(CBS Los Angeles) Art Laboe, who was Armenian not Mexican as often thought, was a pioneering radio DJ. He died at 97 on Oct. 10, 2022. Art Laboe -- a favorite of Mexicans (Chicanos), Blacks, and older whites still living in the 1950s -- was the local Los Angeles DJ (Los Angeles' own "Wolfman Jack") credited with helping end segregation in Southern California, as well as being one of the first in the area to play rhythm and blues and rock-n-roll, died at 97.

(KTLA 5) On Oct. 10, 2022, Art Laboe, the pioneering radio DJ who read heartfelt song dedications to generations of loyal listeners and was credited with helping end racial segregation in Southern California during an eight-decade broadcast career, has died. He was 97.
