REAL history of Thanksgiving (KPFK)
What is the meaning of your regalia? - Each tribe, each clan, each individual is distinct.
This morning before the land acknowledgment in Los Angeles at the big vegan feast, KPFK 90.7 FM interrupted normal programming ("Rootwork") and played a series of Indigenous voices, explaining the true meaning of "Thanksgiving" by UrbanRebal. See KPFK Archives, 7:00 am, Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, to hear it before it is taken down in natural rotation. It will be up for streaming for 90 or fewer days. Here are some of the highlights.
After every killing of a whole village, European whites celebrated. This was the basis of the first "Thanksgiving," cheering the deaths of Native peoples -- Indigenous, Native American, First Nations people, the American Indians.
Pres. Abraham Lincoln declared it an official "American" holiday celebrating the deaths of the many tribes lost to European (Anglo, British, Spanish, French, American) ethnic cleansing and genocide (on the heels of Spain's mass murder spree in the Americas, particularly in Mexico.
He ordered 38 Lakota men to be hanged for "war crimes" after the Christmas holiday.
So you're tell me you believe Hebrews are entitled to the land of Israel...?
The Pilgrims and Wampanoag had a feast and party: The British "Pilgrims" (not on a pilgrimage but settler colonialists or "Colonists" like today's murderous Israelis in depopulated Palestine) were celebrating a bountiful harvest and got so excited, they shot off cannons. "Chief" Massasoit (Ousamequin) and 90 warriors came to investigate and were invited to eat. They stayed for three days playing games and sharing foods -- as mentioned in Mourt's Relation in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED? British colonists were celebrating killing off another village and feasted their murderous triumph with a Christian party, and one time Mourt wrote a page about a party that became the basis of the myth we celebrate.
Was the plague of disease the whites brought accidental? Records suggest sickly individuals were put off a European fishing ship in Maine, according to Wampanoag scholar Linda Combs (American Indian Airwaves, KPFK, 7:00 pm, 11/29/24)
