"Netanyahu’s war is a year old, and Sinwar’s war has only just started"

(Middle East Eye) Oct. 8, 2024: In this op-ed, the Editor-in-Chief of Middle East Eye David Hearst reflects on the first year of Israel's genocidal War on Gaza, stating: “Netanyahu’s war is a year old and has no reverse gear. Sinwar’s war has only just started.”

Editor Hearst argues that while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu’s declared goals — crushing the political party he funded and defended HAMAS (an acronym), securing the return of Jewish pawns, and reordering the entire Middle East [to the CIA's liking] — remain unmet, HAMAS leader Yehia Sinwar’s strategy has ignited widespread Palestinian resistance. He adds, “This scale of suffering has never been visited on any previous generation of Palestinians,” yet despite the devastation, the spirit of resistance has only grown. Hearst examines the regional and global consequences of the conflict as Israel finds itself increasingly isolated while Palestinian resilience drives the war into a new phase.
