Reality isn’t what it seems. What if everything we experience is just a carefully constructed illusion the mind is producing?
[There is a "mind only" philosophy in Buddhism that says it is ALL maya. See Yogachara and Madhyamaka.] This video explores the hidden layers of existence, the illusions shaping our perceptions, and the truth that’s been right in front of us the whole time. Once we see it, there’s no going back.

What then is reality really?

(The History Lounge) USA.Join Kevin for a nostalgic look back at what summer was really like for kids of the 1970s. (Or skip to the death metal version). In the glorious days before cell phones and social media, North American kids experienced a level of freedom and independence that today's kids would just not understand.
Memories are modified every time we remember
Generation X children were the original latch-key kids. Our adventures began after a big bowl of sugary cereal (full of toxic acrylamides and synthetic flavors, colors, and preservative) in the morning and came to an end when the streetlights came on.
This video has us saddle up on a banana seat of the old Schwinn Sting-Ray for a visit back to the playground, community pool, and roller rink, ending the day with some night games in the neighborhood.
The world was winding down in preparation of an apocalypse (unveiling), the end of the Mayan Calendar, when a song arose that Timothy of The Tim Conway Show really fell for. We were all suffering through Rebecca Black's unexpected hit, but this was different -- no autotune, sassy, tongue in cheek, and if one were to squint and turn askew, cocking the head just so, Double Take was almost hot.
One summer Lana Del Rey covered Sublime's hit song "Doin Time" for her

LYRICS: "Hot Problems"
(Official single by Double Take "Hot Problems" on iTunes)
I'm so hot you'll have to deal with it!
Look at me and tell me the truth/ What do you do/ When people don't know/ What we go through?// They see my blonde hair/ Blue eyes and class/ But they don't know/ I have a really big heart// Please don't get me wrong/ I know that I'm hot/ Textbook perfection really takes a lot/ Weird guys call my phones// And girls call me names/ Like Miley said, "I can't be tamed"// Hot girls we have problems too/ We're just like you, except we're hot/ The world needs to open their eyes/ And realize/ We're not perfect/ And sometimes we lie// I've got the look/ I've got the butt/ But those things don't make me a slut// Boys call me stuck up/ Girls say I'm conceited/ On behalf of all hot girls those comments are not needed// Just cause I'm pretty/ I have to be dumb/ I don't care about which/ I just wanna have fun// People start rumors/ And say things about me/ Funny thing is I didn't go to the party// Hot girls we have problems too/ We're just like you, except we're hot (hot hot hot hot)/ The world needs to open their eyes/ And realize/ We're not perfect/ And sometimes we...// Hot girls we have problems too/ We're just like you, except we're HOT/ The world needs to open their eyes/ And realize/ We're not perfect/ And sometimes we lie/ Why oh why/ Can't you see/ You are all/ Just like me// We make mistakes/ And get in trouble/ Now you know our hot girls trouble// Hot girls we have problems too/ We're just like you, except we're hot/ The world needs to open their eyes/ And realize/ We're not perfect/ And sometimes we lie// Hot girls we have problems, too/ We're just like you, except we're hot/ The world needs to open their eyes/ And realize/ We're not perfect/ And sometimes we lie// Just kidding/ We're perfect.
The song's not ha ha funny, but something's funny about it. It's cheeky, ballsy, not good enough for the radio (except Tim's show on KFI AM at iheart.com), but it is amazing some better singers haven't done a serious version and gotten famous for it by now. Imagine Ke$ha and Lindsay Lohan, or maybe Nelly Furtado and Christina Aguilera. If autotune could fix Britney's vocals and producers could extract something useful out of Cher or FrankenMadonna, someone should have been able to mold these two rugrat frat brats and made them a pair a sorority would accept. It's summer, and the temps are high, so we're hot.
What must our parents have been
up to as summertime teens?
Feel free to share your 1970s memories in the comments so we can all be reminded of those great times when we were kids. (NOTE: As of Sunday, June 16th, early am, comments are occasionally shutting off automatically. YouTube has been contacted for assistance and hope to get this issue fixed ASAP). Thanks, Kevin #1970s#1980s#genx

Summertime and the living's not that hard. Rachel's on the telephone with Ross's card. All people in trance will agree, we're two apartments locked down like a girl's penitentiary.
Summertime, unofficially, it's Memorial Day weekend when we remember the dead in memory. Not the Vets; they've got their own day. But the Dead, like the ones from the 60s.
Sexy as a dead, sunburned bird
It was the summer of '69, and Lana wasn't even a glint in her father's eye. We had the plague, like the last one. No one was flirting, no one was hitting the springs. He was afraid of her, and she was afraid of him. And I thought, "What a great time forasubhameditation!"
Bodies are gross, but only when we look very closely and mindfully (attentively but dispassionately, watching while letting go). Otherwise, we get sucked into the illusion of beauty, attractiveness, longevity, and matter's ability to fulfill or satisfy. Things, like bodies, disappoint. That is the first sign of wisdom in the Four Ennobling Truths.

False History Revealed (Notre Dame)
This episode, "False History Revealed," explores an endangered church in Fall River, Massachusetts, Kolner Dom Cathedral in Cologne, Germany, and finally Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. It is said the fire in Notre Dame started by "an electrical short circuit," yet the electrical system had recently been completely replaced. In addition, the 200-year-old oak wood would be very difficult to get burning because it is a very hard wood. Nevertheless, it was a tragic event for Paris and the whole of humanity. We are witnessing the writing of a false historical narrative in real time. In conclusion, I present an old cathedral bell found in the Cologne cathedral that leaves us pondering who could have built such a bell.
What artist would ruin her art by telling anyone what it actually meant? It's as personal to me as it is to you...unless Maroon 5 discovers you on Flickr. Then it's as personal as Adam's agent says. Following interpretations not that of the artist! (Arkiharha/flickr)
The artist Arkiharha, Saara, writes in Finnish.
What is "art" but a statement, one transcending language? A flag should bear no words. Words, on the one hand, formalize ideas. Images, on the other hand, allow for free-form associations, eidetic, ripe connotations, sly symbolic suggestions, eerie emaciated thinking full of emotions...
See. See me. Who do you really see?
It's a different use of cognition, exploiting this or that hemisphere of the brain, if that theory of a difference holds any weight. We use both sides all of the time!
What it means to the artist is interesting, but what it means to the viewer is almost all that actually matters.
I'm a fat American on the Web. I search startpage.com and kuh-ching. I find it! My dream dating site for seniors -- Carbon Dating. Ooh, look at these elder honeys. What should I write? Hi, my is Joe Blow, and I've got lots of cash... This is funnier than the Finnish version.
Cry or don't cry. It's better not to cry, crybaby.
This is why artists tend to avoid defining their works. Why add a definitive interpretation that might wipe out other equally valid interpretations? It's "Zen."
Why ask me what I mean when we could all be asking, "What does it mean to me?"? Questions are only for those who question.
Is there any meaning in the ravings of artists and lunatics?
Is there any sense in the assertions of critics and passive lovers of art? I mean, what does "Pussy Riot" mean exactly? Nadia can explain, but people will think something else.
Even "Buddhist art" -- which often symbolizes a narrative or lesson more than existing for its own sake or for devotional abuses -- is what it is to the viewer more than the maker. To be sure, most makers have something in mind. But in the end, it's the art that meets the eye, the beauty that beholds it more than the beautybeheld by the eye that counts.
Despicable Me for all to see
I know! I'll become an "artist"! Then I can really live!
I saw a dead steer in the sun, worm oozing from its eye. I cried. My tears watered the desert. I took a death cross, set it in the sun, smoked, and let the worms win.
Girls night
out! But I met a guy. It's every gal for herself! Look at the time.
Where is she? Let's forget our pact and leave without her! You look
different in the morning.
