fear of abandonment" anyone?
What is monkey mind? Restlessness, worry...
A Modern Journey to the West
The term "monkey mind" originates from Chinese xīnyuán or Sino-Japanese shin'en (心猿), which literally means "heart-mind monkey."

It is a Buddhist concept that describes a state of restlessness, capriciousness, and lack of control of one's thoughts and emotions, the inability to find soothing stillness, calm, equanimity, poise, or maintain mindfulness.

Others suffer from it, too?
Attempts to suppress tend not to work. It is spurred by caffeine, stimulants, excitotoxins (chemicals), and is frequently followed by a crash, exhaustion, and cyclical dysfunction:
  • Worry, sleepless, exhausted, stimulated, foggy, worried, sleepless, exhausted...
This "mind monkey" metaphor is found in Buddhist writings in Zen, Chan, Mind-only, Pure Land, and Shingon and has also been adopted by Taoism, Neo-Confucianism, Chinese poetry, theater, and literature.

Perfectionism is a mental illness.
The expression "monkey mind" commonly appears in two reversible four-character idioms paired with yima or iba (意馬), which means "idea horse."

Chinese xinyuanyima (心猿意馬) and Japanese ibashin'en (意馬心猿) illustrate the interconnectedness of a restless mind and wandering (discursive) thoughts.

The "Monkey King" Sun Wukong in the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West is an iconic personification of feeling indecisive and unsettled. More

All I Want for V-Day is Sexy, Sadie

Dr. Sadie, what's my passion? - "What's passion"? - No, what's MY passion, my life's purpose?

Dr. Sadie Allison on The Heidi and Frank Morning Zoo Show, KLOS, Feb. 7th, 2025
.
A Happy Married Life: A Buddhist Perspective
For adults only. Are you 18? Pretend to press here <> if you are. Otherwise, go away. Not suitable for monastic eyes.

"Sex with Sadie" (or it could've been "Sex With Emily") was a show by graphic feminist sexologist Dr. Sadie Allison (that was Rated somewhere between R, NC-17, and XXX), CEO of TickleKitty.com, a "toy" company concerning itself with base sensual pleasures of every description, the practice of villagers.

Sex or passion for Valentine's?
Happy Valentine's Day, elementary school class!
Dr. Sadie, is there Nothing Higher to Live For than [boinking, schtooping, and the Choctaw Heimlich]?

Sure there is, Wisdom Quarterly. My TEDx Talk (below) is all about fearless giving not mutual wham-bam-thank-you-mam'ing.

All I want for Valentine's Day is sexy, Sadie.

Um, that's Doctor Sadie.

Oh, sorry, Dr. Sadie.

What do you mean by "sexy," Wisdom Quarterly?

Um, that's Venerable Wisdom Quarterly.

Really?

Focused and Fearless
No, we'd just like an honorific title, too. What we mean by "sexy" is passionate. We're interested in Turning Passions Into Profits like that shady guru Howard Christopher, Lisa Garr's motivational speaker pal.

Wisdom Quarterly, what about turning your passion into fearless giving?

Dr. Sadie, do you mean dana (letting go, unselfishness, generosity, sharing, liberality) like the fearless and noble Shaila Catherine to make skillful-karma so that we can enjoy the results/fruits lifetime after lifetime in this interminable samsara until we reach full release?

Well, I was more thinking like this.*

Topics too hot for American TV?
(Dr. Sadie Allison & Tickle Kitty) Dr. Sadie Allison - Reel (Rated NC-17)
Nothing Higher to Live For?
Science of FLIRTING like sexy H.O.T.  A.P.E.S.

*Turning sexual PASSION into skillful action of Fearless Giving with Dr. Sadie

Turning sexual passion into skillful karma
Wretch, right, Dr. Sadie? - No, stretch, Dear, and get limber. - I thought you said get Limburger.
.
How can we empower real intimacy?
(TEDx Talks) How did a renowned American sex educator develop the passion for "fearless giving" (dana) that allows her to teach intimacy techniques to millions? What obstacles and prejudices did she overcome to blossom as America's Pleasure Coach? And how can we adapt her "fearless giving" model to create happiness in our own lives -- in and out of the bedroom?

In her short TEDx talk, Dr. Sadie shows how to face life's challenge with true determination, especially when one's drive to give fearlessly runs smack up against daily reality.

She offers examples from her own childhood, where intense family dysfunction, coupled with being fiercely ostracized at school for guiding girlfriends through their budding sexuality, could easily have kept her from ever being successful.

Yet, her drive to give fearlessly and passionately has led her to become one of today's leading authorities on sexuality and an award-winning sex self-help author with over two million books sold (as of 2013).

Watching Dr. Sadie enables us to discover our own inner "fearless giver." By the end of the talk, we'll know the best moment to fully embrace it.

I go to nightclubs for the restroom camaraderie

White female hitchiking to Yosemite

It's a Dharma Bum life, Jay-Z.
Societe US says there are 18 behaviors branded as low class by American society. Some of us are the haves and some are the have-nots, but being "low class" isn’t so much about what we have as much as it is about what we don’t, namely "class." The American caste system isn't as obvious to outsiders as it is to us. Any highschooler learns it. "Social clues," Cage the Elephant tells us, are the key. There are dead-giveaways, habits that tell everyone that our upbringing was not posh, upscale, spoiled, or even pampered.

Dharma Bums (Jack Kerouac)
We were at the back of the plane by the bathrooms. We fed on Twinkies instead of cake. We ate Heinz yellow mustard on benches instead of Grey Poupon in cars. We spat like Hock Tua Gal [Hawk Tuah Girl], as Southern as a Tennessee brat in Daisy Dukes. We considered hitching all the way to the greatest National Park in the land, Yo-Semite, now open to Gentiles, too.

This is not about eating junk food all the way to the holy haunts of the Paiute Indians. This is about getting back to the land and running into a meadow or grove until a deer or Sasquatch notices. (Bigfoot is probably high up in the cold hills, not wandering from peak to peak in the summer flush of a late spring and all this Tuolumne River melt into the lazy Merced River of the valley). So mosquitoes and chiggers, mites and ticks are much bigger worries than the park's charismatic megafauna like grizzlies and brown bears.

At the end of the rainbow
Hey, Trashy, you're not riding or dining with us. Keep it movin, and take that knapsack with you.

You’ve known all along…
(Araya Amenti) July 8, 2024: ITALY. Hello and welcome. I'm Araya, and I am here to help you remember who you are and to get what you want out of this human experience. In this space, we talk about all things spirituality, manifestation, consciousness, health, and wellness.

I spent years and years and hundreds of thousands of dollars learning how to heal my body from chronic illness, which ended up being my soul's chosen path to awakening and having me remember who I am.

A new earth is here, and I am honored to be a guide as we shift into this new 5D world. Let's decondition [decolonize] our minds, leave the Matrix behind, and celebrate our uniqueness and authentic truth. Namaste, my friends!

Man and dog live a year in dangerous woods

(RAMIZ IN THE WILD) April 27, 2024: Hello🖐, dear viewers🤩 and subscribers😍to this channel. This time I lived with my canine companion for a year and two months in a very dangerous forest. It turns out that living in the forest for a long time is not a problem; in the forest one can find everything one needs for life. For example, there's water, food, and so on. In short, I built burrowed cave hut in 15 days. The only problem was that the clay took a long time to dry, but I solved this problem by drying it with fire. And I figured out my beloved dog was injured in the forest, but I did everything necessary. I patched up her wound, and she recovered quickly. I show all the rest in the video.

Rise of ‘Female Loneliness’ (Dukkha Girl)

This sucks so friggin bad and I'm all alone.
We miss our beloved, adopted (Shanghai victim) correspondent Dukkha Girl. She was on, she was gone, she came back, and now who knows where she is? So here's a replacement, Shoe0nHead, a clever allusion to that time someone asked the Zen master a koan and he "answered" by putting a sandal on his head and walking out. Ha.

But in a serious vein, if people only knew what dukkha is, they would have much more respect for what the Buddha found. What he taught, which made him so famous, is how to bring all suffering to an end. "Impossible!," people say, but it is possible, and a fraction of beings have already done it, giving the world the Noble Sangha, the community of those on the stages of awakening.

We would like to leave the term dukkha untranslated -- and nowadays not attempt to define "girl" either because of the libcon rancor and feminist hypocrisy that tends to engender -- because it's a multivalent Sanskrit word, having a range of meanings, with many shades and intensities.

Does the Buddha have advice for worldlings?
Translated, we prefer "disappointment," to show that it is much more than the common "suffering." Suffering sounds so bad that most of think we don't have that. But Tan Geoff is right to translate it as "stress" rather than distress, because even eustress (positive stress as comes from excitement) is included in this umbrella term. The best definition is long and comes from the Buddha:

It is not getting what we want, getting what we don't want, and all forms of ill and unease. It is pain, it is sadness, it is loss, it is ultimately that lack of fulfillment that drives us on to keep hoping and searching (craving) even though it continuously leaves us dissatisfied and off kilter and out of sorts.

No one gets me, except Grumpy Cats. He does.
The word dukkha at its root refers to an oxcart wheel that is off-center and therefore providing a bumpy, wonky, wobbly, uncertain, and unpleasant sometimes painful ride. All of life -- in all states of existence -- is beset by tinges of this. Hey, but what about the heavens? Even there, danger exists. They are not eternal, and they are certainly not fulfillment as they have been sold to us. They are temporary bliss, exalted, and that's the higher ones. The lower sensual ones seem little better than a good time on earth. Just ask the Indian, Greek, Sumerian, and Roman "gods" (the deus, devas) of the various pantheons, visitors from above acting like spoiled children with lots of power and beauty.

We ignore the danger of suffering, the misfortune others meet, until the S gets real (bad touch)
.
It is completely wrong to interpret Buddhism as saying there is no pleasure. If there were no pleasure, the Buddha explains, no one would stay in samsara. Of course, there's pleasure. It is our relationship to pleasure that is problematic. We crave, grasp at, and cling to the pleasant; we exhibit aversion and fear toward the unpleasant; we get bored or confused and fall asleep with the neutral, the neither-pleasant-nor-unpleasant.

F all y'all! Maybe pleasure's the solution
Moreover, there is a hidden danger in pleasure and attachment, like a flower or fruit with a hidden thorn. Or to use a now less familiar simile, which was popular and easier to relate to in the Buddha's ancient agrarian proto-India, it is like licking honey off the blade of a knife or razor used to gather that honey. It's sweet until it slices your tongue.

Females can get lonely? But they're always going to the bathroom together, going out in packs, being friends on the phone and on social media with their filters and clique parties, accompanying each other to venues, talking to everyone, and acting like the whole world is a popularity contest in high school!

Of course girls get lonely, and women have it even worse. Everything that happens on the HS social scene is temporary, even in college, but IRL? Whoa, suddenly it's all forevermore.

Females are pitted against each other by the society, treated in curious and crappy ways by males, misunderstood by a male-dominated medical field, psychologized, medicated (with most of them being put on antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs), and told to smile to make viewers feel better as if it were their job to make us feel good. Dating/mating in particular is a problem. Anyhow, who knows? Let's ask a woman. Dukkha Girl! Oh, she's not here. Um, Shoe0nHead, take it away:

The Rise of ‘Female Loneliness’ (How to Fix It)
Am I the problem because I feel like the victim in all of this, wahhhhh. Everyone hates me!

Valentine's Day: Countdown to Extinction

Man, life on the phone sucks! Is all life just social media and a popularity contest?

5 reasons why Valentine's Day is bad for us
(Psych2Go) February 14th is Valentine's Day. It's the day of love! Just ask Cupid and Eros, not to mention Mara Devaputra (the tempter figure in Buddhism).

Valentine's Day can be good, but there's lots of pressure put on relationships as well, to say nothing of the single people desperate for a romantic partner. The thought of not getting gifts that are expensive or meaningful enough overpower the true essence of a relationship.

It's a day of reminding a partner of how much you love him or her or them through actions and affirmations. What are we doing to celebrate today? Are we still a couple? Are we newly single?

Here's a video on the reasons why some people are still single: youtu.be/pGgGbZZdYOg

When Jill gave up single-use plastic

Jill Replogle (laist.com, Feb. 1, 2019); Ashley Wells, Crystal Q. (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
My so-called "plastic-free" life. I tried it for a month. Here's what happened...
.
Single-use plastic (Jill Replogle/LAist)
My family of four gave up single-use plastic for the month of January. I mean, our execution wasn't perfect, but we gave it a good shot.

Why did we do it? We did it because 450 years-to-never is the estimated time it takes for some plastics to break down in the environment -- and because scientists estimate more than 18 billion pounds of plastic winds up in our ocean every year.

Microplastics have been found in the air we breathe and the water we drink. It's been found in the stomachs of deep sea creatures, birds, and turtles. It pollutes beaches and rivers and, well, just about every ecosystem on earth.

And while recycling is great, as plastic waste researcher Jenna Jambeck says, "The most sustainable thing you can do is not generate the trash in the first place."

Plastic has many important uses, no doubt. But covering the plastic fork that I didn't need in the first place is not one of them, at least not for us.

So we tried going cold on single-use plastic during the month of January. Here's how it went. More
