Magic and Mystery in Tibet
Alexandra David-Neel, 1886
Western author Alexandra David-Neel has garnered 4.5 out of 5 stars with 160 ratings (and reviews). This is the Number 1 best seller in Tibet travel guides.

For centuries Tibet has been known as the last home of mystery [excluding the even more mysterious Bhutan, Sikkim, and to some extent Nepal], the hidden, sealed land, where ancient mysteries still survive that have perished in the rest of the Orient (Asia).

Many people have written about Tibet and its secret lore, but few have actually penetrated it to learn its ancient wisdom. Among those few was Madame Alexandra David-Neel, a French Orientalist.

A practicing Western Buddhist, a profound historian of religion, and linguist, she actually lived in Tibet for more than 14 years.
  • She had the great honor of being received by the 14th Dalai Lama;
  • she studied philosophical Buddhism and Tibetan Tantra at Tibet's great centers;
  • she meditated in lonely caves and on wind-swept winter mountains with yogi hermits; and
  • she witnessed forbidden corpse-magic in the forests.
  • Her experiences are unique.
The Secret Oral Teachings in Tibetan Buddhist Sects
Magic and Mystery in Tibet tells the story of her experiences on the Rooftop of the World, among lamas and magicians.

It is neither a travel book nor an autobiography but a study of psychic discovery, a description of the occult and mystical theories and psychic training practices of Tibet.

She tells of great sages and sorcerers that she met, of the system of monastic education, the great teachers and their disciples, Tibetan folklore about their spiritual athletes, reincarnation (rebirth) and memory from previous lives.

She also discusses elaborate magical rites to obtain the siddhis (supernormal powers), the horrible necromantic magic of the pre-Buddhist Bonpa shamas (Bon shamans), mental visualization exercises to create disembodied thought forms (tulpas), visions, strange phenomena derived from physical yoga postures, control of the body-heat mechanism (tumo), breathing exercises; sending “messages on the wind,” and much similar material.

An unusual aspect of Madame David-Neel’s book is that she herself experienced many of the phenomena she describes, yet she describes them with precision and in a matter-of-fact manner, permitting the reader to draw his own conclusions about validity, interpretation in terms of psychology, and value.

Particularly interesting for the modern experiencer are her detailed instructions for tumo (the yoga of heat control) and the creation of thought projections. More

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Author becomes an adept in Tibet, 1933
At the age of 18, Alexandra David-Néel had already visited England, Switzerland, and Spain on her own, and she was studying in Madame Blavatsky's Theosophical Society.

"She joined various secret societies – she would reach the thirtieth degree in the mixed Scottish Rite of Freemasonry – while [both] feminist and anarchist groups greeted her with enthusiasm...

"Throughout her childhood and adolescence, she was associated with the French geographer and anarchist Elisée Reclus (1820–1905). This led her to become interested in the anarchistic ideas of the time and in feminism, that inspired her to publish Pour la vie (For Life) in 1898.

"In 1899, she composed an anarchist treatise with a preface by Reclus. Publishers did not dare to publish the book, though her friend Jean Haustont printed copies himself and it was eventually translated into five languages."

In 1891, she visited India for the first time and met her spiritual preceptor, Swami Bhaskarananda Saraswati of Varanasi [7].

She was 21 years old when she converted to Buddhism in 1889, according to Raymond Brodeur, which she noted in her diary published under the title La Lampe de sagesse (The Lamp of Wisdom) in 1896. More

The Buddha: magic, ESP, miracles (sutra)

Kevatta (Kevaddha) Sutta: What the Buddha was like
A Central Asian king, Scythia
(DN 11) Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One (the Buddha) was staying at Nalanda in Pavarika's mango grove.

Kevatta the householder approached the Blessed One, bowed, and sat respectfully to one side. Sitting there he said:

"Venerable sir, this [city of] Nalanda is powerful, both prosperous and populous, filled with people who have confidence (faith) in the Blessed One. It would be good if the Blessed One were to direct a monastic to display a miracle of psychic power from his superior human state so that Nalanda would to an even greater extent have confidence the Blessed One."

When that was said, the Buddha said this to the householder:

"Kevatta, I don't teach the monastics in this way: 'Come, monastics, display a miracle of psychic power to the lay people [Buddhists] clad in white.'"

A second time and third time, Kevatta the householder repeated his request.

"Kevatta, there are these three miracles which I have declared after having directly known and realized them for myself. What are they? They are:
  1. the miracle of psychic power,
  2. the miracle of telepathy, and
  3. the miracle of instruction.
The Miracle of Psychic Power
Supernormal: Science (Dr. Radin)
"What is the miracle of psychic power? There is the instance of a disciple who wields manifold psychic powers.
  • Having been one, he becomes many.
  • Having been many, he becomes one.
  • He appears, and he vanishes.
  • He goes unimpeded through walls, ramparts, and mountains as if moving through space.
  • He dives in and out of the earth as if it were water. He walks on water without sinking as if it were dry land.
  • Sitting cross-legged, he flies through the air like a winged bird.
  • With his hand he touches and strokes even the sun and moon [Surya and Soma], so mighty and powerful.
  • He exercises influence with his body even as far as the brahma worlds.
The power to carve or melt stone?
"Then someone who has confidence and conviction in him sees him wielding manifold psychic powers... exercising influence with his body even as far as the brahma worlds. He reports this to someone who has no confidence and no conviction, saying to him, 'Isn't it awesome, isn't it astounding, how great the power, how great the prowess of this wandering ascetic? Just now I saw him wielding manifold psychic powers... exercising influence with his body even as far as the brahma worlds.'

"Then the person without confidence, without conviction, might say to the person with confidence and conviction: 'Sir, there is a charm called the Gandhari Charm by which the ascetic wielded manifold psychic powers... exercising influence with his body even as far as the brahma worlds.'

"What do you think, Kevatta? — Isn't that what the one without confidence, without conviction, would say to the one with confidence and conviction?"

"Yes, venerable sir, that's just what one would say!"

"Seeing this drawback to the miracle of psychic power, Kevatta, I feel horrified, humiliated, and disgusted with the miracle of psychic power.

The Miracle of Telepathy

The Buddha's grace and charm
"What is the miracle of telepathy? There is the instance of a wandering ascetic who reads the minds, mental events, thoughts, and ponderings of other beings, other individuals [saying], 'Such is your thinking. Here is where your thinking is. Thus is your mind.'

"Then someone who has confidence and conviction in him sees him reading the minds... of other beings... He reports this to someone who has no confidence or conviction, saying, 'Isn't it awesome, isn't it astounding, how great the power, how great the prowess of this wandering ascetic? Just now I saw him reading the minds... of other beings...'

Real Magic (Dr. Dean Radin)
"Then the person without confidence and conviction, might say to the person with confidence and conviction: 'Sir, there is a charm called the Manika Charm by which the ascetic read the minds... of other beings...'

"What do you think, Kevatta? — Isn't that what the one without confidence and conviction would say to the one with confidence and conviction?"

"Yes, venerable sir, that's just what one would say!"

"Seeing this drawback to the miracle of telepathy, Kevatta, I feel horrified, humiliated, and disgusted with the miracle of telepathy.

The Miracle of Instruction
'Tis better to teach the Path to pure freedom
"What is the miracle of instruction? There is the instance of a wandering ascetic who instructs in this way: 'Direct your thought in this way. Do not direct it in that way. Attend to these things in this way. Do not attend to them in that way. Let go of this. Enter and remain in that.'

"This, Kevatta, is called the miracle of instruction.

"Furthermore, there is the instance of a Wayfarer (Tathagata, the Buddha) appears in the world, worthy and rightly awakened by his own efforts. He teaches the Dharma admirable in the beginning, admirable in the middle, admirable in the end.

"He proclaims the pure life [of wandering asceticism, monasticism] both in its particulars and in its general essence, flawless, surpassingly pure.

"A householder or householder's offspring, hearing the Dharma, gains conviction in the Wayfarer and reflects, 'Household life is cramped, a dust laden path. The gone forth [from the home to the left home] life is like the open air.

Conscious Universe (Dr. Radin)
"It is difficult living at home to practice the pure life totally flawless, totally pure, shining like a polished shell. What if I were to shave off my hair, put on saffron robes, and go forth from the home life to the left home life?'

"After some time, that person abandons a mass of wealth, large or small, leaves a circle of relatives, large or small, shaves off hair, puts on saffron robes, and goes forth from the home to the left home life.

"When one has thus gone forth, one lives restrained by the rules of the Monastic Code (Vinaya), seeing danger in even the slightest fault.

"Consummate in virtue, one guards the doors of the senses, is possessed of mindfulness and alertness (vigilance and clear comprehension, sati-sampajanna), and is content. More

What is the "Gandhari Charm"?

Maitreya Buddha as Central Asian king, Himalayas
Gandhāra
is a person's name, a place (country, mahajanapada) in which in one Jataka Tale the Bodhisatta was reborn as its king, the name of a mountain in the Himalayas (Himavā, J.vi.579), and also the name of the script (Kharosthi) and language of the region (modern Afghanistan/Pakistan). So by adding -vijjā ("charm") we can begin to piece together this explanation:

Gandhārī-vijjā is listed in G.P. Malalasekera's Buddhist Dictionary of Pali Proper Names: "A charm whereby one could become invisible and multiform [shapeshift], pass through all obstacles, through earth and water [USO, UFO, UAP], and touch the sun and moon (D.i.213) [suggesting advanced extraterrestrial technology].

"Elsewhere (J.iv.498) the charm is mentioned as being only useful for the purpose of making oneself invisible.

"The Theragāthā [Attestations of Enlightened Elders] Commentary (I.51f) distinguishes a Lesser and a Greater. [The Brahmin] Pilinda-vaccha knew the former and thought that the Buddha would teach him the latter. The charm enabled him to travel through the air [vimana, UFO, flying saucer, levitation?] and read the thoughts of others.
  • Sakka sends us to keep an eye on your progress.
[Devas from the "Realm of the Thirty-Three," or Tavatimsa, and the Realm of the Regents of the Four Directions are said to be able to do these things when they surveil earthlings and their progress in sila, samadhi, and insight into the Dhamma (morality, unification of mind, and penetration of the Buddha's Teachings). This would seem to be accomplished by hovering in a vimana every fortnight and reporting the results to Sakka King of the Devas (aka Śakra, Shakra, Indra) in the Hall of Truth (Sudhammā) in Tavatimsa Heaven. "Gandhari" in Wikipedia]
Buddhaghosa (DA ii.389) explains that the charm was so called either because it was invented by a sage named Gandhāra or because it originated in Gandhāra. More

Science says magic is real (Dr. Dean Radin)
(Guru Viking, Episode 68) Premiered Nov. 13, 2020. In this episode Guru Viking is once again joined by Dr. Daniel Ingram, MD, meditation teacher and author of Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha.

Ingram is best known for his controversial claim to arhatship (full enlightenment), one of the highest levels of enlightenment in Theravada Buddhism (just under nonteaching buddhahood and supreme teaching buddhahood).

Less well known is Ingram’s lifetime of practice in magic and the occult. In this interview he reveals his magical biography and comments on various systems including
  • Goetia,
  • Enochian,
  • Kabbalah,
  • Thelema,
  • Castaneda,
  • Buddhist Magic,
  • and more.
Ingram shares his encounters with demons [shapeshifting creatures of Buddhist cosmology], astral entities, mythical beings, and entering into magical combat with angry magicians who had cursed him.

Ingram also critiques the modern mindfulness movement for its suppression of information about the magical aspects (iddhis, Sanskrit siddhis) of its own tradition and gives advice on ethics and the accumulation of psychic powers. … guruviking.com/ep68-daniel...

Major Ed Dames on Remote Viewing (video)

Ed Dames (learnrv.com);Pat Macpherson, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

The mind has many powers.
The CIA and the U.S. Army developed a protocol with over $20 million of funding called Remote Viewing (RV). It enables the unconscious mind's inherent ability to obtain knowledge about any person, place, or thing in the past, present, or future.

What separates official Remote Viewing protocols from anyone else that teaches some other system is that virtually anyone can learn this with no previous experience or "abilities" required.

HOW DOES THE RV TRAINING WORK?
The Learn Remote Viewing DVD course was built entirely from the ground up to offer a user-friendly experience that provides easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions and interactive lessons to help practitioners proceed through each training stage.
After each lesson, a person will execute a blind practice target that incorporates what has just been learned, conducting each Remote Viewing practice session right along with classroom students on the DVDs.

After each session has ended, detailed feedback is immediately provided and the target is revealed. Comparing session results with the actual results of the classroom students makes learning more interactive.

The feedback segments show how accurately a person hit the target and where pitfalls may have been so that one quickly and continually becomes more accurate. This course was designed to allow one to go through each DVD at one's own pace. More

Miracles in Buddhism (sutra)

Dhr. Seven, Aloka (eds.), Ven. Thanissaro (orig. trans.), Kevatta (Kevaddha) Sutra (DN 11)

Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was staying at Nalanda in Pavarika's mango grove. Then Kevatta the householder approached the Blessed One, bowed, sat respectfully to one side, and said:

"Venerable sir, this Nalanda is powerful, both prosperous and populous, filled with people who have confidence in the Blessed One. It would be good if the Blessed One were to direct a monastic to display a miracle of psychic power from his superior human state so that Nalanda would to an even greater extent have confidence in the Blessed One."

When this was said the Blessed One said to Kevatta the householder, "Kevatta, I do not teach the monastics in this way: 'Come, monastics, display a miracle of psychic power to the lay people clad in white.'"

A second time...and a third time, Kevatta the householder said this to the Blessed One: "I will not argue with the Blessed One, but I tell you: venerable sir, this Nalanda is powerful, both prosperous and populous, filled with people who have confidence in the Blessed One. It would be good if the Blessed One were to direct a monastic to display a miracle of psychic power from his superior human state so that Nalanda would to an even greater extent have confidence in the Blessed One."

A third time the Blessed One rebuffed Kevatta the householder. "Kevatta, there are these three miracles that I have declared, having directly known and realized them for myself. What three?
  1. The miracle of psychic power
  2. the miracle of telepathy
  3. the miracle of instruction.
The Miracle of Psychic Power

"And what is the miracle of psychic power? There is one case where a monastic wields manifold psychic powers.
  • Having been one that person becomes many.
  • Having been many that person becomes one.
  • One reappears.
  • One vanishes.
  • One goes unimpeded through walls, buildings, and mountains as if through space.
  • One dives in and out of the earth as if it were water.
  • One walks on water without sinking as if it were dry land.
  • Sitting cross-legged one flies through the air like a winged bird.
  • With one's hand one touches and strokes even the sun and moon, so mighty and powerful.
  • One exercises influence with this body even as far as the Brahma worlds.
"Then someone who has confidence and conviction in this person sees this person wielding manifold psychic powers... exercising influence with this body even as far as the Brahma worlds. One reports this to someone who has no confidence and no conviction, telling that person, 'Is it not awesome? Is it not astounding how great the power, how great the skill of this wandering ascetic? Just now I saw this person wielding manifold psychic powers... exercising influence with this body even as far as the Brahma worlds.'

"Then the person without confidence, without conviction would say to the person with confidence and with conviction: 'There is a charm called the 'Gandhari charm' by which the monastic wielded manifold psychic powers... exercising influence with this body even as far as the Brahma worlds.' What do you think, Kevatta -- isn't that what the person without faith, without conviction would say to the person with confidence and with conviction?"

"Yes, venerable sir, that's just what that person would say."

"Seeing this drawback to the miracle of psychic power, Kevatta, I feel horrified, humiliated, and disgusted with the miracle of psychic power.

The Miracle of Telepathy
"And what is the miracle of telepathy? There is another case where a monastic reads the minds, the mental events, the thoughts, the ponderings of other beings, other individuals, [saying,] 'Such is your thinking, here is where your thinking is, thus is your mind.'

"Then someone who has confidence and conviction in that mind reader seeing this reading of minds... of other beings... One reports this to someone who has no confidence and no conviction, saying, 'Is it not awesome? Is it  not astounding, how great the power, how great the skill of this wandering ascetic? Just now I saw him reading the minds... of other beings...'

"Then the person without confidence, without conviction would say to the person with confidence and with conviction: 'There is a charm called the 'Manika charm' by which the monastic read the minds...of other beings...' What do you think, Kevatta -- isn't that what the person without confidence, without conviction would say to the person with confidence and with conviction?"

"Yes, venerable sir, that's just what that person would say."

"Seeing this drawback to the miracle of telepathy, Kevatta, I feel horrified, humiliated, and disgusted with the miracle of telepathy.

The Miracle of Instruction
"And what is the miracle of instruction? There is another case where a monastic gives instruction in this way: 'Direct your thought in this way, refrain from directing it in that. Attend to things in this way, refrain from attending to them in that. Let go of this, and enter and remain in that.' This, Kevatta, is called the miracle of instruction.

"Furthermore, there is the case where a tathagata ("welcome one") appears in the world, worthy and rightly self-awakened. He teaches the Dharma beautiful in its beginning, beautiful in its middle, beautiful in its end. He proclaims the spiritual life both in its particulars and its essence, entirely perfect, surpassingly pure.

"A householder or householder's offspring, hearing the Dharma, gains conviction in the Tathagata and reflects: 'Household life is confining, a dusty path. The life gone forth is like the open air. It is not easy living at home to practice the spiritual life totally perfect, totally pure, like a polished shell. What if I were to shave off my hair and beard, put on the saffron robes, and go forth from the household life into the left home life?'

"So after some time one abandons this mass of wealth, large or small, leaves one's circle of relatives, large or small, shaves off hair and beard, puts on saffron robes, and goes forth from the household life into the left home life.

"When one has thus gone forth, one lives restrained by the rules of the Monastic Code, seeing danger in even the slightest fault. Consummate in virtue, one guards the doors of the senses, is possessed of mindfulness and alertness, and is content. More

Ancient way to levitate (video)

What power of Vril, prana, sun chi or kyi can power things unseen and unknown to public science?

The Indian Emperor Ashoka, who became a Buddhist opposed to war, started a "Secret Society of the Nine Unknown Men" -- great Indian "scientists" who were supposed to catalogue the many sciences.

Emperor Ashoka kept their work secret because he was afraid that the advanced science catalogued by these men, culled from ancient Indian (Vedic) sources, would be used for the evil purpose of war, which Ashoka was strongly against, having become a Buddhist after defeating a large rival army in a very bloody battle.

The "Nine Unknown Men" wrote a total of nine books, presumably one each. Book number [?] was The Secrets of Gravitation! This book, known to historians but not actually seen by them, deals chiefly with "gravity control."

It is presumably still around somewhere, kept in a secret library in India, Tibet, or elsewhere (perhaps in North America). One can certainly understand Ashoka's reasoning for wanting to keep such knowledge a secret, assuming it exists.

Ashoka was also aware of devastating wars using such advanced flying vehicles and other "futuristic weapons" that had destroyed the ancient Indian "Rama Empire" [with cities that may have included the great Mohenjo-daro and Harappa] several thousand years earlier.
  • Rama or Ram (Sanskrit राम), also known as Ramachandra ["Rama the Shining One," suggesting he was deva rather than a human], is a major figure in Hinduism. He is [said to be] the seventh avatar of the god Vishnu, one of his most popular incarnations along with Gautama Buddha and Krishna. In Rama-centric traditions of Hinduism, he is considered the Supreme Being. Rama was born to Kaushalya and Dasharatha in Ayodhya, the ruler of the Kingdom of Kosala. His siblings included Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna. He married Sita.

Only a few years ago, the Chinese discovered some Sanskrit documents in Lhasa, Tibet [when they invaded Potala Palace, a kind of Tibetan "Vatican" for their Himalayan empire that extended from Mongolia to Bangladesh] and sent them to the University of Chandigarh to be translated.

Dr. Ruth Reyna of the university said recently that the documents contain directions for building interstellar spaceships!

Their method of propulsion, she said, was "anti-gravitational" and was based upon a system analogous to that of laghima, the unknown power of the ego existing in man's physiological makeup, "a centrifugal force strong enough to counteract all gravitational pull."

According to Hindu yogis, it is this laghima which enables a person to levitate. Dr. Reyna said that on board these machines, which were called astras by the text, the ancient Indians could have sent a detachment of people onto any planet, according to the document, which is thought to be thousands of years old.

The manuscripts were also said to reveal the secret of antima, "the cap of invisibility" and garima, "how to become as heavy as a mountain of lead." Naturally, Indian scientists did not take the texts very seriously but then became more positive about the value of them when the Chinese announced that they were including certain parts of the data for study in their space program!

This was one of the first instances of a government admitting to be researching anti-gravity. The manuscripts did not say definitely that interplanetary travel was ever made but did mention, of all things, a planned trip to the Moon, though it is not clear whether this trip was actually carried out.

However, one of the great Indian epics, the Ramayana, does have a highly detailed story in it of a trip to the moon in a vimana (or astra [as in astral travel, aster means "star"?]), and in fact details a battle on the moon with an Asvin (or Atlantean) airship. This is but a small bit of recent evidence of anti-gravity and aerospace technology used by Indians. To really understand the technology, we must go much further back in time. More
