One man WALKS across the world

The planned route for The Goliath Expedition
Karl Bushby (born March 30, 1969), 55, is a walking adventurer, former British paratrooper, and author, currently attempting to be the first and only person in the history of the world to completely WALK an unbroken path around the world [which seems to be a circular flat earth]. Bushby's trek is known as The Goliath Expedition.

[Has he become a Buddhist with all this walking meditation?]
Group kinhin in Zen practice
Walking meditation
(Chinese 經行, Pinyin jīngxíng, Romaji kinhin or kyōgyō, Korean gyeonghyaeng, Vietnamese kinh hành) is a Buddhist meditative practice done while walking. It can be done as a standalone practice or as a break between long periods of static sitting meditation [1]. In different forms, the practice is common in various Buddhist traditions of both Theravada and in Mahayana Buddhism. The Zen term kinhin consists of the Chinese words 經, meaning "to go through (like the thread in a loom)," with "sutra" as a secondary meaning, and 行, meaning "walk." Taken literally, the phrase means "to walk straight back and forth." More
Early life of Bushby
Bushby was born in Hull, England. He attended a local comprehensive school and joined the British Army at the age of 16. Bushby served with the 3rd Battalion Parachute Regiment for 11 years.

Goliath Expedition
The Goliath Expedition is Bushby's attempt to walk around the world "with unbroken footsteps," from Punta Arenas, Chile, to his home in Hull, England.

He began his journey on November 1, 1998, and originally expected to finish the trek of 36,000-mile (58,000 km) in eight years; however, due to numerous delays, it is still in progress as of September 8, 2025 [1], having made it through the impossible Darién Gap, the barrier between South and North America. One month since Bikini (Atoll) Day

Just when the summer is getting started after a long, cold spring in Los Angeles, the LAUSD has started classes up again only a month after Independence Day! What gives? Now there's no more summer and no time for our summer school. It's time for Class 3 on The True Nature of Existence with American Theravada scholar-monk Bhikkhu Bodhi.

Who would wear floss and handkerchiefs?
Grab some sunscreen [or better yet, alkalinize the body so that it will not be susceptible to burning by acidic reaction to sunlight] — it’s National Bikini Day this July 5th. It’s the perfect opportunity to head to the beach. National Bikini Day celebrates the anniversary of the invention of the two-piece bathing suit. Owing to its risqué design, the bikini was slow to be adopted — but it gradually gained traction when film stars like Ava Gardner and Brigitte Bardot started to wear bikinis on public beaches and in their films. The garment was certainly one of the greatest inventions of all time and, due to the supposed "explosive" effect it had created, it was named after Bikini Atoll in the South Pacific where US warmongers and their suburban drones conducted nuclear testing in 1946. Get ready to celebrate this iconic summer look.

Ban the human body! What do you think this is, the Garden of Eden! God will smite you all!

The KROQ Pool Party, Morongo (7/31)

We don't need no sticking spa and resort. We'll just swim and party at home. Oh, noooo!
.
The poor enrich us so much, we built this.
Who would go from LA or the OC all the way to the Inland Empire near the site of the Coachella Festival just to lounge around a pool of a massive Indian casino? KROQ 106.7 FM fans, that's who and chronic gamblers trying to make reparations to the Native Americans of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians while angling to win back those reparations and then some by "games" of chance that are designed to favor the house and scrrw the "players" into "gaming." F around and find out. Gambling is a dopamine illness with severe financial consequences. Stay away from alcohol while courting Lady Luck (the Goddess Fortuna). And don't dream of going down there with Liquid Luck. That's our PSA for the day.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Plant-based hemp swimwear, (Natasha Tonic)
Guests gathered surrounded by greenery in the hills of Los Angeles near Mulholland Drive, ordering dinner plates for Chef Rawsheed's vegan creations. The DJs arrived to set up, but first Vanessa led us in a yoga class as most people looked on and socialized, eating fresh fruits spread all around and sipping cold drinks.

The shocking announcement was made after introductions by Paige for Samantha about the goals and aims of Plant Based TreatyJustine covered the Campaign for Banning the Retail Sale of Animals in L.A. The shock was that Vanessa is moving to the south of France to start a vegan commune (intentional community) around a chateau, where she will then run for mayor and create a vegan city. But she will travel between here and there and is still leading a tour to the ancient Mayan archeological sites in Mexico in 2025 (after a successful trip to Egypt). I do whatever I want: The Surfing Nomad

A wandering ascetic (śramaṇa, shramana, shaman) [a] is a person "who labors, toils, or exerts [him or herself] for some higher or religious purpose" [1, 2], a "seeker, or ascetic, one who performs acts of austerity" (tapas) [3, 4, 5, 6].

The śramaṇa tradition includes primarily [the contemporary proto-Indian schools of] Jainism [7], Buddhism [8], and others such as the Ājīvika [9, 10].

The śramaṇa [Dharmic] religions became popular in the circles of wandering mendicant, contemplative, truth seekers after a direct (unmediated by priests) experience of the divine or of the ultimate truth of reality from greater Magadha (where the Buddha chose to live) that led to the development of spiritual practices [11] as well as the popular concepts in all major Indian religions such as saṃsāra (the Cycle of Rebirth and Death) and moksha (liberation from that cycle) [12, Note 1].

The Śramaṇic traditions have a diverse range of doctrines (beliefs) and practices, ranging from accepting or denying the concept of an eternal soul, fatalism to free will, idealization of extreme asceticism to that of family life, renunciation, strict ahimsa (non-violence, harmlessness, kind caring), and veganism/vegetarianism to permissibility of violence and flesh-eating [13, 14].

The Pali (the exclusively Buddhist language) word samaṇa has been suggested as the ultimate origin of the word Evenki сама̄н (samān) "shaman," possibly via Middle Chinese or Tocharian B; however, the etymology of this word, which is also found in other Tungusic languages, is controversial (see Shamanism § Etymology). More

How to breathe and live underwater (video)

The answer, in brief, is join this tribe and do what they do. Become a master diver by epigenetics -- kickstarting our natural human capacity that mostly goes unprompted and dormant.

7 days with the tribe that BREATHES underwater (Bajau Sea Nomads)
(Joe HaTTab) The BAJAU (Sama-Bajau): Sea Nomads of Southeast Asia. 🌊 Meet the Bajau — the “Sea Gypsies” who have lived in and on the ocean for centuries. With a population of about 100,000 people across Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, they are legendary free divers (70 meter + depths with no oxygen tanks). Let's visit their stilt villages in Tawi-Tawi, Philippines, and North Sulawesi, Indonesia, to uncover their survival secrets — and find out why their ancient way of life is vanishing.

Mermaids were once real?

Young men, beware of selkies, beautiful but vicious
Mermaid princess Suvannamaccha (Thai สุพรรณมัจฉา, RTGS Suphannamatcha or Suphan Matcha, Khmer សុវណ្ណមច្ឆា, ALA-LC Suvaṇṇmacchā, Pali सुवण्णमच्छा, suvaṇṇamacchā, literally "golden fish") is a daughter of Ravana (Thotsakan), appearing in the Thai and other Southeast Asian versions of the Ramanaya [1].

Suvannamaccha tries to spoil Hanuman's plans to build a bridge to (Sri) Lanka but falls in love with him instead [2].
  • The figure of Suvannamaccha is popular in Thai folklore and is represented on small cloth streamers or framed pictures that are hung as luck-bringing charms in shops and houses throughout predominantly Theravada Buddhist Thailand.
Story
A mermaid charm in Thailand
[The Hindu monkey-headed god] Hanuman, while building a causeway [that has really been found to exist], discovered that he was hampered by mermaids underwater.
  • Hanging wall mount: Suvannamaccha luck bringing charm (amulet) in a riverside shop in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
When the divine Mother Goddess Sita is kidnapped, her husband [ET] Lord Rama enlists Hanuman's help in rescuing her. Hanuman learns that Goddess Sita is being held captive on the island of (Sri) Lanka.

Hanuman informs Lord Rama, her husband, who orders him to build a causeway to Lanka from Proto-India Jambudvipa so that Rama's army can attack.

Chris Columbus reported seeing mermaids.
Hanuman collects his band of Vanaras and they begin placing huge boulders in the sea [between the tip of the subcontinent and the teardrop shaped island to the south] to make a foundation for the causeway.

After a few days, they notice something is wrong and call Hanuman to report that matter to him. They tell him that each day they throw rocks into the sea and the next day they are gone. Hanuman asks for volunteers to join him while he instructs the others to continue throwing rocks into the sea.

When several volunteers step forward, Hanuman leads them into the waves. They find a large number of mermaids living underwater. As they watch, a new rock is tossed in. The mermaids underwater take the rocks and carry them away.

Golden Fish, you're real! Every Thai knew it!
Hanuman looks around for their leader. He spots a lovely mermaid supervising the others. He swims towards her, but she skillfully evades him. Time and again he begins an attack, but it comes to nothing. Hanuman soon finds he is falling in love with the aquatic creature.

He changes his tactics and begins to silently woo her. She responds to him, and soon they are together at the bottom of the sea.
  • When Maha Moggallana, the Buddhist monk the Buddha declared "foremost in psychic powers," looked into the sea, he saw a delightful world of mermaids (sea nymphs) dancing and existing by what sounds like advanced technological means:
  • "In the middle of the ocean/ There are mansions aeon-lasting,/ Sapphire-shining, fiery-gleaming/ With a clear translucent luster,/ Where iridescent sea-nymphs dance/ In complex, intricate rhythms" (MN 50.25, trans. by Ven. Nanamoli and Bhikkhu Bodhi).
  • "Mansions stand for an eon in the middle of the sea,/ The hue of beryl-stones, brilliant, glowing, radiant;/ There dance full many nymphs in divers hues" (Isaline Blew Horner, born 1896, trans. of MN 50).
  • "There are mansions that last an eon standing in the middle of a lake./ Sapphire-colored, brilliant, they sparkle and shine./ Dancing there are nymphs shining in all different colors." (Bhante Sujato, trans. of MN 50). More: Are mermaids manatees?
  • PHOTOS: We are MERMAIDS!
Later, Hanuman asks the mermaid why she is stealing the rocks. She tells him that she is Suvannamaccha, a daughter of Ravana (the "demon" who had abducted Sita).

When Ravana saw Hanuman's Vanaras building a causeway, he instructed Suvannamaccha to stop it. Hanuman tells the mermaid why he is building the causeway.

He tells her of the abduction of Sita, the battle between Rama and her father Ravana, and why they started to build a bridge to reach Lanka. More

Too cold, Wim Hof? Eli from Russia

The mysterious sounds of Lake Baikal talking - Climbing ice mountain the American way

BRUTAL COLD resistance race in Russia
(Eli from Russia) March 8, 2025: YAROSLAVL OBLAST. "ICEMAN RUSSIA" is a cold resistance competition that includes weightlifting, running, and swimming in ice water. In Russia, a cold-resistant person is called a "walrus." These people rub snow on their bodies, dive in ice holes, swim short or long distances in icy water. This is why they’re compared to animals that are well adapted to cold weather and accustomed to swimming in freezing water. Swimming in ice water is considered the mastery of cold resistance, so I decided to try it!

HIKE: Crystal Lake, waterfall meditation (7/16)

Dr. Ashwin Kumar; Ananda (DBM), Dhr. Seven, Jen Bradford (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
C'mon, it's summer. Let's go outside into Nature and meditate under the waterfalls.

Crystal Lake is a hidden alpine lake above L.A.
The yogis and yoginis of the College of Yoga and Ayurveda are taking a hike. Destination: Crystal Lake Recreation Area, Azusa, Los Angeles County, for a waterfall meditation. Free.

We'll scale Mt. Islip and enjoy a relaxing waterfall meditation. Then it's brunch at Crystal Lake Cafe to socialize.

Greet Mother Nature. Socialize, make friends, take photos, do yoga stretches, swim, meditate under a waterfall, do yogic breathing led by. Dr. Ashwin Kumar:

Due to popular demand, we will once again hike the Islip Ridge Trail from tranquil (and now replenished) Crystal Lake, near the Highway to Nowhere above Los Angeles, to Mt. Islip then return via Windy Gap Trail (loop hike).
  • Wow, is this still Los Angeles County?
Sunday morning, July 16, 2023 FREE
  • Start hike at 6:00 am (at trailhead)
  • Meet in Glendale at 5:00 am (carpool)
Mt. Islip is tucked into the Angeles National Forest away from the L.A. crowds. The hike follows well-marked trails, offers spectacular views, and summits the 8,250-foot Mount Islip, with views of Catalina Island in the Pacific to the Mojave Desert behind our local mountain range.

The descent is a gradual downhill hike, cruising back to the sparkling waters of Crystal Lake (which looks like a volcanic opening akin to Oregon's magical Crater Lake.

Two hiking levels (two groups)

Where are those slowpokes?
Depending on how many persons and abilities show up, we will have two groups. Everyone will be included, and no one will be left alone.

The first group are the fast hikers/runners, the second are the normal hikers/normal pace people. Choose whichever is most suitable. We will have walkie-talkies to stay in touch.

Companion animals: We love pets, so feel free bring them along. Obviously, human owners determine what is appropriate for them. (Bring a leash in case it is required or needed and all their essentials, like water and bowl).

Waterplay and brunch
Wonder if anyone would mind if I skinny dipped
After the hike, we will play in the waterfall and stream and meditate lakeside. Bring water play items, like a bathing suit. Then it's brunch and conversation.

All are welcome to join just brunch if that's the hiking level for the day. That starts at approximately 11:00 am at: Crystal Lake Cafe, 9877 North Crystal Lake Rd., Azusa, CA 91702. This is a good option for beginners who just want to play by the water, lounge around, and eat.

Waterfalls along the San Gabriel River

There are a couple of accessible waterfalls and the river itself, time permitting. We will visit them.

NOTE: This is not a beginner's hike. However, all are welcome to hike as much as they want and return to the lake area for lounging. Or remain near the Crystal Lake picnic grounds to enjoy a few hours of peace and quiet until the hike returns and we have brunch.

Distance and elevation gain: It's loop hike, totaling 10.5 miles with a 2,600-foot elevation gain.

Meeting location and parking: Islip Wawona Trailhead/Crystal Lake Trailhead at: 34.31909, -117.84454. Use these coordinates for exact meeting location.

Start time: 6:00 am (expected completion time by 11:00 am)

Carpooling, driving
Can I get a ride? - Yes, sure, Kait!
CARPOOL or CARAVAN begins at 5:00 am in Glendale at (free carpool). Meet at the Ashwin College and Clinic of Ayurveda Yoga and Vedic Sciences, 111 S. Kenwood St., Glendale CA 91205.

Note there is poor cellphone reception up the mountain by the lake. So please text or call before 5:15 am on Sunday to reach anyone, like Dr. Ashwin: (323) 702-1211.

Bring hiking shoes, not other types. Pack a minimum of 4 liters of water, a snack, sun protection, and electrolytes.

Please read these safety details completely. Any questions? Just call or text (323) 702-1211.

Blessings and Namaste 🙏
  • This is a hike with "awareness," which is to say we hike as we enjoy being with Mother Nature. We pause halfway through the hike to meditate and enjoy a healthy brunch afterward at a local cafe.
  • Start time and being late: We start on time. If anyone is running late, please text or call us by before the start time. We can wait 5 or 10 minutes (max) out of respect for everyone's time.
  • For the hike bring: HIKING shoes/boots (not tennis shoes or running shoes, etc.), hiking pants, long sleeve shirt (personal preference) or shorts and a tee of dry type of fabrics, allergy medications, enough water (about 4 liters), a snack, sunscreen protection, hat, bug spray if sensitive, an electrolyte mix or drink, sunglasses, and so on.
Any questions, call or text (323) 702-1211.

Beware of monsters (lions, bears, rattlers)
