Lost in Joshua Tree Nat'l Park: Missing 411?

JOSHUA TREE, California - Authorities are searching Joshua Tree National Park for a 20-year-old San Diego County man who began a hike more than a week ago.

The National Park Service says the search for Joe Espinosa began Sunday when staff became aware he might be in the park.

Joseph John Alvarez Espinosa of Oceanside has been reported missing in Joshua Tree National Park (San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department).

A family member dropped Espinosa off for a hike on May 16, and he was last seen approximately 30 miles east of Twentynine Palms on State Route 62 as he walked south into the desert. 

He was wearing cargo pants and a shirt with the biblical citation “Matthew 4:4”* on the back of it. Espinosa was carrying a canteen. He is described as a Hispanic male adult, standing at 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 300 pounds.

He has brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information on Espinosa's whereabouts is asked to call the Morongo Basin Sheriff's Office at (760) 366-4175. More
