Hike to LA's Mount Disappointment (video)

San Gabriel Peak/Mount Disappointment
(Hike Los Angeles) This 3.8 mile roundtrip hike to San Gabriel Peak and Mt. Disappointment is perhaps one of the most perfect hikes in the Greater Los Angeles Area. It offers the chance to summit two peaks on one hike, has incredible views, contains historic sites, and offers a hiking experience from an ultra easy walk to a challenging strenuous climb. Hike to Mt. San Gabriel and neighboring peak Mt. Disappointment, meditation and brunch
Is there danger in the LA County wilderness?
It was time to greet Mother Nature. It is Navaratri (Nine Nights of the Mother Goddess Festival) after all. We joined a hike to scenic San Gabriel Peak and Mt. Disappointment (near mighty Mt. Wilson overlooking LA) via the steep sudden switchback Bill Riley Trail.
It was grueling, but everyone of all ages was keeping up. Until the guy who drank the night before fell to the wayside. His two female companions seemed to fall out, too, but recovered and caught up, being in constant radio contact with the hike leader.

The whole group meditated halfway back and had a short brunch afterward. This was not a hike for first-timers, with a legth of 6.25 miles roundtrip and a gain in elevation of 1,578 feet to a peak at 6,163 feet, overlooking the valley, foothills, and channel islands, mostly covered by clouds as if we were on an airplane.

We met at the Red Box Canyon Picnic Area parking lot next to the Haramokngna – American Indian Cultural Center, eaching bringing a minimum to two liters of water (filled at the fountain in front of the Center), electrolytes, sun protection (hat, scarf, sunglasses. It was for everyone's safety. We had carpooled with an optional yoga class that started at 6:30 am in Glendale.

MORE HIKES
Every Sunday a "Hike with Awareness" is available to all who dare to enter Mother Nature to enjoy being, mostly in silence 🔕, free of cell phones and music, noise and nuisances. A variety of trails in the local parks around Glendale are utilized, usually within a 30-minute drive from downtown Glendale. In the past this has included: The Angeles National Forest, Griffith Park, Verdugo Mountain (Library Brand Park), Malibu Creek State Park, Topanga State Park, and so on. Seasonal adjustments are made favoring shaded trails in the summer and sunny ones in the winter. Usually hikes are within an easy to moderate level of difficulty, selecting a route of about three hours hiking time. Start at trailhead or yoga stuido. More info at ashwinayurveda.com.

SPECIAL NOTE
This event is to enjoy the silence in Mother nature. Bring: HIKING shoes/boots (rather than tennis or running shoes), minimum two (2) liters of water, a snack, sunscreen/protection, electrolyte mix/drink, sunglasses, layers, and so on. Questions, just text or call (323) 702-1211.
