Happy National Barbie Doll Day

Nordic German propaganda? OH MY!!!!
Throw on some Avenged Sevenfold or Aqua — because today, March 9, is National Barbie Day! In 1959, an 11-inch-tall German bombshell [adult toy Kewpie doll named Bild-Lilli*] made her debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York.

Designed by Ruth Handler, the co-founder of Mattel Inc., Barbie was created to allow girls to imagine what their lives could be like in the [feminist] future.

German sex worker doll Bild-Lilli

I was born to be the real life Barbie.
She’s had a slew of careers, from registered nurse to astronaut. And she’s done it all with a companion, usually a fembot boytoy called Ken.

Barbie was a single lady for all of two years. But in 1961, overwhelming demand caused Handler to release a boyfriend for her — a softly gendered Ken boy.

Jane Goodall Barbie and Bobo
(The verdict’s out if he’s ever going to put a ring on it so we can have a Matrimonial White Wedding Barbie and a dangerous Divorced Barbie with seething contempt for the patriarch who put her on the path to homemaker when she was doing so well in the world).

On National Barbie Day, pink-blooded Americans celebrate all things Barbie.

History of National Barbie Day

Hey, White Grrl, need some hairspray?
Barbie is simply iconic. There is nothing that comes close to the spectrum of emotions that are conjured by the girl doll. She is perceived uniquely, of course, by every individual who has ever played with her or owned a clone of her as a slave owner might possess a coveted piece of plastic to sell later for profit. What are we teaching kids?

Yah, I vuz made 4 German men
Barbie was inspired by Lilli, a German adult doll, which had sexy and misogynistic attributes and had a more “adult” appeal.
From this brutish idea, the co-founder of Mattel toy company Ruth Handler became inspired to create a doll who was a grown woman.

Mexican Conquest Barbie
It had been in 1956, while on vacation with her family, that Handler first came across the adult sex symbol Lilli doll. She noticed how enamored her 15-year-old daughter Barbara (Babs, Barb, Barbie) was.

Before the creation of capitalist bonanza Barbie, most dolls were either infantilized babies or children. Handler’s vision was to create a doll that had a grown female’s anatomy without all the naughty bits children have been searching for ever since under her and Ken's cute outfits. More

World Brain Day: the 'Buddha's Brain'

Buddha's Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love & Wisdom
is an Audible audiobook (unabridged) by Dr. Rick Hanson, PhD. He is the author and narrator and has 4.7 out of 5 stars with 1,984 ratings.

Change your brain, change your life with this essential classic from New York Times bestselling author Dr. Hanson—now celebrating 15 years in print with more than 500,000 copies sold.

Great teachers like the Buddha, Jesus, Moses, Mohammed, and Gandhi were all born with brains built essentially like anyone else’s—and then they changed their brains in ways that changed the world.

Neuroscience now reveals how the flow of thoughts actually sculpts the brain. More and more, we are learning that it’s possible to strengthen positive brain states. By combining breakthroughs in science with insights from thousands of years of mindfulness (sati) practice, we too can shape our own “Buddha’s Brain” for greater happiness, love, and wisdom.

Buddha’s Brain draws on evidence-based neuroscience to show how to stimulate our brain for more fulfilling relationships, a deeper spiritual life, and a greater sense of inner confidence and self-worth.

Using guided meditations and mindfulness exercises, readers learn how to activate the brain states of calm, joy, and compassion instead of worry, sorrow, and anger. Most importantly, they will foster positive psychological growth that will literally change the way we live our day-to-day life.

This book provides an essential intersection of psychology, neurology, and contemplative practice, and is filled with practical tools and skills that anyone can use every day to tap into the unused potential of the brain and rewire it over time for greater well-being.

Black in America: Juneteenth 2025

If Jesus Christ (Saint Issa in India) were Black from Northern Africa (Egypt/Palestine)
Juneteenth has its own flag after many years of quiet celebration in the USA

What is "Juneteenth"?
Cultural riches hidden from us all
Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the US celebrated annually on June 19th to commemorate the ending of legal slavery in the United States.

The holiday's name, first used in the 1890s, is a portmanteau of the words "June" and "nineteenth," referring to June 19, 1865, the day when Major General Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War [8, 9].

In the Civil War period, slavery was brought to an end in various areas of the United States of America at different times. Many enslaved Blacks in the South escaped, demanded wages, stopped work, or even took up arms against the Confederacy of slave states.

We were lied to by the US gov't about Blacks
In January 1865, the U.S. Congress finally proposed the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution for the national abolition of slavery.

By June 1865, almost all enslaved persons had been freed by the victorious Union Army or by state abolition laws. When the national abolition amendment was ratified in December, the remaining enslaved people in Delaware and in Kentucky were freed.

Early Juneteenth celebrations date back to 1866, at first involving church-centered community gatherings in Texas. They spread across the South among newly freed African-Americans and their descendants and became more commercialized in the 1920s and 1930s, often centering on a food festival.

One Day, Everyone Will Have
Participants in the Great Migration brought these celebrations to the rest of the country. During the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, these celebrations were eclipsed by the nonviolent determination to achieve civil rights but grew in popularity again in the 1970s with a focus on African-American freedom and African-American arts.

Beginning with Texas by proclamation in 1938, and by legislation in 1979, every U.S. state and the District of Columbia has formally recognized the holiday in some way.

Juneteenth is also celebrated by the Mascogos, descendants of Black Seminoles who escaped from slavery in 1852 and settled in Coahuila, Mexico [10].

World Oceans Day 2025 (The Beach)

World Oceans Day 2025: Protecting the waters that give this Earth life (Earth.com)
I never really think about the ocean. It's just here.
Someday, maybe on June 8th, it will be World Ocean Day. Then people will begin to realize our whole way of life is made possible by the oceans.

Trees give us so much, and we can see them. The ocean with all its plankton, water cycle, and underwater forests gives us more, but we cannot see it.

Corporations pollute, and we clean it up.
We might live on chlorella, spirulina, Irish moss, and seaweed -- nourished by all the salts (minerals) of the earth without knowing it -- yet never think to thank the seas from the sand at the foot of the oceans.

The United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) is halfway through. However, the UN Sustainable Development Goals on life below water (SDG14) remains the most underfunded goal.
World Ocean Day
What a wonder the ocean
What would mermaids say?
This World Oceans Day, join us as we celebrate the ocean's essential wonder -- from all the wonders it consists of to the wonder it ignites. The ocean's wonder is what draws us in and drives our urge to protect it. Wonder is the foundation of scientific knowledge, the allure behind exploration, the curiosity that drives innovation, and the seed of traditional wisdom.

The act of wondering serves to remind us that we are part of something bigger. It wakes us up to our inherent connection to this earth and to each other, expands our understanding of what is possible, empowers innovation, and prioritizes decision-making for collective wellbeing.

While the ocean sustains our planet, wonder sustains our humanity. If the warnings haven't changed us, wonder is what will. More: United Nations World Oceans Day
