Amitabha's birthday celebration (Nov. 24)

A buddha from another dimension?
Buddhist chanting and ceremony for Amitabha (Amida) Buddha's birthday. In the West everyone knows about the historical Buddha Siddhartha Gautama or Shakyamuni ("the Scythian Sage") who is most popular. His life story inspires us to meditate and cultivate for enlightenment.

In fact, there are many buddhas in the universe [one in each world-system]. And according to Mahayana Buddhism, Shakyamuni Buddha taught about Amitabha Buddha.

In the East many people learn to recite Amitabha Buddha's name for easy salvation in a practice popularly known as Pure Land Buddhism.

Master Hsuan Hua has said, "You should not disbelieve this because a long time ago Amitabha signed an agreement with us which said, 'After I realize buddhahood, you can recite my name and do so as well.' Since we signed our names, if we recite, we are sure to become buddhas."

Wei Mountain Temple, Rosemead, CA
On November 24 all are invited to celebrate Amitabha's birthday together followed by a Dharma talk by Master YongHua. Everyone can participate and ask questions to learn more about this strange form of Buddhism.

After the ceremony and Dharma talk, enjoy a Korean temple vegetarian food feast. This event is free and donation based. The temple would like to share what it has and celebrate this auspicious day with others.
