New music(k) discovery: death metal twins

Oh no, AI slop trained on Evanescence?

Twin sister rockers Jackie and Jessica Parry
On Friday's "Stay or Go" segment of KLOS' (95.5 FM) The Heidi and Frank Show, there was a big surprise when power duo and twin sisters Dianthvs (dianthvsmusic.net, pronounced /die-ann-tuss/) broke out with a mash of grindcore and Evanescence vocals. One sister plays the guitar, the other is a drum impresario, and both sing. It's hard to believe so much sound and noise are coming from two dainty gals from Riverside. They will be playing at Revelry Brewing in Temecula on Aug. 1, 2026.

Dianthvs is a Southern California progressive metalcore band led by twin sisters Jessica and Jackie Parry. They fuse classical piano roots, moody atmospherics, and crushing heaviness (drums and metal guitar) into a sound that blurs beauty and brutality. Jackie is on lead vocals and guitar, while percussionist Jessica holds down the backing vocals and drumming duties.

Jake Paul to be beaten by heavyweight boxer

Netflix: Live bloodbath on Dec. 19th
(ESPN) YouTuber-turned-boxer "I beat Mike Tyson [who may or may not have been paid to take a fall]" Jake Paul will face former two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in a professional heavyweight boxing match on Dec. 19 at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, Most Valuable Promotions told ESPN on Monday.

The fight -- which will be streamed live on Netflix -- is scheduled for eight 3-minute rounds, and the fighters will wear 10-ounce gloves, the standard for heavyweight fights.

It's an about-face for Jake Paul, 27, who was originally slated to take on WBA lightweight champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis in an exhibition fight on Nov. 14, 2025. However, the bout was canceled after Davis was named in a civil lawsuit filed by an ex-girlfriend accusing the boxer of [testosterone poisoning,] aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Taking a dive for the money?

Breaking news: Fake Jake to get Real in the ring!
Instead of an exhibition against a hard-hitting pro boxer who campaigned at 130 pounds, Paul will now face a two-time heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist in a sanctioned professional boxing match who has fought as high as 256 pounds, over 100 pounds heavier than Davis [and much taller].

Paul has campaigned primarily as a cruiserweight with a 200-pound weight limit, although he weighed 227.25 pounds for his heavyweight exhibition fight with Mike Tyson in 2024.

Anthony Joshua is so good he has a wax figure in London

Call me a con-man to my face! - We said 'artist'
"This isn't an AI simulation. This is Judgment Day," Jake Paul said in a statement, "a professional heavyweight fight against an elite world champion in his prime. When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears, and no one can deny me the opportunity to fight for a world title. To all my haters, this is what you wanted. To the people of the United Kingdom, I am sorry. On Friday, Dec. 19, under the lights in Miami, live globally only on Netflix, the torch gets passed and Britain's Goliath gets put to sleep."

Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) is still a novice in the sport with no notable amateur experience and only 70 total rounds boxed as a pro since 2020. He'll take a massive step up from MMA fighters and journeyman boxers to face Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs), one of the hardest-hitting and most decorated heavyweights in the world with over 160 rounds boxed in his 12 years as a professional. DNA reveals victims of Mayan ritual sacrifice

Mexico Tulum ruins: beaches, cenotes, pyramids, archeological Mayan temples (Tripadvisor)

Mexico's new Mayan Train sparks controversy
The ancient Maya city of Chichén Itzá in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula has long been associated with human sacrifice, with hundreds of bones unearthed from temples, a sacred sinkhole (cenote) and other underground caverns.

A long-held misconception is that the victims were often young and female — an impression that has stuck in the contemporary imagination and become hard to dislodge even as more recent research has suggested that both men and women were among those sacrificed as well as children. A study published Wednesday (6/12/24) in the journal Nature adds unexpected detail to that more complex picture.

Archeologists discover an ancient Mayan city in the forest that's been hidden for 2K years

The new analysis, based on ancient DNA from the remains of 64 people whom archaeologists believe had been ritually sacrificed and then deposited in an underground chamber, found the victims were all young boys, many of whom were closely related.

Mayan Calendar is not this simple Aztec
“There were two big moments of surprise here,” said lead study author Rodrigo Barquera, a researcher in the Department of Archaeogenetics at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany.

“We were thinking, influenced by traditional archaeology that we would find, a non-sex-biased burial or mostly girls,” he said.

“And the second one [was] when we found out that some of them were related, and there were two sets of twins.”
Analysis of skeletons can only reveal so much

The lurid notion that the Maya only sacrificed young women or girls is largely a myth that originated from early and romantic accounts of Chichén Itzá’s sacred sinkhole, or cenote, said Prof. Rubén Mendoza, an archaeologist in the Department of Social Sciences, Behavioral, and Global Studies at California State University, Monterey Bay (csumb.edu). He wasn’t involved in the study but is an editor of a new book on ritual sacrifice in Mesoamerica [a name for Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, all of which are located in North America]. More

Valerie Bertinelli-Van Halen live, LA (4/15)

Look, Donny and Marie did it. So why can't we? - That's different! They were Mormons.

Look, Everyone! I'm a "cover girl" now!
Valerie Bertinelli-Van Halen isn’t one to hold her feelings close to the vest. The “One Day at a Time” TV star believes in the power of connection — connecting with fans to help her heal.

[After all, she lost her rockstar husband, the world-renowned guitarist Eddie Van Halen (shown above shredding on guitar), RIP, with whom she fathered and raised Wolfgang Van Halen].

Incest laws won't stop us (pagesix)
She is doing that through Indulge: Delicious and Decadent Dishes to Enjoy and Share, her cookbook. The New York Times bestselling author’s new book is a collection of 100 recipes to “nourish the body and the soul.”

She shares recipes for dishes like garlic confit LT, oven-“fried” okra, mangled animal guts in casing, and olive rotten dairy bites, spaghetti al limone, smelly patties with quick-pickled vegetables, cow limbs with bearnaise sauce, and chocolate peanut butter dates.

Twins? Inside Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertinelli's '80s romance (pagesix.com)
It's probably safe to say Valerie taught Eddie everything he knew about everything except guitar.
.
Eddie? Eddie who? (No you didn't, Dave!)
“It’s mainly a cookbook, but an extension of Enough Already,” Bertinelli said of her 2023 book. “I wrote that after my mother and Ed (Eddie Van Halen) died. They passed away a year and a half apart. I was going through a lot of grief and going through a marriage that wasn’t working. I was going through a lot.”

She said she didn’t love anything with her life. She felt like she was “drowning and had forgotten how to swim.”

Then, being Italian, she returned to the kitchen little by little. “I started writing recipes, and I started to get excited,” she said. “I was talking about food the way I had never talked about before.”

She’ll talk about her latest feeble attempt at fame as a chef and her struggles on a book tour that stops at All Saints Church in Pasadena at 7:00 pm Monday, April 15, 2024.

The Vroman’s-sponsored event is ticketed (minimum $41 with book). “This is the biggest book tour I’ve ever done,” she said.

“I can’t wait to meet everybody. Since my last book, I’ve had a great rapport with a lot of people in my social media community. I have really terrific people who follow me on Instagram and Threads.” More

Jesus had a twin brother, Thomas (video)

Religion for Breakfast, 9/14/23; Sheldon S., Seth Auberon, CC Liu (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Thomas: The Secret Twin of Jesus?
What did DaVinci think about Lord J?
There goes that whole "only" begotten son business, it seems.
But a "god" (deva), to be a god, needs to be "reborn among the gods" -- who live on many planes superior to the human plane -- and this is exactly what the Sanskrit term devaputra (Pali language devaputta) means -- "offspring of the devas" or, literally, "son of god."

The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas, not a Lost or Gnostic Gospel but thought of as one by some) is an extra-canonical [1] "sayings gospel." It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in Dec. 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. More

The contents of the Nag Hammadi codices were written in the Coptic [Egyptian] language. The best-known of these works is the Gospel of Thomas, of which these codices contain the only complete text. After the discovery, scholars recognized that fragments of these secret sayings attributed to [a koan-spouting Zen-like] Jesus appeared in manuscripts discovered at Oxyrhynchus in 1898 (P. Oxy. 1), and matching quotations were recognized in other early Christian sources. More
Thomas ("Twin") really was the doubting apostle
(ReligionForBreakfast) Sept. 14, 2023: Most scholars agree that Jesus [of Nazareth, aka Jesus Christ, "Y'Shua the Anointed One"] had a brother named James. But many ancient Christians thought he had another brother, an identical twin brother named [Jude or] Judas Didymus Thomas. Where did this belief come from? And what is its significance?

The Twin Towers did not collapse. They did not burn up. They were turned to dust. What machine causes "dustification"? That would be a directed-energy machine. Airplane fuel does not dustify. But a space-based laser weapon does. See QTZ1009 for the source of that weapon. This video is the full version (2.5 hours). See QTZ1005 for 30 minute version. [But our government would never do such a thing to us or itself! It would. A pretext precedes every war. Ever hear of Operation Northwoods?] Who is Dr. Judy Wood?

Twin sisters Christa and Cara careen after tragedy
Christa Parravani and her twin sister, Cara Parravani, did everything they could to set themselves apart. They wore different styles of clothes, pursued different careers, listened to different music. But when tragedy struck and Christa found herself without her other half, the lengths she went to to get close to her sister were beyond incredible. Christa is a writer and photographer. For more on her life before and after her twin sister, check out her memoir Her.

Should I be Liberal or Conservative? (test)

Wisdom Quarterly editors Seven and Ashley Wells

I want to be rich, so that makes me liberal. I am poor, so that makes me conservative. Anyone who wants to conserve this system is, by definition, a corporate-welfare-loving "conservative." Obama, for example. Anyone who wants change, equality, fairness and justice for all regardless of categories or labels we put on them from birth is radical and rises on the side of being liberal.

I am rich, so that makes me conservative. I want to be poor, so that makes me liberal. Anybody who wants to change this system is, by definition, some kind of human-welfare-loving "liberal." Bush, for example. Anybody who wants preservation, inequality, "fair and balanced" news and justice for some depending on labels and the categories we put them in is reactionary and falls on the side of being conservative.
    • But everybody wants to be richer!
    • Yes, but not everyone wants to be richer by making others poorer. That's a cruel delusion many people carry around. We can have a win-win cooperative world. Instead, many push for a win-lose competitive world. What does the conservative media feed us?
    • I can be rich and kind to everyone?
    • Yes, be rich; have compassion; think of yourself AND others! It's called "enlightened self-interest." We don't have to be like Cartman...or Stan.

Gisele Bündchen gets a year older

Gisele Bündchen -- Bündchen was one of Victoria's Secret Angels from 2000 until 2006. Since 2004, she has been the highest-paid model in the world and the 16th richest woman in the entertainment industry with an estimated $150 million fortune. Models Claudia Shiffer and Naomi Campbell have argued that Bündchen is the only true remaining "supermodel." And according to Forbes, she may become the first ever billionaire supermodel. And for all that, has she overcome suffering or all that can upset? Is age treating her more harshly as she sees her beauty fade and realizes that she is no closer to liberation?

Gisele Caroline Nonnenmacher Bündchen was born on July 20, 1980 in Tres de Maio, Brazil. Her parents are Vania Nonnenmacher, a bank clerk, and Valdir Bundchen, a university professor. She grew up in Horizontina, Rio Grande do Sul, with her 5 sisters including Patricia, who is Gisele’s identical twin. The part of Southern Brazil where Gisele is from has a large population of Brazilians of German descent.
