It's massive radio station concert season in Los Angeles
Last time to party before new mask mandate
KROQ (\kay-rock\) is the dinosaur "alt" rock station in this town. It's bringing back Acoustic X-mas for another year of all amplified rock.
  • Imagine Dragons
  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs
  • Wet Leg
  • Jimmy Eat World
  • The Interrupters
  • Death Cab for Cutie
  • Yungblud
  • The Black Keys
  • Maneskin
  • Social Distortion
(No one actually plays acoustic). And not to be outdone, closeted Ryan Seacrest (who claims the No. 1 morning show in LA by doing "Ryan's Roses"), KISS (102.7 FM) has its own super pop Xmas show called Jingle Ball with Dua Lipa et al. KYSR FM (Alt 98.7), the more alternative rock station, is promoting Alter Ego (Jan. 2023), though it's Xmas show is actually "Come Out And Play" with The Offspring in a small Hollywood club, over 21 only.

Our favorite station, Pacifica (KPFK, 90.7 FM), the sourcen of Buddhist Radio (Something's Happening with Roy of Hollywood on Thursday nights and Sunday mornings), is always Santa Monica's KCRW (89.9 FM). The dinosaur sucking up all the air in the room and putting out all the "white noise" is Pasadena's KPCC (89.3 FM).

And dinosaur-rock (a.k.a. classic rock) station KLOS (95.5 FM) doesn't want to be left out of the fun, so it's all about promoting the upcoming Pantera reformation with openers Metallica (doing two nights with completely differently set lists and no repeats). KLOS is cool because it has Full Metal Jackie on Mondays and Tuesdays at midnight (or, who knows, because they move her around) playing actual death, speed, and hardcore metal the commercial station doesn't dare let cut into its playing of "Sweet Home Alabama" and other "classics" that test well on phone surveys or score well in focus groups for their target demographic, which is old white males who would rather be listening to Iron Maiden than most of the stuff the station actually plays, though give them some credit since they will occasionally add a cool song to the playlist if cackling Heidi & Frank the foolhardy macho man discover one from their weekly "Stay or Go" contests.

The Linda Lindas

The Adventures of Hello Kitty & Friends
If Wisdom Quarterly had mascots, it would probably be Hello Kitty and Badtz-Maru because they're cute. Or it might be LA's The Linda Lindas because they kick @$$ playing punk rock on Kimmel.

The Los Angeles-based punk band took the stage to perform their new holiday single "Groovy Xmas," which arrived last month. The single follows The Linda Lindas' debut album, Growing Up, which was released earlier this year via Epitaph Records. The Linda Lindas were inspired by some of their favorite punk bands to create their own version of an alternative Xmas carol.

"There are so many cool Christmas songs that we love to dance to, and a lot of them are by our favorite punk bands: Alice Bag, Red Kross, Shonen Knife..." The Linda Lindas said in a press release.

"We were inspired by them to write our own carol that you can add to your jolly playlist and enjoy at holiday gatherings! Please sing along and share: and we hope you have a very Groovy Xmas and an awesome new year!"

Check out The Linda Lindas' performance of "Groovy Xmas." Fans can catch The Linda Lindas live one last time this year at the Fonda in Los Angeles on Dec. 15. They're also headed on tour with Paramore next year. The run kicks off on July 6 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.

What in the world is KROQ's "Acoustic X-mas"?
