Weird Science: Cosmos, aliens, clowns

Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte is set to become the seventh space tourist (a clown in space, if you will)...On the menu for the latest edition of Weird Science: Cosmic cannibals, a presidential alien abduction, and clowns in space. The Andromeda galaxy, our nearest neighbor in space, turns out to have a nasty appetite.

Using a telescope scan, astronomers have found evidence of Andromeda's galactic meals. From the AP: "What we're seeing right now are the signs of cannibalism," said study lead author Alan McConnachie of the Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics in Victoria, British Columbia. "We're finding things that have been destroyed...partly digested remains." Earth's galaxy, the Milky Way, is next on Andromeda's snack list. John Dubinksi, co-author of the project, says the two galaxies are headed toward each other at a rate of 75 miles per second. But not to worry: We won't be dinner for another few billion years.

Back on Earth, a U.S.-Australian research team has discovered the coldest, driest, calmest place on the planet. The spot, known only as "Ridge A," is located on the Antarctic Plateau. From LiveScience: "It's so calm that there's almost no wind or weather there at all," said study leader Will Saunders.

I hear Venus is beautiful this time of year: Reuters is reporting that Miyuki Hatoyama, Japan's next first lady, claims she was abducted by aliens and taken to Venus. Japan's new first lady on Spirituality



Miyuki Hatoyama is a free spirit who likes to "eat the sun" and says she's been to Venus. She met Tom Cruise in a former life, when he was Japanese.

SEOUL - She's a quasi political player, an eccentric former entertainer whose intense spirituality is ripe for tabloid fodder. She claims she knew actor Tom Cruise in a former life and once visited the planet Venus in a triangular spaceship.

Miyuki Hatoyama, the wife of newly elected Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, is a free-spirited woman whose views are drawing Western attention since her husband's Democratic Party of Japan swept into power in a historic leadership change last weekend.

The 66-year-old Hatoyama, a former singer-dancer in an all-female theatrical troupe and the ex-wife of a Japanese restaurateur in California, met the new prime minister, now 62, while he was studying engineering at Stanford University.

In Japan, she established herself as a "life composer" or lifestyle consultant who makes her own clothes, including a dress fashioned from hemp coffee bags. On the campaign trail, she demonstrated a passable Michael Jackson moonwalk.

Despite her recent high profile, few Japanese know much about her. Still, she has been busy.

She has written several books, including "Top of Form Bottom of Form Miyuki Hatoyama's Spiritual Food" and "Miyuki Hatoyama's Have a Nice Time."

And there was a collection of celebrity interviews titled "Amazing Events I Have Encountered" in which Hatoyama discussed an extraterrestrial jaunt she says she took during her first marriage.

"While my body was sleeping, I think my spirit flew on a triangular-shaped UFO to Venus," she said. "It was an extremely beautiful place and was very green."

Her book editor, Shunsuke Tsuchiya, said in an interview with The Times that Hatoyama was misunderstood. He said the incident "happened while she was sleeping. It was just a vivid dream."

Tsuchiya described Hatoyama as a very social and straightforward woman with a wide range of interests, including spirituality.

"She does tend to like spiritual topics. She says things like, 'If you're with me, it won't rain.' She can be misunderstood. When you see what she has said in writing, it might be surprising." More>>

Tom Cruise was Japanese in Past Life



During one program, Japan's future first lady Miyuki Hatoyama claimed she became friends with Hollywood actor Tom Cruise [the famous Scientologist, also thought by many to be more alien than human, who married Geisha Katie Holmes, and inexplicably named their daughter Suki] after meeting him in a previous incarnation.

"He was Japanese in his past life, and we were together so when I see him, I will say, 'Hi. It's been a long time,' and he will immediately understand," 66-year-old Miyuki explained.

Her husband, future Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, the grandson of a former prime minister, is expected to be confirmed as the country's next leader on September 16, 2009. His Democratic Party of Japan toppled the Liberal Democratic Party in last week's vote, ending an unbroken stint of more than 50 years in power. Source

The new first lady of Japan has described receiving a visit from a UFO and meeting Hollywood actor Tom Cruise in a past life.

Miyuki Hatoyama and her incoming Prime Minister husband Yukio Hatoyama have been propelled into the global media spotlight by his sensational [unex-pected] election win. Mr. Hatoyama, nicknamed "the alien," scored a historic victory on Sunday, booting the ruling party out of office for the first time since 1955.

His wife has spoken publicly of an apparent alien visit, and said she was taken to a "beautiful place" two decades ago.

"While my body was asleep, I think my soul rode on a triangular-shaped UFO and went to Venus," she wrote in a book called Very Strange Things I've Encountered. Her then-husband told her it was probably a dream, but she said she thinks her current spouse, Prime Minister to be Hatoyama, would not have been so dismissive.

Mrs. Hatoyama cuts a flamboyant figure in the Japanese media. She has worked as a cookery writer and an actress and often appears on television chat shows.... Source

TOKYO - Japan's next prime minister might be nicknamed "the alien," but it's his wife who claims to have had a close encounter with another world. "While my body was asleep, I think my soul rode on a triangular-shaped UFO and went to Venus," Miyuki Hatoyama, the wife of premier-in-waiting Yukio Hatoyama, wrote in a book published last year.

"It was a very beautiful place and it was really green."

Yukio Hatoyama is due to be voted in as premier on September 16 following his party's crushing election victory over the long-ruling Liberal Democratic Party on Sunday. Miyuki, 66, described the extraterrestrial experience, which she said took place some 20 years ago, in a book entitled Very Strange Things I've Encountered.

When she awoke, Japan's next first lady wrote, she told her now ex-husband that she had just been to Venus. He advised her that it was probably just a dream. "My current husband has a different way of thinking," she wrote. "He would surely say 'Oh, that's great!'"

Yukio Hatoyama, 62, the rich grandson of a former prime minister, was once nicknamed "the alien" for his prominent eyes. Miyuki, also known for her culinary skills, spent six years acting in the Takarazuka Revue, an all-female musical theater group. She met the U.S.-educated Yukio while living in America. Source
