I'd like to become self-reliant.
A lot of people will be rushing around the shops to get things ready for Thanksgiving. But if you’re one of those folks who don’t care for crowds and would rather get to the great outdoors and learn about the natural world, then this is for you:

Nature walk into the Upper Arroyo, north of JPL, to explore the chaparral and riparian area plants to find the versatile yucca plant.

Meet at the intersection of Ventura and Windsor in Altadena, just above Pasadena's Rose Bowl off the 210 Freeway. Exit at Windsor, drive north on Windsor to Ventura, and park in the parking area on the west side of the street, overlooking the Arroyo Seco. We then drive north into JPL's east lot and walk from there. More
