Stockholm Syndrome
: this disputed disorder in pop psychology is characterized by the tendency of hostages (captives) to develop a psychological bond with their captors [1, 2].

It is named after an attempted bank robbery in Stockholm, Sweden, that took place in 1973. Despite its prominence in popular culture, Stockholm Syndrome has not yet been included in the official DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders).
The DSM is the authoritative guide that decides (by vote) what insurance companies will and will not cover as legitimate mental disorders. It is used by clinicians and others for the diagnosis of psychiatric conditions used in the United States.
Psychologists generally consider evidence for this condition to be dubious or nonexistent [3]. Many famous examples of Stockholm Syndrome are either partly or entirely fabricated, including many details of the 1973 bank robbery that gave this syndrome its name [4]. More

OnlyFans, TV horrors: 'If it bleeds, it leads'

As America's most beloved holiday Halloween fast approaches (and adults prepare for all kinds of kink) and children dream of sugar and more sugar, years of television programming (mind control) inclines the mind to the morbid, gory, and unspeakable. This is the only time of year to even attempt to speak of such things. Horror in the movies is one thing; in real life, it's quite another. It isn't Halloween's fault. Nor can we blame Obon, Samhain, the Day of the Dead, or other cultural commemorations of the departed and all this ghostly, ghastly, and frightful.

(Farrell McGuire) April 3, 2026: The local news is a part of our day that most may not give much thought to. It's a mundane form of mainstream media only meant to inform and nothing more. Yet several incidents have occurred over the years in which case "normal" newscasts have gone wrong for horrible reasons. Today, let's explore a few of these dark cases.

The Buddha's father King Suddhodana

Men are dumb, Dad - I know. I❤️U.
It's easy to love mom, but what about dad? What has the Men's Movement done for males in this patriarchy? (There are feminist men?) In the U.S., whether or not to celebrate "Father's Day" nationwide is a matter of debate. In 1908, Grace Golden Clayton proposed a day to honor men who had died in a U.S. mining accident. It was rejected then.

But in 1909, Sonora Louise Smart Dodd, who along with her five brothers had been raised by a single father, attended "Mother's Day" in a church.

Men's empowerment hike on Father's Day
She then convinced the Spokane Ministerial Association to celebrate Father's Day nationwide [7]. In addition to Father's Day, International Men's Day is celebrated in many countries on Nov. 19th in honor of men and boys [8]: Father's Day

In the Pāli canon, there are only two discourses (sutras) that explicitly reference Suddhodana, the Mahāpadāna Sutta (DN 14) and in the verse prologue of the Nālaka Sutta (Sn 3.11). In each of these discourses, Suddhodana is represented simply as the Buddha's father and as a Sakyan ruler.

Good father had a bad Buddha who abandoned his newborn son?
(Buddha's Wisdom) The Buddha's son: the forgotten story of Rahula: Why did the Buddha abandon his newborn son, leaving him on welfare in flat in the winter with no schooling or support?

Afghan chieftain Indo-Scythia, Gandhara
Who is Prince Siddhattha's father, the Gandharan (Afghan territorial chieftain?*) King Suddhodana? In Theravada Buddhism (a major branch) — Suddhodana is recorded in the ancient Pali canon.

He was a Saka, Sakka, Shakya, Scythian, Sakiyan raja ("king," "leader," "head," "royal") in Kapilavatthu, the father of Prince Siddhattha Gotama, who became the historical Buddha.

He was the son of Sihahanu and Kaccana. His brothers were Dhotodana, Sakkodana, Sukkodana, and Amitodana, and his sisters were Amita and Pamita.

Maya was his chief consort. After her death, her sister Pajapati was elevated to that position (Mhv.ii.15f.; Dpv.iii.45; J.i.15, etc.)

Asita's visit to Suddhodana
When soothsayers predicted that his son Siddhattha had two destinies awaiting him, either that of a universal monarch (cakkavatti, chakravartin) if he stayed in the world or a universal teacher (Buddhahood) if he renounced it, he exerted his utmost effort to provide the prince with all kinds of sensual luxuries and hedonistic pleasures to hold him to the household life.

It is said (e.g., J.i.54) that when Asita, who was his father's [Brahmin] chaplain and teacher, visited King Suddhodana to see the newborn prince, he paid homage to the infant by allowing his feet to rest on his head. Suddhodana was filled with wonder and also worshipped the child.

I wish for you to be a noble warrior, my son.
Seven years later, at the annual Ploughing Festival ceremony, Suddhodana saw that the shadow of the jambu tree under which the child had been placed in the shade when he spontaneously went into meditative absorption (jhana, samadhi) did not move even as the sun traveled overhead. Then the child, seated cross-legged without moving, levitated in the air. So he again worshipped him (J.i.57f).

Life in the luxurious house of Saka
Twenty-nine years later, when in spite of all his father's efforts, Prince Siddhattha renounced and left behind the household life and took to practicing austerities in the East, Suddhodana sent a messenger/private investigator to find his son and see what he was up to.

The investigator returned with news that his son had died, owing to the severity of his penances (tapas). But Suddhodana refused to believe it, saying that his son would never die without achieving his spiritual goal (J.i.67).

When this was afterwards related to the Buddha, he taught the Maha Dhammapala Jataka, showing that in the past, too, Suddhodana had refused to believe that his son could have died even when he was shown the heap of his bones.

I failed as a father. My son left.
Seven years after that, when news reached Suddhodana that his son had reached enlightenment, he sent a messenger to Veluvana in Rajagaha ("Bamboo Grove" in Rajgir, where King Bimbisara reigned) with many others to invite the Buddha to return home and visit the seasonal capital of Kapilavatthu.

But when the messenger and his companions heard the Buddha teach, they renounced worldly life, entered the Monastic Order, and forgot their mission. This happened nine more times with different messengers.

On the tenth occasion, King Suddhodana sent Kaludayi (Sanskrit Kālodāyin) who had advance permission to join the Sangha on the express condition that he give the king's invitation to the Buddha.

The Buddha's family from Gandhara (not Nepal)
Kaludayi kept his promise, the Buddha consented, and seven years after having left home to embark on a massive spiritual quest, he returned home to visit Kapilavatthu [Kabul, Bamiyan, Mes Aynak, ancient Gandhara now modern Afghanistan, "Saka Land," the maha-janapada of the Shakya Clan in Central Asia?], staying in Nigrodharama. There, in reference to a rain shower that fell, he taught the Vessantara Jataka.
.
The next day, when King Suddhodana remonstrated his royal (noble, warrior) son, the Buddha, because he was seen "begging" (going on almsround) on the streets of Kapilavatthu, the Buddha told him that surviving on offerings was the custom of all buddhas. Hearing this, King Suddhodana became a stream enterer (sotapanna, the first stage of enlightenment).

Son, at 16, you shall marry the beautiful Bimba.
He then offered to feed his new teacher the Buddha, inviting him to visit the palace, where he entertained him. At the end of the meal offering, the Buddha further taught the king, who became a once returner (sakadagami, J.i.90; cf. DhA.iii.164f).
  • This was when the Buddha was reunited with Princess Bimba (Yasodhara) and his 7-year-old son Rahula, both of whom were "saved" in that they were inspired to renounce their worldly lives in the palace and take up the path-of-practice the Buddha taught as wandering ascetics. In no long time, they both became enlightened. Many Saka/Shakya/Scythian relatives were inspired to follow suit, join the Sangha (spiritual community), and make an end of all suffering.
The king then became a nonreturner (anagami, the third of four stages of awakening) after hearing the Maha Dhammapala Jataka (DhA.i.99; J.iv.55).

Suddhodana was the Bodhisatta or Buddha-to-be’s father in numerous previous births, but he is mentioned as such by name in only a few birth (jātaka) tales, namely:

Nazi's son rapes daughter, bears 7 children

You'd do it, too. I'm not the only one in the EU.
(Real Crime Archives) White father, a convicted rapist whose own father was a Nazi who fought for Hitler and was an alcoholic who abandoned his family, trapped his daughter in the basement for 24 years. He blamed cult for her disappearance, while leading a "normal" life above ground with his wife and family, as he began having 7 children with his daughter through incestuous rape, all to keep her under his patriarchal paternal power, he explains.

He says from prison that he is not the only man in Europe doing this. Look around.

The Joe Fritzl case emerged in 2008 when a 73-year-old man name Joe Fritzl named his daughter Elisabeth Fritzl (born 6 April 1966) as the mother of his daughter. Surely, sir, you mean your granddaughter? No, no, I know what I mean.

Joe informed investigators in the city of Amstetten, Lower Austria (Germany's neighboring country, where Adolf Hitler was born), that the mother was a runaway belonging to a cult. When she appeared at the hospital to explain her daughter's illness (never having seen sunshine), she explained that she had been held captive for 24 years by her own child molester, serial rapist father, Josef Fritzl (born 9 April 1935).

Joe Fritzl had sexually and physically assaulted, incestuously abused, and repeatedly raped and impregnated his daughter countless times during her 24-year imprisonment inside a small dungeon Joe built, concealing it an area of their suburban house cellar [1, 2].

The incestuous rapes resulted in the birth of seven children [3]. Three children remained in captivity with their mother, one died shortly after birth and was disposed of by cremation by Joe Fritzl [4], and the other three were brought up out of the dungeon to live with the family upstairs by Fritzl and his wife Rosemarie, claiming they were dropped off by their cult-member daughter Elisabeth, who was in fact still imprisoned just below her mother.

Joe Fritzl convinced his wife, her mother, and the authorities that they were foundlings each time, left at the doorstep by a daughter who could not care for them herself.

Fritzl was finally arrested four decades later by Austrian police on various counts of rape, false imprisonment, murder by negligence, and incest, one week after Elisabeth's eldest daughter, Kerstin, fell ill in the cellar and had to be taken to the hospital by Joe Fritzl himself, against his better judgment.

In March 2009, when Elisabeth unexpectedly showed up to court, Joe Fritzl pleaded guilty to all counts and was sentenced to life imprisonment in a special mental facility, at one point having to change his name due to the notoriety of the case. More

How to win friends: Can an app fix the "friendship recession"?
How to make friends and be an influencer
.
I have no idea why people follow me
Amidst what some researchers call a "friendship recession," apps and services have been proliferating to connect Americans. We hear from people who have already tried them or use them regularly to reflect on what about them has worked and hasn't.

TRANSCRIPT
HOST SCOTT SIMON: Many of the old places where friendships formed -- the office, houses of worship, maybe the VFW [Veterans of Foreign Wars, a.k.a. degenerate bars] -- may have become less central to people's lives.

Just react to things with opinions!
It's part of what's been called a friendship recession: Americans spending dramatically less time with friends than they did a decade ago. As Leslie McClurg of member station KQED FM [San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento] reports, a growing number of apps and services are trying to bring people back together.

BYLINE LESLIE MCCLURG: When Jen Hobbs moved to Oakland last summer, she assumed friends would come naturally at the coffee shop or after an exercise class, but six months in...

JEN HOBBS: And on New Year's, I was kind of reflecting on things, and I realized I still don't have any friends.

Talk about fitness on TikTok with a hot bod!
MCCLURG: She made it her resolution to fix that and downloaded every friendship app that she had seen advertised on Instagram. Some are simple, like "Bumble For Friends" (BFF: Bumble For Friends), which works much like the company's dating app.

But instead of swiping for lovers, you're swiping for pals. Others, like Timeleft [or Friend Cult], go further by matching users with like-minded strangers for a meal. [SOUNDBITE OF ARCHIVED RECORDING]

Mr. Beast, what's an "influencer"?
(Blood and Alibis) Deny everything? Ego and influencing can get way out of control. Woe.

Mr. Beast is the biggest influencer
An "influencer" has the ability to alter the attitudes, shopping behavior, or shopping decisions of others through knowledge, position, authority, or the because of an audience relationship.

This ability is either inherent to one's personality or is completely constructed by others for some benefit: social, personal, or economical [1].

The term "influencer" is used in media, business, religion, politics, and communication, referring to folks like social media influencers, podcasters, public speakers, religious influencers, writers, and newsletter writers who have dedicated followings [2, 3].

One writer defines influencers as those "who exercise influence over the organization and its potential customers" [4]. Another defines them as someone "who significantly shapes the customer's purchasing decision" [5]. According to another writer, influencers are "well-connected, create an impact, have active minds, and are trendsetters" [6].

What does every American want?
Just because someone has many followers does not necessarily mean that person has much influence over them [7, 8].

In contemporary usage, it means a social media influencer [9, 10, 11] or an online influencer [12, 13, 14] who builds a grassroots online presence through engaging content such as photos, videos, and updates.

This is done by using direct audience interaction to establish authenticity, expertise, and appeal by standing apart from traditional celebrities by growing a platform through social media rather than pre-existing fame [15, 16].

The modern term is commonly a paid role in which a business entity pays for social media influence-for-hire activity to promote products and services, known as influencer marketing [17].

As such, an influencer effectively acts as a modern salesperson or a marketer.  A 1% increase in spending on influencer marketing can lead to a 0.5% increase in audience engagement [18] for a company or corporation.

Types include fashion influencer, travel influencer, virtual influencer, content creators [19, 20, 21], and streamers [22, 23, 24]. More

How to Win Friends and Influence People
How to be an influencer? Keep talking until someone breaks your jaw like Jake? Read a book?

This classic self-help book written by Dale Carnegie came out in 1936. Worldwide, over 30 million copies have been sold since, making it one of the best-selling books of all time [1, 2].

Dale Carnegie had been conducting business courses in New York since 1912 [3]. In 1934, Leon Shimkin (Simon & Schuster) took one of Carnegie's 14-week courses on human relations and public speaking. He later persuaded Carnegie to let a stenographer take notes from the course to be revised for publication [3].

The initial 5,000 copies of the book sold exceptionally well, going through 17 editions in the first year [3]. In 1981, a revised edition containing updated language and anecdotes was released [4]. The revised edition reduced the number of sections from six to four, eliminating sections on effective business letters and improving marital satisfaction. In 2011, it was Number 19 on Time's List of the 100 Most Influential Nonfiction Books [5]. In 2022, a newly revised edition was published.

I know what people want (Carnegie)
Before How to Win Friends and Influence People, the self-help genre had other successes. Authors like Orison Swett Marden and Samuel Smiles had sold well with their self-help titles in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Dale Carnegie began his career teaching night classes at a NY YMCA, later expanding to YMCAs in Philadelphia and Baltimore [6]. He then taught independently at hotels in London, Paris, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and Baltimore, writing small booklets to go along with his courses [7].

When evolution gets us
After one of his 14-week courses, publisher Leon Shimkin of Simon & Schuster approached him [8]. Shimkin urged Carnegie to write a book, but he was not initially persuaded. Shimkin then hired a stenographer to type up one of Carnegie's long lectures and presented that transcript to Carnegie [9], who edited and revised it into its final form [10].

To market the book, Shimkin sent 500 copies to former graduates of the Dale Carnegie Course, with a note that pointed out the utility of the book for refreshing students with the advice they had learned [11]: 141.

Or just work out until you have a hot bod. See?
The 500 mailed copies brought orders for over 5,000 more copies, so Simon & Schuster had to quickly increase the original print order of 1,200 [11]: 142.  Shimkin also ran a full-page ad in the New York Times complete with quotes by Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller on the importance of human relations [12].

Originally published in Nov. 1936, the book reached the New York Times best-seller list by the end of the year and stayed on it for the next two years [11]: 141.

Simon & Schuster continued to advertise the book, relying heavily on testimonials as well as the testable approach the book offered [12]. More
