Classicist and Christian theologian Dr. Ammon Hillman says the historical Jesus took many entheogenic drugs as part of the mystery cult he formed with his very young apostles. This was in keeping with a long imperial Greek and Roman practice of mystery school initiations, like the famous Eleusinian Mysteries many great Western thinkers like Aristotle participated in for mystic visions, divine knowledge, and esoteric understanding.

The Eleusinian rites, ceremonies, and beliefs, like those of other "mystery schools," were kept secret on pain of death and consistently preserved from antiquity [6].
For the initiated, the rebirth of the Greek Goddess Persephone symbolized the eternity of life that flows from generation to generation, and they believed that they would have a reward in the afterlife [7, 8].
There are many paintings and pieces of pottery that depict various aspects of these Mysteries. Since the Mysteries involved visions and conjuring of an afterlife, some modern scholars believe that the power and longevity of the Eleusinian Mysteries -- a consistent set of rites, ceremonies, and experiences that spanned two millennia -- came from psychedelic/entheogenic drugs [9, 10].
The name of the town, Eleusis, seems to be pre-Greek and is likely a counterpart with Elysium and the Goddess Eileithyia [11].

ETYMOLOGY: Eleusinian Mysteries (Greek Ἐλευσίνια Μυστήρια) was the name of the "mysteries" [occult, esoteric knowledges] of the City of Eleusis.
The name of the City Eleusis was established before ancient Greece, likely related to the Goddess Eileithyia [12]. Her name Ἐλυσία ("Elysia") in Laconia and Messene probably relates her with the month Eleusinios and Eleusis [13], but this is debated [14].
The Ancient Greek word from which English "mystery" derives, mystḗrion (μυστήριον), means "mystery or secret rite" [15] and is related to the verb myéō (μυέω), which means "(I) teach, initiate into the mysteries" [16], and the noun mýstēs (μύστης), which means "one initiated" [17].

Who will it be, who will rescue the humans and gods (devas) from the blights of greed, hatred, and delusion? The world sleeps under the pall of delusion, and it is high time we awaken. But we can't rouse ourselves. Someone arrives to help. This special being was predicted long ago and named "Friend" or maitri. ThisMaitreya or Metteyya may be the origin of the Western world's "Messiah"). Might it be a woman? Ancient tradition seems to have been altered to exclude women in a worldwide sexist push that erased much of their contributions, leaving half the population as a sidenote. Indeed, there have been powerful women.
In Buddhist lore there is the great Prajna Paramita, a goddess personification of the "Perfection of Wisdom" and the Goddess of Compassion Kuan Yin, a Mother Mary figure for the worldwide Mahayana tradition, which accounts for 90 per cent of Buddhists today. In the past, in Early Buddhism, there was great recognition of the female enlightened ones:
Now the Teachings have been construed to say no in Theravada and Vajrayana traditions, but Mahayana holds out that there are many powerful female deities, the Taras, the dakinis,protectors (lokapala) and wrathful guardian spirits, and though no "Cosmic Buddha" like Amitabha or Vairocana are ever depicted as female, the caveat is always that a being determining to become a supremely awakened (samma-sam) buddha will transform into a male before achieving that ambition.
So many females and males take bodhisattva vows with the stated goal of delaying their own liberation (nirvana) to save all other sentient beings, as messiahs are won't to do. It may be a useful mindset if not an achievable goal.
But as the Dalai Lama once joked, "Any woman can become a buddha...so long as she becomes a man first." Why he thought this was funny, that we may never know. (Endemic sexism and androcentrism in an all-boys monastic club in the imperial Potala Palace?)
Nevertheless, none of us are really male or female but have the potential to express the best qualities of both. In the derivative Catholic/Christian faith, there may still be hope or recovering the Mother Goddess (Queen of HeavenAsherah, God’s Forgotten Wife, or Miriam, the Son-God's mother, a restored and reappointed Eve or Mary Magdalene. We can all see how openminded the God of those Abrahamic traditions is, so amenable to being talked into things like the divine rapport emphasized in Judaism, but we won't be holding our breath).
In this book the author describes "Ancestors’ Ceremonies" as practiced in the Taiwanese Catholic Church. The author’s point is to demonstrate how the Chinese symbolic universe made a deep translation of the "new" symbolic system represented by Catholic doctrine. At the same time the effort of the Catholic Church in order to adapt the Gospels’ message to the local situation built up a particular phenomenon that the author defined as cultural dialogue. It is this dialogic relationship the process that the author defines as Culture.

It is the goal of Buddhism -- to the extent that we set any goal but basic goodness or being true to our enlightened nature for its own sake -- is to experience the Buddha's awakening. The enlightenment of disciples is exactly like that of the Awakened One. The difference is all the Bodhisatta (Buddha-to-be) did in past lives to become a teacher able to realize and communicate the Dharma (the Truth) to the world and establish it so that it keeps liberating others even after his own liberation. In just the same way, one might speak of an "original Christianity" where being Christed (dying to oneself and being born again) is the goal, as Dr. DC Ammon Hillman speaks of in the use of "mysteries" as mystery cults had been doing for millennia. No one intended to found a "religion" but only to point out the path-of-practice for advancing to the heavens or making an end of all rebirth and suffering here and now.
Jews and Judaism rejects the belief that Jesus [actual name "Yeshua ben Yusuf of Nazareth"] was the long awaited Messiah [Buddhism's Maitreya, or a political rebel arrived to overthrow imperial Roman rule, according to Dr. Reza Aslan], arguing that Jesus did not fulfill messianic prophecies, was not lawfully anointed [though "anointed" actually comes from the Greek kristos, which is a means of ingesting a psychedelic/entheogenic drug by pressing and holding an anointed cloth against the open skin to take things ("dotes") like snake venom or entheogenic compounds in the cult pharmacopeia through the skin followed by an antidote, as Dr. Hillman goes to great pains to explain] and was neither divine nor resurrected [but rather realized all humans have divine potential and had the audacity to tell them that, because in that sense we are all GOD, and his followers bribed Roman soldiers to cut him down during his crucifixion long before anyone dies from this special form of Roman humiliation and torture reserved for political crimes (trying to foment an insurrection against Roman rule, explains Dr. Aslan). Jesus the Christ would then mean "Yeshua the Anointed One."]
