Mermaid princess Suvannamaccha (Thai สุพรรณมัจฉา, RTGS Suphannamatcha or Suphan Matcha, Khmer សុវណ្ណមច្ឆា, ALA-LC Suvaṇṇmacchā, Pali सुवण्णमच्छा, suvaṇṇamacchā, literally "golden fish") is a daughter of Ravana (Thotsakan), appearing in the Thai and other Southeast Asian versions of the Ramanaya [1].
Suvannamaccha tries to spoil Hanuman's plans to build a bridge to (Sri) Lanka but falls in love with him instead [2].
The figure of Suvannamaccha is popular in Thai folklore and is represented on small cloth streamers or framed pictures that are hung as luck-bringing charms in shops and houses throughout predominantly Theravada Buddhist Thailand.
Story
A mermaid charm in Thailand
[The Hindu monkey-headed god] Hanuman, while building a causeway [that has really been found to exist], discovered that he was hampered by mermaids underwater.

When the divine Mother GoddessSita is kidnapped, her husband [ET] Lord Rama enlists Hanuman's help in rescuing her. Hanuman learns that Goddess Sita is being held captive on the island of (Sri) Lanka.
Hanuman informs Lord Rama, her husband, who orders him to build a causeway to Lanka from Proto-IndiaJambudvipa so that Rama's army can attack.
Chris Columbus reported seeing mermaids.
Hanuman collects his band of Vanaras and they begin placing huge boulders in the sea [between the tip of the subcontinent and the teardrop shaped island to the south] to make a foundation for the causeway.
After a few days, they notice something is wrong and call Hanuman to report that matter to him. They tell him that each day they throw rocks into the sea and the next day they are gone. Hanuman asks for volunteers to join him while he instructs the others to continue throwing rocks into the sea.
When several volunteers step forward, Hanuman leads them into the waves. They find a large number of mermaids living underwater. As they watch, a new rock is tossed in. The mermaids underwater take the rocks and carry them away.

Hanuman looks around for their leader. He spots a lovely mermaid supervising the others. He swims towards her, but she skillfully evades him. Time and again he begins an attack, but it comes to nothing. Hanuman soon finds he is falling in love with the aquatic creature.
He changes his tactics and begins to silently woo her. She responds to him, and soon they are together at the bottom of the sea.
When Maha Moggallana, the Buddhist monk the Buddha declared "foremost in psychic powers," looked into the sea, he saw a delightful world of mermaids (sea nymphs) dancing and existing by what sounds like advanced technological means:
"Mansions stand for an eon in the middle of the sea,/ The hue of beryl-stones, brilliant, glowing, radiant;/ There dance full many nymphs in divers hues" (Isaline Blew Horner, born 1896, trans. of MN 50).
"There are mansions that last an eon standing in the middle of a lake./ Sapphire-colored, brilliant, they sparkle and shine./ Dancing there are nymphs shining in all different colors." (Bhante Sujato, trans. of MN 50). More: Are mermaids manatees?
Later, Hanuman asks the mermaid why she is stealing the rocks. She tells him that she is Suvannamaccha, a daughter of Ravana (the "demon" who had abducted Sita).
When Ravana saw Hanuman's Vanaras building a causeway, he instructed Suvannamaccha to stop it. Hanuman tells the mermaid why he is building the causeway.
He tells her of the abduction of Sita, the battle between Rama and her father Ravana, and why they started to build a bridge to reach Lanka. More

Women's March takes to the streets of downtown Los Angeles

Pearl believes she's helping women by being honest as she sees it, even if women hate it. She has become a rallying point for women against Pearl and her outrageous pro-male views in a patriarchal society. So if SHE believes, is that "valid"? If someone thinks s/he's helping, is that enough? Is that the standard? Men males are allies, whether all women are or not, whether females think so or not.

The difference
I get it! All that arises impersonally passes away.
"But in the case of a well-taught noble disciple, O meditators, when touched by a painful feeling, s/he will not worry nor grieve and lament. One will not beat his/her breast nor weep nor be distraught.
"One experiences one kind of feeling, a bodily one, but not a mental feeling.
"It is as if a person were pierced by a dart but were not hit by a second dart following after the first one.
"So this person experiences feelings caused only by a single dart. In just this way, a well-taught noble disciple when touched by a painful feeling will neither worry nor grieve, will not lament nor beat one's breast, not weep nor be distraught. One experiences a single feeling, a bodily one.
"Having been touched by that painful feeling, one does not resist (nor resent) it. Hence, in such a person no underlying tendency of resistance (dosa) against that painful feeling comes to underlie (one's mind/heart).
The result
Then there was no more pain at all.
"Under the impact of that painful feeling, one does not seek to enjoy sensual happiness [to escape or compensate for it]. Why not?
"As a well-taught noble disciple, one knows of an actual ESCAPE from painful feelings other than by [the futile and disappointing distraction and diversion of] enjoying sensual pleasure/happiness.
"Then in one who does not seek to enjoy sensual pleasure/happiness, no underlying tendency to lust (lobha) for pleasant feelings comes to underlie (one's mind/heart).
"One knows, according to how it actually is,
the arising and ending of those feelings, and
the gratification,
the danger, and
the escape connected with these feelings.
Ha, ya laugh at me, but ya notice, and I gets $$$

We are Americans. We have the right to "life, liberty, and the PURSUIT of happiness." Never was our arrival at happiness promised. We have no "right" to be happy. That was never promised! We just thought it was. The founding document says, we have the right to endlessly pursue it, sucker.
We can have sex, have a spouse, even have kids, or stay single and chase wine, women, and song. There's a very funny Benny Hill quip that's hard to forget.
The Benny Hill Show is filth, funny, but filth.
A guy is in a bar boozing it up when an older man looks at him with disgust and says, "Wine, women, and song -- that's what killed your father!"
And the guy boozing it up quips, "Yeah, he couldn't get any, so he shot himself." Everyone laughs. Why? We imagine we would kill ourselves from all the pain, misery, and tedious drudgery of human life [at least in the West, where we have so much material surplus compared to everyone else on the planet] IF we couldn't enjoy our Hedonism and sensual pursuits, which we think make it all worthwhile or at least sufferable. Alcohol alone makes the medicine go down, and does anyone but the alcoholic realize how much harm is being done in the tradeoff? We can endure as long as we imagine there's more coming down the line, here or hereafter, by winning the lottery or getting into heaven. Maybe I should get a face tattoo, or a sexy one.
