Hi Friends,
This week I wanted to share my thoughts on everything that is going on with Luigi Mangione and UnitedHealthcare assassination. Most people already know the story, but what I think few understand is the wider context of people’s anger at health insurance companies and the lifting up of someone they see as a vigilante.
Under Obamacare more people are insured than ever before. It getting passed meant companies could not deny one based on preexisting conditions or family history. Even with the coverage the actual likelihood of one paying into one's health insurance and actually being insured when we need it is unreasonably low.
Doctors, labs, and hospitals are out of network depending on who you have and whether we have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Elevance, CVS Health, Kaiser Foundation, Humana, Centene Group, Cigna, or other health care services corporations are not immune to the possibility of having to pay more out of pocket than one can afford and being saddled with bills one has to fight with the insurance provider over.
All of us have to figure out a way forward. Some believe that it will be through legislation that curbed insurance companies' ability to deny and delay claims until the problem, or the person, goes away.
Luigi Mangione has been hailed or condemned on Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook by what feels like everyone in the United States.

Sympathy for the Devil, they say, is not a good thing. But, c'mon, it's Prime Minister Netanyahu's penile prostate tumor, and his junk is being operated on. Ouch. Even the Devil has got to be hating it. A UTI (urinary tract infection) seems to be coursing through the dictator's [Balzac] and the defiant man is in great pain right where it counts, right when it counts. The disease state and surgery have, however, helped him avoid prosecution for corruption by making him unavailable to provide deceptive testimony and/or evidence.
Benjamin Netanyahu to undergo prostate removal surgery after UTI
(New York Post) Dec. 29, 2024: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was set to undergo prostate removal surgery on Sunday — just a week after being diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. Netanyahu, 75, was going under the knife at the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem, with the operation taking place as the PM manages multiple wars with Palestine, Lebanon, Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran’s terror proxies. He is also facing his own corruption trial. Netanyahu’s surgery was expected to take two hours as doctors tackle “a benign enlargement [aka tumor] of his prostate,” the prime minister’s office said in a very carefully crafted statement. (CNN-News18) Streamed Sunday morning, Dec. 29, 2024. Benny Netanyahu, the entrenched and CIA-backed prime minister of Israel, will have his prostate -- which is accessed through the anus -- removed during surgery on Sunday while under completeanesthesia, which is a life-threatening condition.
Will he still be a "man" without it? Probably, but he's sure to be more sympathetic to trans and LGBTQIA+ individuals than he already is, forcibly inducting and welcoming them into his war machine. Netanyahu's office reported that during the prime minister's examination at the Hadassah Hospital on Wednesday, an infection in the urinary tract caused by a benign enlargement of the prostate was found.
Doctors decided to proceed with the operation even though "he's received antibiotic treatment that eradicated the infection since then, for a few days." With so many people sending him animosity, hatred, and evil wishes around the world, it is not clear if he can avoid serious post-surgical complications.
But his Shin Bet, Mossad, IDF, CIA apparatus, and PR firm are sure to keep any of that from the public, presenting him as a competent leader in times of endless war, genocide, and Middle East conquest. Will his wife leave him like Assad's wife did after he was deposed and depressed, penniless and stuck in Moscow, Russia? There is much more money in staying, so the public face of their marriage should be fine.
Jimmy "Peanut Farmer" Carter just couldn't bear to see Trump become president again when he himself only got one term and lost the White House to fiendish but beloved Republican Pres. Ronnie "The Great Communicator" Reagan. After decades of good deeds for Habitat for Humanity and being called "The Antichrist" for trying to solve the very profitable "problems" in the geopolitical Middle East. These troubles, most of it with Bibi Netanyahu at the helm, have been going on for most of our lives thanks to the CIA grooming Bibi and surreptitiously supporting him. He was in hospice for a long time at the end, after the passing of wonderful wife Rosalind Carter.

We convened, got raffle tickets, placed potluck items on a table, reviewed the silent auction objects on offer, and settled in for the hailing of the Four Directions by Araceli in Native American tradition, with a conch shell trumpet and palo santo incense. Then we journaled a letter to ourselves to be opened in six months, the summer to come, sharing a small part of it with the whole group as we got in touch with a vision of nature and a sacred animal. Very New Age. Then the Sanskrit chanting began, accompanied by bongos, a spaceship like percussive instrument, and harmonium, in call-and-response kirtan. This was followed by the raffle, with a free ticket going to anyone who brought a potluck item. The prizes were in the $50 to $180 range, donated by local merchants supporting Yoga Gives Back and Ambassador Stella. Everyone got two hugs and we met eyes with another person, all designed to get people out of their shells and into the social community. Many females pranced about in skimpy yoga gear, laughing, making new friends. Then we feasted and had mocktails, hot chocolate, fresh persimmon juice, exotic teas from the Tea Bar, as well as soft drinks. This was followed by effusive sharing by anyone who wanted to say something, as we moved to the gift exchange blanket. Participants were encouraged to donate a gift for it, which everyone could see. Then items were chosen, infused with good mojo as the items got handed to the left and arrived at the designated chooser.
(This means everyone ended up with a gift, and some with more than one. The owner, Ryan and his young daughter, Louisa (the youngest teacher the studio has ever produced), were on hand. It was all handshakes, hugs, and even some yoga jokes. (Yoga jokes? A hippie is standing in front of a yoga studio and the owner says, "Man, you gotta leave." The hippie replies, "Nah, Man, 'amastay," you know, which sounds like "Namaste." Dumb as it might sound, it got a great laugh because up until tonight, no one knew there were such things as "yoga jokes." Not to be outdone, Ryan the owner said the place wasn't always going to be called "Kinship." He toyed with the idea of naming "Om Depot." That also got a great laugh). Hugs, kisses, number exchanged, and some people lingered to chat after four straight hours of spiritual fun and frolicking. It was a great time. And we were all reminded that in three short days, it's the 108 Sun Salutations Yoga Challenge in the same room at noon.
9th annual New Year Sacred Ceremony, Yoga Gives Back fundraiser, Potluck w/ Stella, Araceli, Veronica
Date: Saturday, 12/28/24, 6:00 pm-10:00 pm. Welcome to the 9th annual New Year Sacred Ceremony (fundraiser and Veggie Potluck) the final Saturday of the year.
We begin with a sacred ceremony to honor the interconnectedness of all life. This space will be infused with culturally-inspired observances, reverence for ancient wisdom teachings, and intentions for peace and healing in the coming year.
After the ceremony, we continue with a fundraiser, delicious veggie potluck, and the beloved Gift- Giving Blanket tradition. This portion of the evening includes opportunities for music, poetry (open mic), and community connection.
Sacred Ceremony creates a sacred space to honor life’s journey and our relationships with all beings. Through culturally respectful rituals and shared intentions, we cultivate a collective vision of peace for the New Year. Our gathering includes a series of meaningful activities to inspire growth, healing, and connection:
Smudging with white sage
Purify and cleanse personal energy through the sacred practice of smudging. Using the smoke of white sage (Salvia apiana), we clear away negative energies and create an open space for healing, renewal, and positive transformation.
Journaling activity
We take a moment to reflect on our journey and set powerful intentions for the year ahead. Answer a few curated questions to guide reflection, focusing on what we wish to release and what we want to invite into our life.
Sacred chanting
Together, we chant sacred Sanskrit mantras, uniting our voices and hearts in harmony. This collective vibration invokes peace, healing, and strength, setting a powerful intention for the New Year ahead.
Inspired by Native American traditions, the Gift-Giving Blanket invites us to bring a gift to share with the community. After laying a gift down on the blanket, everyone will have the opportunity to choose a gift brought by someone else. (No need to purchase any gifts; we encourage to recycle from our own possessions to lighten our load). Gifts can be new or gently used items. All are welcome — whether or not bringing a gift to share.
Yoga Gives Backis a non-profit organization that supports women and children in India, providing educational opportunities and micro-loans to help them build sustainable lives. Stella Han is an ambassador for YGB and will lead this fundraiser. Contribute directly to the cause via Stella’s fundraising portal:
Alternatively, donations can be made via Venmo: @stella_han_yoga. Please include “YGB” in the comment section along with an email and phone number. (All personal contact information is only visible to Stella Han). Cash or checks are accepted as well.
Veggie potluck
What is there to eat? Compassionate veggie food
Bringing food is optional, but to contribute, please email Stella (the coordinator and organizer) at stellaheartyoga@gmail.com with details of the dish you plan to bring. All dishes must be vegan or vegetarian. Please also include an ingredient card next to the dish for transparency so diners can avoid allergens like gluten (wheat, barley, rye, oats, buckwheat, all of which contain their own form of this popular toxin that destroys the cilia of the gut lining and results in malabsorption and eventual malnutrition). All contributors to the potluck will receive 3 raffle tickets. Please mention to host about contribution to ensure receiving the raffle tickets.
Dress warmly and comfortably. If feeling inspired, festive or spiritual white attire is optional as we gather to celebrate and set intentions for the New Year with a clean slate. We look forward to coming together in community, celebration, and giving.

The two colossal Bamiyan Buddhas stood as arguably the most important archeological site in Afghanistan for well over 1,000 years. They were the largest standing Buddha figures in the world.
Then, in a matter of days in the spring of 2001, members of the Taliban [urged on by the CIA and Pakistan's ISI] destroyed the images carved into a cliff face in the Bamiyan Valley. What comes next for Bamiyan?
The smaller Buddha stood about 125 feet (38 meters) tall. It is thought to have been carved from the mountainside around 550 CE, according to radiocarbon dating [of organic matter, which seems very unreliable and based on the assumption that any portion of it is when it was all built].
To the east, the larger Buddha stood some 180 feet (55 meters) high, and was [thought to have been] carved a bit later, likely around 615 CE.
Each Buddha stood in a niche, attached to the back wall along their robes, but with free-standing feet and legs so pilgrims could circumambulate them.
The stone cores of the statues were originally covered with clay then with a brightly covered clay slip. When the region was actively Buddhist [by the Hazara tribe and earlier the Scythians/Indo-Sakas/Shakyians], visitors' reports suggest that at least the smaller Buddha was decorated with gemstones and enough bronze plating to make it seem as if it were made entirely of bronze or gold, rather than stone and clay.
Both faces were likely rendered in clay attached to wooden scaffolding; the blank, featureless stone core underneath was all that remained by the 19th century, giving the Bamiyan Buddhas an unsettling appearance to foreign travelers who encountered them.
The Buddhas appear to have been the work of the Gandhara civilization, showing some Greco-Roman artistic influence in the clinging drape of the [toga like] monastic robes.
Small cave niches around the statues hosted pilgrims and monastics; many of them feature brightly-painted wall and ceiling oil painted art, illustrating scenes from the life and teachings of the historical Buddha.
In addition to the two tall standing figures, numerous smaller seated Buddhas are carved into the cliff.
In 2008, archeologists rediscovered a buried reclining Buddha figure, 62 feet (19 meters) long, at the foot of the mountainside.
The Bamiyan region remained predominantly Buddhist up until the 9th century. Islam gradually displaced Buddhism in the area because it offered easier trading relations with surrounding Muslim states.
In 1221, Genghis Khan invaded the Bamiyan Valley, wiping out the population, but leaving the Buddhas undamaged. Genetic testing confirms that the Hazara people who now live in Bamiyan are descended from the Mongols.
Most Muslim rulers and travelers in the area either expressed wonder at the statues or paid them little heed. For example, Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire, passed through the Bamiyan Valley in 1506-7 but did not even mention the Buddhas in his journal.
The later Mughal emperor Aurangzeb (r. 1658-1707) reportedly tried to destroy the Buddhas using artillery; he was famously conservative, and even banned music during his reign, in a foreshadowing of Taliban rule. Aurangzeb's reaction was the exception, however, not the rule among Muslim observers of the Bamiyan Buddhas. More
The body (form) is thought to be most obviously “me,” what “I” regard as the most tangible part of my “self.”
Around it
therefore are constructed many views, all of them distorted and perverted to some extent, which prevent insight arising into the body as
it really is.
This book, Bag of Bones, is a small Buddhist anthology relating to the
body in various ways. It presents material which, if
contemplated by the earnest and sincere student of the Dharma, will eventually provide fruitful insight and,
thereby, freedom from the many cravings, obsessions, addictions, lusts, desires, and fears centered
on the body.
Such thirst for pleasures in which the body is the
instrument (though it is in the heart-mind where they
dwell), awaken and intensify greed of all kinds, for instance, for food and sex and ego boosts of all kinds.
Greed (attraction, grasping, clinging, addiction, attachment) often accompanies pleasurable sensations. Therefore, desire (craving) needs a
rather bitter medicine to combat it.
How can anybody say this body is unattractive?
So the number of items contained here on the unattractiveness of the body, its decay
and death — all unpleasant matters — is high. Some of the material concerned with bodily unattractiveness is like a healing balm that need only be taken while the disease of greedy-lust is
active. Afterwards, it may be discontinued and set aside.
It is important
to understand this so as not to form the mistaken impression
that the Buddha advocated viewing all beauty as loathsome. There is a great deal of beauty in this world, not all of which causes us to become obsessed with harmful things.
It is only that there is a hook hidden in beauty, an unseen danger that gets tangled with
the greed in one’s heart and leads to more and more
complications and difficulties.
Fears center around aging and disease, decay and death. They
are never overcome by pretending they do not exist. Ostriches are said to bury their heads in the sand at the approach of
enemies.
Only resolutely facing the inevitable features of
life can bring insight and the dispelling of fear.
The Buddha’s instructions on how to contemplate the body
are addressed to those who are able, through their lifestyle,
to practice them.
This means in effect monks and nuns, novices, together with dedicated lay people. The former group have
this contemplation given to them by their monastic teachers at the
time of going-forth from the homebound to the left-home life, which is when we might most need such a medicine to combat lust.
Lust hurts and often harms anyone, but it can completely destroy the high life of someone training in monasticism.
Laypeople keeping the Five Precepts
have contentment with their partners as an important part
of their practice. Sex is a natural part of their life but should
still be restrained and kept within the bounds of the Third
Precept. If not, how much trouble might follow!
But some few may wish to live without sexual attachments, and this cannot
be done in the way of Dhamma (the Buddha's Teaching or natural truth) by ignoring the power of
our human sexual drive or by repressing and suppressing it.
Only when it is
treated with mindfulness (nonjudgmental awareness and observation) can it be transcended. It does not last forever. It is overcome by the first meditative absorption and uprooted by the stages of enlightenment.
The aspect
of mindfulness needed for this is the subject, or
rather the interrelated subjects, of this book.
Bhutan: Last Himalayan Buddhist kingdom
In today's world we are subjected to a mass media bombardment
of sensuality. Sex especially is
used as the bait (attractant) to sell things, a titillation of sensory
experience.
When this is continued, defilements of mind, notably lust, greed, and
attachment, are sure to be strengthened. When this has
happened, the result is not more happiness but only an increase of disappointment (dukkha, stress, ill, woe), suffering, trouble, and difficulties.
I stared until they started to look like skeletons, bags of bones, all of them. I ought to let go, become a monk, and gain enlightenment because flesh and bones are gross. I didn't tell them.
.
The medicine
for such over-indulgence and over-stimulation is given here.
It is said that this subject of meditation is unique to the
Buddha’s Teachings, the Dhamma, and that elsewhere it is not clearly
taught.
This is unsurprising as we find that desire is
sometimes accepted as being “natural.” Wherever desires
are viewed as “natural,” that is, inherent in one’s nature or
self, nothing much can be done about them.
But the Buddha
analyzed desires into those which are wholesome — the zeal to
practice Dhamma, for instance — and the unwholesome
ones, among which are greediness and lust.
They may not be
gross either, as in the case of the meditator who is greedy
for bliss, or visions, psychedelic experiences, and attached to such things.
The
Buddha has provided the medicine for all unwholesome
desires, and according to our various ways of life we can
use it to effect partial or complete cures.
When the emphasis is so much on sensuality, youth, and
beauty as we find now, the darker sides of life get pushed
away and attempts are made, always unsuccessful, to sweep
them under the rug. Those who try to do so will not be
pleased with the exercises contained in the Buddha’s
contemplation of the body as it really is.
Such things will appear to them
as morbid and unnatural, offensive and repulsive. Yet, they are also a part of this life
and should not be ignored. And if the effort is made to
ignore what is unpleasant about the body, sooner or later
one will be jolted into the recognition of these things.
Such
jolts are not pleasant. Rather than leave it until one is forced to know the body’s unpleasant sides, it is better to acquaint
one’s emotions with this knowledge gradually.
In this spirit, Bag of Bones is being published.
Unfortunately,
being only a book, it cannot give person-to-person advice on
special problems. It can only offer some general guidelines
to people who are interested in reducing their greediness and
lust.
It's only skin deep for reptilian hybridization
A word of warning: meditation on the unattractiveness
of the body can be very potent and should only be practiced
with moderation and care, especially if one has no personal
contact with a teacher of Buddhist meditation.
If fear and
anxiety, or other extreme unwholesome emotional states
arise after practice of it, then it will be better to lay it down
and take up loving kindness (mettā) or recollection of the
Buddha (Buddhānussati) as one’s meditation instead.
This book, therefore, is not so much for beginners in
Buddhism but rather for those who have already practiced
for some time. May it inspire many people to practice the
Dhamma more intently!

Hanukkah(also Chanukkah) is a Jewish festival commemorating the recovery of Jerusalem and subsequent rededication of the Second Temple at the beginning of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire in the 2nd century BCE. [The genocidal God of war and domination is never satisfied but keeps his soldiers fighting for empire and control.]
The Jew in the Lotus is a 1994 book by Rodger Kamenetz about a historic dialogue between rabbis and the 14th Dalai Lama, the first recorded major dialogue between experts in Judaism and [Tibetan] Buddhism [1, 2]. The book was a popular success and became an international best-seller.
Writing in The New York Times, Verlyn Klinkenborg cited its broader relevance as a book "about the survival of esoteric traditions in a world bent on destroying them" [3]. The book was primarily potent in capturing an ongoing engagement in the U.S. between Jews, often highly secularized (nonreligious), and Buddhist teachings.
Kamenetz popularized the term JuBu or Jewish Buddhist, interviewing poet Allen Ginsberg, vipassana ("insight meditation") teacher Joseph Goldstein, Ram Dass (Harvard Prof. Richard Alpert, Ph.D.). and other American Jews involved with bringing Eastern traditions to the West.
The book also made prominent a Jewish mystical response to Eastern spirituality in the Jewish renewal movement, led by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, and Jewish meditation as taught by Rabbi Jonathan Omer-Man.
The title is a pun on the famous Vajrayana Buddhist mantra Om mani padme hum, which is frequently interpreted as "hail to the jewel in the lotus."
First published in 1994 by Harper San Francisco, it is now on its 37th reprint. In fall of 2007 the paperback was reissued with an afterword that updated readers on Jewish-Buddhist dialogues.
The Jew in the Lotus inspired a PBS documentary of the same name produced and directed by Laurel Chiten, released theatrically in New York, Los Angeles, and Boston, and subsequently on Independent Lens on Sept. 1, 1999 [4].
Rabbi Dr. Jay Michaelson writes, "Outside the academy, by far the most influential text on Buddhism and Judaism is Rodger Kamenetz's 1994 bestseller, The Jew in the Lotus.
"On one level, Lotus is a travelogue, recounting a historic (or quixotic) meeting between an assortment of rabbis and the Dalai Lama.
But because Kamenetz perceptively and astutely detailed the participants' varying ways of relating to Buddhism, including his own, it became a kind of BuJu Bible. It did not recount history so much as make it. It would not be an exaggeration to divide American Buddhist Jewish life into the time before and after Lotus's publication." More

The Ultra-Orthodox vs. The IDF: Israel's Other Religious War
(VICE News) Oct 23, 2014: Since Israel's inception, the Haredi — religious ultra-Orthodox adherents of Judaism — have been exempt from Zionist Israel's military conscription laws.
But their growing population, coupled with their high unemployment rate and dependence on state benefits [a country they were in and living in peace before Ashkenazi invaders came with the West to take over Palestine to further colonial British and imperial American Christian-Zionism to promote Western influence in the Middle East/North Africa and oil-extraction, militarism, Big Pharma, weapons manufacturing, and geopolitical full-spectrum dominance], sparked outrage within the country's secular majority.
After years of demanding that the religious Haredi share the secular responsibility of serving in the offensive armed forces (euphemistically called the "IDF" while no one dare speak of the secretive Mossad and Shin Bet war promoters), the Israeli government passed an unprecedented law in March 2014 that requires Haredi males to serve in the military.
The decision resulted in major opposition from the Ultra-Orthodox community, from violent protests to religious leaders demanding that no one should comply but instead dissent and engage in civil disobedience.
