It was a dream meeting of bodies in meditation. California has amazing beaches everyone's heard about or seen on TV. But it takes a local to find the best ones and guide us in mindful contemplation.
Masks aren't so bad in public but not at home.
The Strand was full of officials writing $100 first offense where's-your-mask tickets. A Black member of our group flaunted the warning, and they stepped to him quickly. He was so nice and soft-spoken that they gave him a chance to find a mask. When he couldn't they reached for their ticket books and pulled from a small collection of the paper variety blue mask.
Then we went swimming, talked, played music.
We went happily on our way to encircle the sand. The sun that roundly rolled in its summer tint of gold was high overhead in the vast sea above us, bold, a boat, according to that biblical claim that space is water, blue and bright. Half of us sat in the shade of the pier, the other half in full sun. Mindfulness meditation in the UCLA (MARC or Mind Awareness Research Center) style is coming into the present moment. And here we were.
