Boosters can DAMAGE immune system (TJDS)

Boosters could DAMAGE the immune system, say NY Times and scientists
(The Jimmy Dore Show, Jan. 1, 2022) Israel is considering approving a fourth Covid-19 vaccine "booster" dose for vulnerable people in an effort to contain the relatively harmless but fast-spreading Omicron variant. However, some scientists are urging caution, citing a lack of evidence either for or against this latest booster. Jimmy Dore discusses the problems with endless boosters.

Comedy roast of Hollywood at awards (video)

National treasure Betty White once roasted snooty-beauty actor Sandra Bullock at an awards show. Wait, what is an awards show? That's when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler roast all of Hollywood in a tight opening monologue right to their faces, like this example at the similar Golden Globes.

We miss her too much. It was just a few days ago that the mainstream media was running a big story across platforms about Betty White, as she approached 100, asking her what her secret to longevity was. To which she joked, she "avoids anything green." She was always ready with the quip, the mark of a master roaster. Actually, comedy is key, she confided.

It was time, no matter what Hollywood says
(T.J. Sortino, edited by WQ) Who's here to celebrate the life, the legend Betty White? It's December 31st, 2021! Betty White left this world after 99 years. She'll be remembered. May she RIP. She lived an amazing life, always putting others before herself. She was personally responsible for the rescue of many abused and homeless animals, with a heart as big as the ocean.

Pandemic New Year's Eve alternatives

CNS, City News Service via KFI AM (iHeart.com, 12/31/21); Editors, Wisdom Quarterly

Pandemic dampens New Year's Eve celebrations, but alternate events planned
LOS ANGELES - The COVID-19 pandemic and a winter surge of Omicron variant infections is toning down New Year's Eve celebrations in Los Angeles County tonight.

But some alternative programming is being offered for those looking to celebrate, and there are still chances for some in-person festivities.

The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors is presenting a pair of free fireworks shows in Marina del Rey, with pyrotechnics being fired from the marina's south jetty.

Burton Chace Park, a traditionally popular viewing spot for Marina del Rey fireworks, is closed to the public to prevent any large gatherings, but county officials said the fireworks will be visible from locations throughout the marina, as well as Venice Beach and Dockweiler Beach.

The fireworks launch at 8:59 pm -- coinciding with the New Year on the East Coast -- and again at 11:59 pm.

Fireworks will also light up the sky at midnight on the Long Beach Waterfront, in a show presented by the Downtown Long Beach Alliance, Shoreline Village, and the LBC. The show is free and can be seen from spots in the waterfront area.

The annual New Year's Eve celebration at Grand Park in Downtown Los Angeles -- which traditionally attracts tens of thousands of revelers -- has been reduced to a no-live-audience event.

The event was originally going to be scaled down anyway, open only to invited front-line workers and first responders.

But with COVID cases surging, even that plan was scrapped.

Instead, the Music Center is presenting a celebration that will stream on Grand Park's YouTube channel and broadcast on Fuse. Kinky headlines the program, with musical performances also planned from Esty and DUCKWRTH. The program begins at 11:00 pm.

West Hollywood's annual #BOOM! Alcohol-and-Drug-Free New Year's Eve event has also been forced away from an in-person format due to COVID.

The gathering has been rebranded #BOOM@ In Your Living Room!, becoming a live-broadcast party for people who register online at boomweho.com.

The event will be hosted by drag artist Salina EsTitties and feature music by djquinnc, along with live music, celebrity guests, music videos, and a countdown at midnight.

The pre-show begins at 9:30 pm, with the main event beginning at 10:00 pm.

For those still hoping for a big in-person event, Universal Studios Hollywood is moving ahead with its annual EVE celebration, which is included with the price of park admission.

It is a park-wide celebration that begins at 9:00 pm and offers extended hours until 2:00 am.

Multiple "entertainment hubs" are being set up around the park, featuring live music and DJs.

The event is highlighted by a New Year's Eve countdown and fireworks display at midnight.

[There will also be a plethora of illegal fireworks shows by residential participants risking life, limb, and property to have a good time; don't expect local police to do anything about it. It's cold and they would rather stay in their cruisers and note the illegal activity from afar.] More

Green leaves brown rice porridge (vegan)

Green Moringa Leaves Rice Porridge (vegan)
Veggie Chef Heidi (101 Cookbooks)
The term life changing is not one to use lightly, but this moringa powder porridge recipe fits the bill.

It’s an effortless, one pot, green, nutrient-rich twist on an Asian favorite. Rice porridge is commonly referred to as congee.

This version incorporates a lot of chopped spinach, a lot, enough that the body will notice. If whole moringa leaves can be found, even better. Otherwise, the powder is available at the health food store.

Murungai Keerai Kanji (yummytummyaarthi.com)
Use an Instant Pot or in any thick-bottomed pot on the stovetop, which requires a little more babysitting. Similar to this Instant Pot Congee with Brown Rice and Turmeric, put rice into the pot, add water or broth or coconut milk and shredded coconut, walk away, and start daydreaming about toppings.

Lime wedge, goji berries, crushed kale chips, sesame seeds, toasted nori, pepitas, raw hemp seeds, almonds, or jungle peanuts... Tofu can be sliced thinly, drizzled with Braggs liquid aminos, and draped over the porridge. Sweet might be preferred, so add some prunes, dried apricots, or peaches, and add a little coconut cream on top. What leftovers can be brought to life in this morning dish originally meant to save leftover rice?

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup brown jasmine rice
  • 1/2 cup white jasmine rice
  • 4 tablespoons of moringa powder
  • 9 cups water or mushroom broth
  • 1 teaspoon fine grain sea salt
  • 1/4 pound+ chopped spinach
  • 6 chlorella tablets, crushed in m+p (optional boost)
  • 3 moringa drumsticks (interiors)
  • (optional) 1/4 cup of other quick-cooking items: quinoa, millet, French lentils, Job's tears, etc.
  • toppings as desired
  • tofu sliced thinly and drizzled with savory Braggs liquid aminos
  • 1/4 cup coconut shreds
  • 1/4 cup raw hemp seeds
  • 1/4 cup coconut cream or 1/2 cup coconut milk More

Thai and Khmer New Year's celebrations (video)

Khmer New Year Celebration at a Buddhist Temple in Cambodia
(Samuel and Audrey, 4/13/13) While wandering around in Battambang on our first full day in the city we noticed traditional Khmer temple music far off in the distance.

As we approached our guest house, it became louder. Naturally we explored a Buddhist temple on Khmer New Year (Cambodian New Year).

Inside of the temple we noticed lots of Cambodians celebrating with festive food and incense. Special fruit was prepared along with various kinds of dishes and sugarcane juice. Bowls were lined on a table where locals were giving rice (known as almsgiving to the Buddhist monastic community) to the local monks.

Children were laughing and playing, and we even spotted roosters feeding. We live for these kind of random travel moments, where we step outside of our guest house not knowing what kind of adventures we'll encounter.

For those interested in experiencing Cambodian New Year, it takes place April 13-15, which is the end of the harvesting season for farmers.

Sutra on the Characteristic of Not-Self

Ven. Ñanamoli Thera, Anatta-lakkhana Sutra: "The Discourse on the Not-self Characteristic" (SN 22.59); Ellie Askew, Dhr. Seven (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Right view leads the other seven factors.
Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One (the Buddha) was living in Benares, in the Deer Park at the Resort of Seers (Isipatana). There he addressed the meditators known as the group of five: "Meditators."

— "Venerable sir," they replied. Then the Blessed One said this.

"Meditators, form [this body] is not-self. Were form self then this form would not lead to affliction, and one could have it of form: 'Let my form be thus, let my form not be thus.' Since form is not-self, so it leads to affliction, and none can have it of form: 'Let my form be thus, let my form not be thus.'

"Meditators, feeling is not-self...

"Meditators, perception is not-self...

"Meditators, determinations [mental formations] are not-self...

"Meditators, consciousness is not self. Were consciousness self then this consciousness would not lead to affliction, and one could have it of consciousness: 'Let my consciousness be thus, let my consciousness not be thus.' Since consciousness is not-self, so it leads to affliction, and none can have it of consciousness: 'Let my consciousness be thus, let my consciousness not be thus.'

"Meditators, how do you conceive of it: Is form permanent or impermanent?"

— "Impermanent, venerable sir."

"Now is what is impermanent painful or pleasant?"

— "Painful, venerable sir."

"Now is what is impermanent — what is painful due to being subject to change — fit to be regarded as, 'This is mine, this is I, this is myself'"?

— "No, venerable sir."

"Is feeling permanent or impermanent? ...

"Is perception permanent or impermanent? ...

"Are determinations permanent or impermanent? ...

"Is consciousness permanent or impermanent?"

— "Impermanent, venerable sir."

"Now is what is impermanent pleasant or painful?"

— "Painful, venerable sir."

"Now is what is impermanent — what is painful due to being subject to change — fit to be regarded as, 'This is mine, this is I, this is myself'"?

— "No, venerable sir."

"So meditators any kind of form whatsoever, whether past, future, or presently arisen, whether gross or subtle, whether in internal or external [oneself or other], whether inferior or superior, whether far or near, must with right understanding as to how it really is be regarded as, 'This is not mine, this is not I, this is not myself.'

"Any kind of feeling whatsoever...

"Any kind of perception whatsoever...

"Any kind of determination whatsoever...

"Any kind of consciousness whatsoever, whether past, future or presently arisen, whether gross or subtle, whether in internal or external, whether inferior or superior, whether far or near must, with right understanding as to how it really is, be regarded as, 'This is not mine, this is not I, this is not myself.'

"Meditators, when a noble follower who has heard (the truth) sees things in this one, that person finds estrangement in form, finds estrangement in feeling, finds estrangement in perception, finds estrangement in determinations, finds estrangement in consciousness.

"When one finds estrangement, passion fades away. With the fading away of passion, one is liberated. When liberated, there arises the knowledge that one is liberated. One understands: 'Birth is exhausted, the supreme life has been lived out, what can be done is done, of this there is no more beyond.'"

That is what the Blessed One said. The meditators were glad and approved of his words.

Now during this utterance, the hearts of the group of five meditators were liberated from the taints by not clinging. There were six fully enlightened beings (arahants) in the world.

Guru Valeria: beautiful human "Barbie"

Kathryn Lamont, UnleashedFinance.com, Real life Barbie; edited by Wisdom Quarterly
"Human Barbie" is punched and strangled by men outside her Odessa home (Daily Mail)

I compose New Age operas.
Lukyanova believes success cannot be achieved by looks alone. This is why she works as a spiritual guru, and her biggest aim is to master the art of astral travel.

“Many people think you need only good looks to be successful, but that’s not true,” she said. “Only spiritual work can bring tangible results.” She says she’s a spiritual being not of this planet.

But Lukyanova isn’t averse to using her eye-catching good looks to encourage a “spiritual practice” and the ways of thought that promotes. As she explained to Vice, “If a nun starts talking about spirituality, will anyone notice her? No, no one will. But if a beautiful, inspiring young woman starts talking about it, many people will start thinking.”

She kicks off each day with meditation and yoga, followed by an “out-of-body experience.” Her fanbase doesn’t worry about the ins and outs of how she achieved her look, which she says was not surgery.

A documentary about her was done by Vice in 2013. Director Will Fairman said, “I discovered she was a New Age opera composer and gave seminars on spirituality, so she obviously had a few more strings to her bow than just being a tumblr girl.”

Lukyanova is a Breatharian, which means she does not eat or drink. Food and water are unnecessary for survival. Humans can subsist solely on prana, vital life force. Her goal now is to move to the US.

She believes in rebirth and has claimed that before she lived many lives as men. Not only peasants, she recalled to Vice, “In one of my past lives, I was quite a famous king.”

Sanskrit Vedas' advanced technology (video)

Ancient Sanskrit texts sound impossible, but modern technology is clearly evident
(Matrix Wisdom, June 12, 2021) Over 6,000 years ago the famous Sanskrit sacred texts of proto-India known as the Vedas ("Knowledge Books") described what sounds precisely like modern-day technology. However, although they mention other types of devices, they mainly refer to flying machines in ancient pre-India. How these space/sky vehicles maneuvered, what powered them, and the different kinds available are all mentioned in detail.

LIFE BEYOND 3: In Search of Giants. The Hunt for Intelligent Alien Life
(Melodysheep, Dec. 7, 2021) Who are the masters of the universe? Are we the only intelligent life form, or is someone else lurking out there?

For 60 years now we have probed the skies for signs of alien intelligence, longing for connection -- to no avail. But new ideas and technologies are beginning to change the game.

This is the third chapter in the Life Beyond trilogy: "In Search of Giants."  In this journey we will see how far we’ve come in the search of intelligent life, how that life might be communicating, just how advanced they might be, and what it would mean if we really made contact.

It might take thousands of years to make a discovery. But as long as the mystery endures, the search for giants will continue. It's in our blood to want to know.

NPR: Bisexuals? Putting the B in LGBTQ (audio)

Michelle Harven (1A, NPR, via SCPR, 12/23/21); CC Liu, Crystal Q. (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

I keep it hidden due to shame and fear, I guess.
A new Gallup poll found that a growing number of adults are identifying as LGBT. One in six Gen Z adults identified as LGBT compared to the around one in 10 millennials. The Gallup survey also found that more than half of LGBT adults identify as bisexual.

What the heck is LGBTQI+LMNOP?
Despite their large numbers, bisexuals are often overlooked and are still stigmatized by many inside and out of the LGBT community. They are far less likely than gays and lesbians to be "out" to the people in their lives.

So why is bi visibility such an issue? And what are the unique struggles of those who identify as bisexual?

Insight into biology of death: 'brain tsunamis'

A new study may lend credence to what happens during the biological and irreversible death of the brain organ.

Published in the Annals of Neurology, the study inspected spreading depolarization of the human cerebral cortex and provided a better understanding of how the brain responds to energy depletion.

The depolarization of brain cells is likened to tsunamis in how violent they can be, like sporadic waves overtaking the nervous system and causing destruction on a grand scale.

Prince Siddhartha is shown travelling, when he first sees old age, sickness, and death.
.
Although restoration of circulation is the primary goal in emergency treatment, researchers believe that understanding how the brain responds to energy depletion could help predict the time available for resuscitation "until irreversible damage" occurs in the brain.

"This potentially reversible, spreading wave typically starts 2 to 5 minutes after the onset of severe ischemia, marking the onset of a toxic intraneuronal change that eventually results in irreversible injury," the study states.

The methodology employed by researchers involved performing recordings with either electrode strips or electrode arrays in patients with devastating brain injury that resulted in activation of a "Do Not Resuscitate – Comfort Care" order. More
