Working with wandering thought in meditation: Five tips given by the Buddha
(Beth Upton) All meditators have experienced wandering thought in meditation. Here is the advice of the historical Buddha on what we can do to overcome wandering thoughts -- or monkey mind -- when they arise. Read the sutra here: accesstoinsight.org/lib/a...
The Five Hindrances (to meditation) that obstruct calm and insight.
We're all Mahayana, Universalism, and we all love Holy Mother Kwannon, right JP?
(Asangoham) Vajrāyāna Buddhism, also known as Tantric Buddhism or Esoteric Buddhism, first developed in proto-India and later spread to China, Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan.
I'll be the pope, you all be my bishops.
Vajrāyāna Buddhism was first introduced to Tibet in the 8th century AD.
This makes it the last school of Buddhism to spread beyond India.
The main figure responsible for the introduction and establishment of Buddhism in Tibet was the Indian master Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche.
Padmasambhava arrived in Tibet in the 8th century at the invitation of the Tibetan King Trisong Detsen.
Padmasambhava spread the teachings of [Vedic Brahmanism-infused] Vajrāyāna Buddhism throughout Tibet, and it has been the dominant form of Buddhism in the region ever since.
The CIA says we'll be working together, Greta. - Yah, okay, and what about the climate?
.
Vajrāyāna Buddhism has its roots in Mahāyāna Buddhism.
Vajrāyāna, however, introduces the use of visualization, mantra, and ritual practices to achieve enlightenment in a single lifetime.
Vajrāyāna Buddhism uses visualization, or the creation of mental images of deities, mandalas, and other spiritual symbols, to access the wisdom and power of the deity.
This is known as deity yoga, and it is one of the main practices of Vajrāyāna Buddhism.
One main reason that this became a primary practice of Vajrāyāna Buddhism is because of the [indigenous] Bön religion, which existed in Tibet long before Buddhism arrived.
The Importance of Bön to Vajrāyāna Buddhism
The Bon Treasure Discoverer, Tibetan animism
Bön [animism, shamanism, black magic] is a religion that has been practiced in Tibet for over a millennium.
Today, it exists alongside Vajrāyāna Buddhism, and many of its beliefs and practices have been incorporated into Vajrāyāna.
Bön makes use of rituals and magic to contact and access the power of deities and spirits.
Bön believes in a spiritual dimension known as the dngos-po or "pure realm." This realm is believed to be inhabited by enlightened beings who have achieved spiritual liberation [or at least the Hindu version of it].
It is believed that by connecting with these enlightened beings through visualization and meditation, they can gain access to the wisdom and blessings of the pure realm.

The Satanic Philosophy of King Diamond and Mercyful Fate
(The Metal Mystic) Oct. 31, 2022. Welcome to the debut episode of The Metal Mystic, which analyzes the occult philosophy of some favorite metal artists from an Orthodox Christian perspective.
Mercyful Fate: The Early Years (metal documentary) 1981-1985
(Ruthless Metal) May 2, 2021. The Danish heavy metal icons Mercyful Fate formed in Copenhagen in 1981 after the dissolution of the early punk band Brats. And during a short span of four years, they changed the world's perception of metal. They released one EP (Mercyful Fate) and two full-length LP's (Melissa and Don't Break the Oath). They were fronted by the charismatic King Diamond who laid his falsetto vocals over the riffs of the dynamic duo of Hank Shermann and Michael Denner, while bassist Timi Hansen and drummer Kim Ruzz kept the beat. Let's take a deep dive into the early career of one of the greatest metal bands of all time.
This European guy, all modern and rational, makes a lot of sense to me: Hedonism, yeah!
.
Like LaVey, I'm a hedonist on stage w/my cross.
Today being Halloween, let's take a look at the Satanic philosophy of one of metal's most influential and enduring figures, the master of the metal macabre Danish King Diamond (born Kim Bendix Petersen) -- both with his original band, the legendary Mercyful Fate, as well as his subsequent self-titled solo band.
King has always been an outspoken proponent of Anton LaVey and the American hedonists known as the "Church of Satan." As one soon finds out, King Diamond holds his own unique spiritual beliefs.
What would middle-aged Hindus think of black speedmetal from King Diamond's Mercyful Fate? They like it but don't think Indians will understand [unless they're from Bangalore metal fest].

Undercover in a stolen phone market in India
(Karl Rock) June 22, 2023. MUMBAI (Bombay), India: Karl went undercover in a stolen cellphone market in India. This is where stolen phones might end up. Pickpocket gangs steal them and fence them here, along with old phones from electronic recyclers. Fake Chinese iPhones are sold here, too. Avoid shopping at these black markets. And avoid pickpockets with these practical tips:
Stay vigilant and be aware of surroundings. Pay attention to the people around. Stay alert in crowded areas, public transportation, tourist spots, and busy streets.
Keep all valuables hidden: Avoid displaying valuable items such as expensive jewelry, cash, and flashy electronic devices. Put them in a secure place like a money belt, hidden pocket, or bag close to the body. Or leave them behind hidden in a hotel room. More

Bizarre secrets about the sex lives of Native Americans
(History with Nanji) April 15, 2023. For the American Indian (Aboriginal, Native, Indigenous) people of North America, sex was not associated with guilt.
Hey, everyone, the Jesuits are here to help us.
The Wendat (Huron) are an Aboriginal people whose descendants live in four communities across North America -- Quebec, Michigan, Kansas, and Oklahoma -- and separately across the continent. Their ancestors of the 17th century became well-known in Europe because of the writings of Catholic Jesuit missionaries who lived with them, studying them, learning as much as they could in order for the Vatican to be able to crush, conquer, and colonize them.
"Kinky" sex lives of the Cherokee tribe🔥
(Essential White History V) June 25, 2023. In the heart of the Cherokee tribe, women were highly revered for their wisdom and abilities.
From a young age, Cherokee girls were taught how to cook, sew, and care for themselves and their families. They were also taught how to be heads of households, to farm and hunt to feed their families.
Males had different roles in society, such as being warriors or hunters, but the females of the tribe held more importance, as it was a matrilineal society.
Marriage expectations in Cherokee society were different from Western culture. Women were free to choose their own husbands. They could even practice polygamy if they wanted to.
However, it was common for young women to wait until they had finished their education before getting married.
The young men of the tribe would often bring gifts or hunt for food as a way of showing their love and respect for a particular woman. Europeans brought sexism, patriarchy, and male dominance.
According to a new genomics research, some of the initial arrivals occurred during the last Ice Age and shortly thereafter, in two different migrations.
People from the north coast of China [an easy trip along the coasts all along the way as Edward Payson Vining (1885) and Rick Fields (2022) showed] were among the earliest humans to arrive in the Americas, arriving in two independent migrations during and after the last Ice Age, according to a new genomics research.
We're related by blood!
Explorers might have arrived in the New World by a terrestrial route through an ice-free corridor [Bering Straits land bridge], although this was most likely not the initial migration.
The kelp highway theory is the polar opposite of the old "ice-free corridor" route.
The findings suggest that, in addition to the previously identified ancestral sources of Native Americans in Siberia, northern coastal China acted as a genetic reservoir that contributed to the gene pool.
(WQ) In addition to the early American scholarship of Edward P. Vining (An inglorious Columbus, 1885), Hendon Harris points to an article in American Heritage (April 1966, p. 9) by Robert Larson entitled "Was America the Wonderful Land of Fusang?"
The last paragraph of it reads: "Who will now revive the Hwui Shan controversy and gainsay the conclusion of Dr. Charles E. Chapman, the last American historian to write on the subject? ...Fusang was in America, presumably in Mexico... The evidence that it was...is almost overwhelming."

Cannabis abuse trends much higher in people who experienced childhood trauma
Artificial strains: too much THC, too little CBD
Young people are at a heightened risk of problematic adolescent cannabis [marijuana] abuse when they experience childhood trauma.
This is particularly true for kids who experience trauma between the ages 1 through 12.
Strikingly, these damaging experiences can range from witnessing parental drug misuse to enduring various forms of abuse.
Dr. Lindsey Hines, a psychologist at the University of Bath specializing in adolescent mental health, led this insightful research.
[And before him, Dr. Gabor Mate has been saying this for five decades, having worked with addicts and harm-reduction in Canada and now in the United States.]
The researchers considered a wide array of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) that could influence future cannabis use.
The researchers examined factors such as physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
I've had a tough, tough life (Elon Musk).
The study also focused on emotional neglect and parental substance use. Lastly, they studied instances of parental violence, mental health struggles, and even criminal convictions.
The researchers closely studied these childhood misfortunes and compared them with the frequency of cannabis use.
The participants fell between the ages of 13 to 24.
The data was self-reported. The participants ranged from individuals who never used cannabis to those who regularly used it during their teen years.
Definitive link between cannabis abuse and childhood trauma
The findings are concerning. Individuals who went through four or more ACEs were over twice as likely to frequently use cannabis in their teenage years.
Their counterparts experienced much fewer ACEs.
Teenagers with a history of parents abusing intoxicants such as alcohol were most likely to end up as regular cannabis users, as were those whose parents struggled with mental health problems. More

WARNING: This is neither the path the Buddha took nor the one he recommended. It does not lead to awakening or Buddhist enlightenment (bodhi and nirvana and the end of all further rebirth and suffering) but rather only to Vedic/Hindu samadhi (a wonderful experience often mistaken for final liberation or Buddhist moksha but far from it). This is also not Guru Nanak and Sikhism's dharma as taught in the West under the brand name Kundalini Yoga, a hazardous mishmash of Ashtanga Yoga limbs, fraudulent Yogi Bhajan inventions tailored to impress Westerners, and cultish nonsense not representative of the Sikh or Hindu religions. See the sex and money scandals of Yogi Bhajan and Guru Jagat as cautionary tales. This discussion of the Eightfold Path of Raja or Ashtanga Yoga within Hinduism, extending to esoteric Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhist practices, as these schools are very influenced by Brahmanism and Vedic Hinduism.
The "dark" and "divine" side of kundalini yoga
(Asangoham) The term yoga has its roots in the Sanskrit word yuj, which means "to yoke together, to
conjoin."
Hence, yoga implies a spiritual union of the individual consciousness with the all-pervading,
universal consciousness, or Brahman (Ultimate Reality behind all maya or "illusion"), according to the Upanishads.
In this way,
yoga is the empirical part of religion, says Gopi Krishna in his work, Kundalini: The Secret of
Yoga (3).
Of all the different yoga traditions and schools that developed in ancient Vedic times,
Kundalini Yoga [the Hindu not Sikh version] is considered to be the most powerful and therefore the most dangerous.
It is
part of the Shaiva Tantra system.
Kundalini is considered to be a form of sacred feminine
energy that lies dormant at the base of the human spine, called the muladhara, coiled like a serpent.
This is pure, formless energy which has immense potential if awakened. Shaiva Tantra calls
this "energy" or shakti, Mother Divine, or the formless aspect of the Goddess.
Swami Satyananda Saraswathi, a great master of kundalini yoga and author of
Kundalini Tantra says that although one may be generally aware of what yoga is, one requires some kind of awareness of what tantra is in order to appreciate the mysterious working of
kundalini yoga.
Tantra says that the range of mental experience can be broadened. With the help of the
senses, our mind can have an experience based on an object. There can be an experience
within the framework of time, space, and object. But there can also be an experience beyond
the framework of time, space, and object.
The second form of experience can happen when
the present mind expands beyond its given definitions and borders. When this experience
occurs, energy is released from oneself (Saraswati 6).
This concept is the tantric basis of kundalini yoga.
The dormant kundalini energy, when awakened, will rise in a spiraling motion up
through different energy nexus points in the body called chakras.
The literal meaning of chakra is
"circle" or "wheel," but in the context of kundalini tantra, it also connotes a vortex-like motion.
There are
many chakras in a human body, but the principal ones within the body are seven. And the highest
one, the seventh, is at the crown of the head.
The mind of a worldly person with base desires and passions moves in the muladhara
and svadhishthanachakras or energy centers situated near the anus and the reproductive organs respectively.
If one’s mind becomes purified, the mind rises to the manipura chakra, or the center
in the navel, and experiences some power and joy.
If the mind becomes more purified, it rises to the anahata chakra, or the center in the
heart, experiences bliss, and visualizes the effulgent form of the ishta devata or the "tutelary
deity."
When the mind is highly purified, when meditation and devotion become intense
and profound, the mind rises to visuddha chakra, or the center in the throat, and experiences
more and more powers and bliss.
Even when the mind has reached this center, there is a
possibility for it to come down to the lower centers.

Zen [Japanese, from the Pali word for "meditation" and "meditative absorption" or jhana, Chinese chan] is not just about what we do in the meditation hall, but what we do in the home, the workplace, and the community.
That’s the premise of the book Instructions to the Cook: A Zen Master's Lessons in Living a Life That Matters: how to cook what Zen Buddhists call “the supreme meal” — life.
It has to be nourishing, and it has to be shared. And we can use only the ingredients at hand.
Author Zen Master Bernie Glassman
Inspired by the 13th-century manual of the same title by Zen Master Dogen, the founder of the Japanese Soto Zen school, Instructions to the Cook describes the innovative business model American JuBuRoshi Bernie Glassman developed to revitalize a poverty-stricken section of Yonkers, New York.
